  • Sound is very good… setup?
Style: Fidelio | 7.1.2 Channel w/ Integrated Sub
The sound is impressive for an all-in-one sound bar. I have a small to medium size room and this unit delivers sufficient bass for my taste. The sound stage is wider than the bar. There is also surprising detail to the instruments when listening to music through this sound bar. The apps allow for finer tuning and EQ. The Atmos drivers work, but not to the point that you’ll be looking above you, so do not expect the immersion that a dedicated system with ceiling mounted speakers. I read a review prior to buying that this was an “audiophile” type of sound bar and I agree. Having said that, it isn’t the same level as a dedicated 2 channel stereo with decent components. By comparison, I have a Marantz integrated amp and Wharfedale EVO speakers and this bar does not touch that, but it is still quite good! Now the downside. It is almost a nightmare to get a Fire Stick 4K Max and this sound bar to play together! After many many attempts, I have it acceptable and am willing to hope that updates down the road will make this better. However, this bar and a Gen 2 Apple TV had zero problems. The included instructions are very poor… go online for the better owners manual! The apps were somewhat difficult to learn and use in the beginning, but getting easier. If you want an all-in-one sound bar, that you can add to later (there are rears FS1 and a sub FW1), and can live with the possibility that setup might be sketchy (for some) then this is a good choice. It does sound really nice ... show more

  • Great if you can get it to connect
Style: Fidelio | Add-on Wireless Subwoofer
I have both the soundbar and subwoofer. The soundbar is great and works fine. The subwoofer is a nightmare to pair to with the soundbar. It'll connect, but once that connection is broken its a nightmare to connect again.

  • Pay attention to the shipping
Style: Fidelio | 7.1.2 Channel w/ Integrated Sub
Did damage in shipping wipe out the Play-Fi and ancillary speaker electronics? Sound is greatest but no connection through Play-Fi. Tech support matches the cruddy packaging

  • Quality sound, easy setup
Style: 8000 Series | 3.1.2 Channel w/ Wireless Sub
I'm fairly pleased with this setup, I mounted the sound bar on top of the TV and have the sub across the room. I had to watch an action movie to test the sub, and explosions sound awesome. As far as setup it was really easy, the TV that I put it on is also a Philips so that probably help a little. I would definitely recommend this as a mid-range option for sound bars, you can spend more money and get more speakers and sound quality, but you can also find just sound bars without the sub... For our basement, this is just right 👍 ... show more

  • My second Play-Fi speaker
Style: 8000 Series | 3.1.2 Channel w/ Wireless Sub
I love how the Play-Fi system works. It is like Sonos. The speakers all put the same sound out at the same time. The sound is natural and clear. Bluetooth from my computer is great and sounds as good as my wired connection. The firmware update process failed multiple times for me. The Phillips website had no download link. I tried a few different devices and the firmware update that was required for Play-Fi kept failing. It eventually worked from my ipad. Still more features I wanna play with. Didn't know a sound bar could have so much to offer. ... show more

  • Some great sound with this soundbar!
Style: 8000 Series | 3.1.2 Channel w/ Wireless Sub
This is a great soundbar for my living room TV. Setup was easy and quick. First off hook up the soundbar itself to power and then the subwoofer. Hit the pair button on the back of the subwoofer until it flashes then pairing should be automatic. as for the TV hookup I simply used the HDMI/eARC ports on the TV and soundbar and enabled the setting in my TV and had sound right off the bat. Next was to setup the Phillips Sound app from the android APP store and had music streaming from my phone to the soundbar in seconds. The sound quality is quite nice as are the presets for the EQ. The subwoofer has some great bass and the sound is incredible watching a movie! ... show more

  • There’s a reason you don’t think of Philips when buying audio equipment
Style: 8000 Series | 3.1.2 Channel w/ Wireless Sub
Philips isn’t known for being a leader in the audio space, and sadly, this doesn’t change that fact. Reading about this sound bar had me having high hopes for it, but unfortunately, my initial suspicions were correct. I’ll start with the good. The sound bar and subwoofer are visually attractive. They look nice with a nice finish. The sound bar buttons are capacitive buttons, meaning the don’t move at all, they just respond when you put your finger on it. The “screen” is behind the front mesh so when it’s not active, you can’t see it. The sound from the sound bar is pretty good. Mids and highs are decently reproduced and quite clear. Voices in movies or music is easily heard and clear. The volume gets pretty loud too, so shouldn’t have a problem hearing it. Sadly, this is where the goods end. Here’s my take on the bads: I’ll start with the usability and functionality. The sound bar has a screen on it, but it’s reminiscent of an old calculator from the early 90s. This wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but due to the menu structure, this makes it very hard to navigate and know what you are changing. Reading the status of what you are on requires the menu to scroll since the width of the screen is not very big. Another huge oversight, is this device does not come with a manual! It comes with a quick start guide to show you how to plug it in, but that’s it. There’s no information about what the menus mean, no information about how to edit or tweak the sound to your liking. No information about the different settings and sound options. The only way to get a proper manual is to download it, which again wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but it doesn’t tell you this anywhere. It would be nice if it included a little card that gave you a direct link to an online manual so you can know what all the options are available to you. This is a smart device meaning you can connect it to your Wi-Fi to then be able to use an app to control or change some settings. Getting it connected to Wi-Fi was easy enough, but the Philips app to control the sound bar is pretty terrible. It looks old and outdated and is basically just a rebrand of the DTS Play-Fi app. This will give you some basic controls over it, but if you want to tweak the sound or update the firmware, you have to download an additional app that is also, not that great. After doing this, it told me there was an update for my sound bar. I attempted to do this and I can honestly say, I don’t know the first couple times if it actually updated. Again, there is no instructions on what to do or the process. I must have gone through the firmware update 6 times. Each time seemed a little different so I know it was doing something, but there is no confirmation when it’s done or if it errored out, or completed successfully. After one of the updates, I couldn’t get sound of of the bar at all! It wouldn’t play sound from any source at all! Luckily, after another factory reset and another firmware update, I was able to get sound back out of it. I was very worried it bricked itself during one of these updates. There is an amber LED that will say on at all times if it’s connected to Wi-Fi. I think it may shutoff if you do a complete power down, but it loses connectivity to Wi-Fi when doing that, so you wouldn’t be able to Bluetooth or Airplay to it if it’s “off”. Would be nice if after a certain amount of time, all lights turned off. Lastly, the subwoofer low end is almost non existent. I played with every setting I could, turned the subwoofer volume all the way up, turned the bass all the way up, and you still could barely hear any low end at all. Didn’t matter if I was playing music, or listening to a movie, there was barely any low end bass at all. I was pretty disappointed in this. What’s the point of having a subwoofer if you can hardly hear it? I tried testing the Atmos sound, and while it did give a decent sound stage, it still didn’t wow me really. Maybe the room I have it in was not conducive to being able to reproduce this effect, but didn’t seem to be that awesome. If you are simply wanting a sound bar to give you better sound than the built in TV speakers, then this could fit the bill, but if you are wanting something to place in your theatre room, or basement to watch movies on and expect to have some good low end, this will miss the mark. Sadly, this won’t change anyone’s mind of why you don’t think of Philips when you think of sound reproduction. ... show more
