  • Boombox happiness
Color: WHITE
Was a gift for my granddaughter. She absolutely loves it. Says she’s been playing it since it arrived. She just turned 16yo so to keep a young woman happy is a huge compliment!

  • Good but not what the ad claims. There is no bass boost.

This player works well but it does NOT have bass boost as the ad claims. They are lying.

  • Do Not Purchase, You'll Be Very Disappointed
Color: WHITE
Do Not Purchase, You'll Be Very Disappointed. It just arrived and I was very disappointed when I plugged it in to test. 1st, it sounds like a transistor radio, which will explain its transistor radio price. 2nd, it does not have any dynamic bass boost as described in the description, it does have a preset equalizer, but no matter what mode you set it at, it still sounds like a cheap transistor radio. 3rd, it definitely does not have enhanced stereo sound as described in the description in image #3. I recommend adding a little money to the cost of this one and purchase a better quality and brand portable stereo. ... show more

  • Smaller. More than you may realize. Smaller. More than you may realize.
Color: WHITE
Photo provided for scale. Those are 1 gallon water bottles. The top image is stretched vertically a bit. It isn't as big as the product photo makes it out to be. Also, gone are the days of Funai Electronics, this is a Vistar Electric CD Player with the Philips logo blurry like the GPX and RCA cheapies of our past. What to expect: this is flatter. Not even a foot wide. Maybe six inches high. Speaker circumference is maybe 2.5" across, so its punchier than a clock radio for sure. Or exactly as much. Depends on the clock radio you use. The other reviews stating the EQ settings are non-existent are fair. Bass isn't present on this any more than discount PC speakers. This isn't a "boombox" in the traditional sense with separated subwoofer/"mids and lows" cone in the center, with a smaller tweeter next to it. It's a portable CD Player. And it sounds exactly as you would hope. It plays discs. Skip protection is present, but after three light slaps, the audio stops and track number disappears until it catches the track and resumes a split second later. (Washboard road? You're not going to use this much in a car.) Loudness-wise, I can't turn the dial past 20/30 on most CDs without distortion. And 30 itself isn't very loud. In a Garage, this is kind of disappointing. I imagine in a kitchen with loud family, it might be kinda perfect. Loud enough for solo dishwashing, but not so loud that a holiday ruckus is competing with it. Build quality, I had a Philips Soundmachine Boombox in the 1990s. This is a weaker offspring. The handle has decided flex in it. The bright blue LED is so bright, you can see THROUGH the front panel buttons. Enough to see the inner supports of the knob. (2nd pic., not docking a star, there's a black plastic version with a RED LED that is more conducive to slumber playback, knew it was blue going in to the purchase.) This one is is a touch underwhelming compared to my 1990's boombox (died; laser diode stopped altogether). Playback, every five seconds, the time of the current track is shown, then is replaced with the track number. No mode or display button to stop swapping these back and forth. Screen is big enough for four digits and a small row of icons. But, yeah, small CD Player. Even a 2010s Philips boombox, when everything had an iPod dock connector in it, this is smaller than even those. (Same shape, too.) LED window appears to have a window for an IR Sensor, but it appears empty (again, bright and BLUE) so don't expect any remote controls to work. All in all, I paid retail and feel a bit duped. It's on sale at the time I'm writing this and for all the quirks and "meh" that seems to be a more fair price. I'm not even all that snobbish about my sound equipment, the best TV sound bar in my house is a 1-foot long, sub-$100 no-name brand from a competitor and I will dust and baby that little thing for as long as I can. (A blue retailer who likes yellow iconography.) It sounds great for what I paid for it. They don't sell it anymore. Nobody does. For a kid or teen introduced to CDs this could be good, even great. But too young and I can almost hear, "uh oh." I honestly feel a box heavier than 20 lbs falling on this will destroy it, nevermind a passenger in my back seat. Conclusion: it plays CDs, it navigates them. But spend accordingly. Don't expect better outcomes are tied to spending more, unless your budget is a bit more. (Didn't bother checking USB Playback. Navigating 100s or even 1,000s of MP3 files on a 64GB thumbdrive with track forward/back only and no apparent shuffle button is not my idea of fun. There's cheaper MP3-only players that do a better job than that.) ... show more

  • It worked at first?
Color: WHITE
I didn’t get this thinking it would be the greatest. I already have a nicer boombox. But I expected more from a Philips? Or have I finally come to the point in my life when I can’t trust a normally trustworthy brand? This little thing stays plugged in in my bedroom most of the time, and I only occasionally use it with zero issues. Let me also say I’ve only had it since March 2026. However, today we had a power outage so I grabbed le boombox and put some batteries in it; Duracell thank you very much. It made it most of the way through ONE CD and then started buzzing (for lack of a better word). High pitched, buzzing, whining? And little pops from the speakers. I stopped the CD immediately, was met with more buzzing, turned the power off, then switched to a brand new CD to experiment. Same issue as before. Needless to say, everyone in the vicinity is irritated, because what the heck is that noise? Anyway. I’m not sure if I just got a defective one, or it’s the connections somewhere inside the unit. I don’t manufacture radios and sell them to people, I just know it shouldn’t make this noise. Buyer beware. ... show more
