After installing a telephoto lens, the minimum focusing distance increases. The 2× lens requires approx. 5m (16.4 ft), the 2.35× lens requires approx. 6m (19.7 ft) for clear focus. Shooting at shorter distances may cause out-of-focus images. Why does the phone consume more battery when shooting with external recording using the Phone Grip? When using external recording, the Phone Grip acts as a card reader and continuously transfers data to the phone, causing extra power drain. Tested from about 80% battery, power consumption increases by roughly 3% per hour. This is normal.

I have tried several I phone 17 Promax camera grip add ons. This one is the best so far. It makes ergonomic sense in your hand with fairly comfortable and balanced grip. It looks very good. It fits in your pocket. The program is good for manual control and 'plays ball' with the regular I phone Photos. You can activate the system readily with 1-2 button pushes. I will be trying the Micro chip to see if importing photos into Windows is easier than the current complex Apple->Windows process- (avoiding I- Photo intermediary). Negatives: You cannot use your existing case so must use the included case which is nice but not grippy. I am buying a mag ring grip to securely handle the phone for calls and to stand it on a table, especially vertically. The case is very tight and I cannot readily get it off ( if I wanted to use the strap connectors). The program does not zoom smoothly from lens to lens- you have to choose and then can zoom within a small range on that lens. The output is listed as only 12 megapixel, although in a test I could not see the resolution difference on the phone screen vs 48 in the I phone program. Manual adjustments of Iso, shutter speed as slow as 1 second are good. (I Phone lenses are always wide open only). I think this grip will make travel photography better, since I will not be taking my Sony A7-5.

Not great, not terrible, but I did end up returning it. TLDR: App is not very user-friendly, had issues with it defaulting to Chinese for prompts and icons. Offers automatic watermarks that can be customized to your liking. Lots of filter options. Requires some back and forth in settings when swapping lenses. Drains battery really fast when used with the bluetooth retro grip. The 2.35x telephoto lens is solid and nice, offering a decent zoom before image quality deteriorates. Picture quality was crisp and clean but the colors were consistently washed out, regardless of settings. Retro case is fun to use, but doesn't offer much protection for the phone. I'm no pro when it comes to cameras, but here are my thoughts on this kit: The PGYTECH App - Needs a LOT of work. This app is power hungry, my phone always got really hot while using it. Bits of the UI would flip between Chinese (I think) and English, even though I had language set via settings. I'd get prompts and icons I could not understand, regularly needing to close and restart the App to clear them. The filter settings are available at the swipe of a finger, which seems great in theory but it would trigger if my finger brushed the screen at an angle. I got frustrated pretty quick having to switch it back every time it happened on accident. Lenses can be physically swapped on the fly, but it's not as simple to do so in the app. You have to go into the settings to change which lens you're using each time you switch. One thing I did really like about the app is the watermark and border customization. I could make it as simple or fancy as I liked, or just turn it off completely. Photo Quality - I tried both the "Auto" mode and "Manual". I spent way too much time trying to adjust the colors, filters and brightness and still ended up with washed out photos. For comparison, I included a photo of the same landscape used with the standard iPhone 17pro camera/app (the pic with no borders) and the photo using the PGYTECH app with no special lens or filter. No matter what I did, the colors remained dull. However, they did consistently come out clean and crisp looking. Lenses - The kit came with the 2.35x telephoto lens and I picked up the 2x on the side. The lenses are solid, heavy and look like something a pro would use. They come with a metal screw on cap for the front, silicone cover for the back and a pouch for storage. They click into place via the included adapter/case. While they were nice for distance and performed very well, I had to take them off constantly and toggle the lens setting in order to do any family photos or landscapes. I wish they offered a lens with a manual zoom, it would save a lot of time and grief. To really take advantage of the telephoto lenses, a tripod is a must because there is no built-in stabilization. The case - Brilliant idea, but does need some improvements. The kit is basically a fancy phone case. Pop off your old one and put this on, slide on an adapter and you're good to go. The adapter for the lenses is quite nice, it's solid metal and clicks into place on the phone case. The grip piece was fun to use and relatively simple to set up but it did revert to default settings a few times. It pulls power directly from your phone and connects to the app via Bluetooth. It has a microSD slot for extended storage - though it did take me a while to figure out how to switch from internal storage to the SD. Downside to the grip piece: it drains battery very quickly. My phone charge was in the red within a couple of hours, even if I wasn't using it. The quality of the base phone case was severely lacking - no bumpers, stiff plastic and felt cheap compared to the other pieces in the kit. I don't see this protecting the phone very well if it gets dropped. Extras - Also includes a strap and tripod adapter. The strap is a great idea, but the clips to connect the strap to the tethers on the phone case are not. Snapping the pieces together is easy enough, but twice I caught my phone from falling when the clip came undone after some walking around. The tripod adapter worked perfectly, no issues with that piece, and it's solid metal. I used the kit for 4 of the 11 days of my trip - would have used it more if it weren't for the color quality and insane battery drain. In the end, I returned it because it was too tedious to use and for the same price I can just get a camera.

The App Makes This System Nearly Unusable I've given this kit multiple chances over several attempts, but the it's the app that consistently fails with errors and glitches. The promised seamless Bluetooth connectivity and camera controls become an exercise in frustration when the software doesn't cooperate. Hardware Quality Feels Amazing, Performance Disappointing The physical components are genuinely impressive - the grip, lens, and accessories all feel premium and well-constructed. But the 2.35X telephoto lens produces inverted images, and the overall user experience is so unintuitive that I dreaded pulling this out for shoots. Great hardware let down by poor execution. It fit my phone perfectly. It was not easy to use at all, and it is way too expensive for the frustration it caused me.

The 2.35X telephoto pulls distant subjects much closer (too much) and the image stays sharp at full extension. The physical controls on the grip feel like a real camera and I can adjust the relevant settings without touching the screen. The grip attaches securely and it's comfortable to hold the full setup with the lens mounted. I actually like it so much I always carry the phone with it now. The microSD records footage externally without filling phone storage and I don't have to manage clips during a shoot. This is the feature that set it apart from the rest. The Bluetooth remote triggers shots from a distance for unattended or repositioned setups. The companion app unlocks additional shooting controls and the LUTs are amazing. There are so many film LUTs to choose from. The vintage strap is well built and quite good looking, matching the dark leatherette of the case. There is even a leather theme on the camera app to go with it. I can switch between neck and shoulder carry depending on the situation. The telephoto also requires the included adapter ring for mounting, which adds one step to setup. But I just keep it on the case since it looks so good with the metal construction. Great job PGYTECH, you done it again.
