Initially purchased this collar at my local humane society when I adopted my husky-aussie mix. Liked the bright pink (raspberry) color and that it was a martingale collar. Durability...she chewed her first one because I put it on too loose. Bought another one and made sure it fit closer to her neck...she's never been able to chew on it after that. As my girl has grown, I needed a new collar and returned to these PetSafe collars. I like that the medium collar comes in 3/4" width...most mediums are 1", but my girl is on the smaller size, so 1" collars look huge on her. Even with the narrower width, the collar is strong and the buckle and martingale part hold securely. My one gripe is that the little rubber tab that a tag can be attached to breaks easily. I've attached a name tag to the two collars she's had, and both ripped off. I could attach it to the metal ring, but don't like the clanging when I attach her leash. Still, a great collar! I have 4 month old puppies, Belgian Malinois and a LabraBull. They’re too small for prong collars. They also battle every second, with one grabbing the other by this collar constantly and you would never know by any wear. They’re very durable and effective. We have deer and the dogs go insane when walking the property and I would be dead if I didn’t have these on them. No one has slipped out, they’re adjustable. I like how they look. Easy on and off. We had one instance of our dog being able to back out of her normal collar after seeing a bunny. We bought this to prevent that from happening and it works perfectly. It tightens when she pulls forward or back so she cannot escape or pull while on a walk. Seems like a good, sturdy collar. They just run big so be aware of that. The measurements are for the collar in the tightest position, so make sure you add 3-4” to that before comparing it to the actual size of your dogs neck. My dog has a 14-15” neck, and the small fit her well.

Not all Martingales are the same, even if labeled "Petsafe". This exact collar came on our newly adopted dog, and the collar lasted more than 3 years. I had been looking for the same style for quite some time. Most stores carry larger sizes only. Bought Amazon's smallest size, 3/8" width, for our 7-pound pup, and it's perfect. The side clip for easy on/off is a must, much better than other over-the-head designs. Safe, easy to use, comfortable!! Bought this collar in other colors because price is so reasonable. Excellent collar, budget friendly and durable (for most dogs). I bought a size Large 1” last autumn when I adopted, but just purchased a Medium 1” for a better fit and couldn’t be happier! The martingale loop changes size with the collar size! Photos top to bottom: my dog’s flat collar in gray, new Medium collar out of the box without fitting, and the Large collar fitted to my dog so that the martingale loop *when closed* is safely inescapable without choking. Photo 1 shows martingales with closed loop, photo 2 with open loop, and photo 3 is a close-up on the martingale loops to show difference in size between medium and large. My dog’s comfortable collar size for everyday wear is around 17”-18”, and proper closed martingale restraint is at 15.5”. When not leashed, the fitted Large would hang so loose (22”) that she could easily back out and it could shake off in a vigorous game of tug. There was too much slack in the loop! Sizing down to a Medium 1” worked for us because it has a smaller loop. She gets the same secure fit pulled tight, and less wiggle room when loose, making it a safer collar both on and off leash. ... show more

The size descriptions are deceiving and the loop (the main feature) is designed too long to make sense. We have a boxer with a pretty big neck, 18". So we chose the Large size (13"-20"), thinking that this refers to the adjustment range of the collar. However, it turns out that the shortest you can make it with the loop being "relaxed" is 20". When the loop tightens by pulling on the leash, the overall length can go down to 13". In other words, with a 18" neck, the collar hangs pretty loose even on the shortest setting, basically just held in place by the ears. When you pull on the leash (or the dog gets hung up!) it'll tighten just like a slip leash. Nothing "safer" or more comfortable about this one. ... show more
