  • It's a speaker.
Installation worked well and setup on a roku TCL TV was very easy. It leaves plenty to be desired from a volume perspective. It also moves painfully slow with the TCL remote volume control. I wouldn't buy again but I'm also not out too much money either.

  • Satisfactory at this price point, and a serious temptation to upsize from 140W to 600W
You definitely want a soundbar with a separate sub. The main question you should want to answer in this review is whether this sub is good enough mated to the quality of the soundbar itself. Note: Tested with a HiSense TV, HDMI (ARC) in a fairly small bedroom in a wood frame house. I have not tested this with a Roku device. PRO -Soundbar connects via HDMI ARC (volume should work w/ current remotes) -If you don't want to mount under the TV (e.g., my TV is smaller than the bar), you can wall mount it -Wireless is a simplification, though it does add some minor setup complexity -Multiple connectivity options: optical, bluetooth, 3.5mm -Quality is good, though a bit on the tinny side (more high mids than mids to my ear) -The sub is adequate, though if it was too far away in the test room, it didn't provide the necessary bottom end experience unless you were in that part of the room. CON -BYO HDMI cable for ARC -Not Alexa or Google Assistant-ready (but you can get it through Firestick or Google Adapter) -The subwoofer doesn't put out as much bass as you might expect from its size, but it's satisfactory for most people, especially if mounted on a resonant surface like a wood floor -It's not 5.1 NOTE -I was sufficiently curious about the Philips Model B8905, which puts out 600W (the reviewed unit only puts out 140W, probably not RMS). that I ordered at the same time as this review was compoleted. -If your TV does Bluetooth, you might be able to work with that option, which isn't covered in the Philips instructions. -You can use this device as a regular stereo, though of course you have limited options for stereo separation, which could matter, especially in large rooms. -Note the room condition commentary in this review if 150.00 is at a pain point for you. REALITY CHECK I own pro audio gear that gear can crank out MUCH louder audio, especially on the bottom end, but in most settings, you won't be permitted to run it up "to ten" anyway without law enforcement or divorce attorneys getting involved. ... show more

  • It Works
Hooking this speaker up was relatively easy. I do have an HDMI (ARC) connection on the TV, but it is in use, so I couldn't try that out. I used the optical connection, and it works just fine. This also can be connected using a 3.5 mm plug, but I figured the optical cable would provide better sound. None of the connecting cables are included with the soundbar. The bass speaker connects to the soundbar via bluetooth, and that self-connected flawlessly by pushing the button an the bass speaker and turning the soundbar on. The sound isn't great, but it isn't terrible either. I turned the volume all the way up, and there was very little distortion. It filled our living room with sound, but it won't blow you out of the room. Midrange was good, but the sound seemed a bit weak on the high and low ends. The remote works great to turn the unit on, adjust volume, and change the signal source, but that's about it. ... show more

  • Horrible
It would not connect to my Roku TV tried different cables. Returning product was a pain because of the size and it didn’t come in a box. And tried calling Phillips and they were not helpful at all.

  • This was a return and not working it item
What I received was obviously a returned item. The box was torn open and re-taped. The cables and batteries were loose and the manual was badly refolded. I connected it to my Roku TV anyway, hoping it would still work. I was wrong. The ARC worked via the HDMI, but the sound was very low. I needed to turn it up to 75% to simply hear it at all. ... show more
