I bought three of these for our 3 big dogs. I tested them and they all pulled apart with about 50 lb of pulling force. I got them because, like so many others have said, one of our dogs got her jaw stuck in the collar of one of our other dogs. Here are my thoughts. First, maybe the smaller collars have a lighter break away point, but with the medium size collars, i would never trust that the break away action will work with small dogs. I would say use it only for 30+ pound dogs. (Thrashing action of a 30lb dog will definitely exceed the 50lb i estimate required to break the latch.) Second, people reported the plastic breaks. I pulled the collars apart several times on all 3 collars, and none of them broke. Third, DO NOT RELY ON THIS AS A RESTRAINT DEVICE. It is designed to break free with a pulling force. If your dog pulls on a walk, or whatever, it will break free.... just like it's supposed to do. Forth, the red is pretty red. It's slightly on the pink side, but it's definitely more red than pink. ... show more

Every dog I have wears these collars. They are perfect for avoiding accidents from getting caught on fences, cupboard knobs or anything that may snag them. The collar works as designed. We have a Feist that if you do not double click the D hooks, will break the collar (which is the intent) instantly. I have 4 dogs. It's important for your dog to always have identification on, even in the house. I have had these collars break away during rough play, and it's designed to. But they pop right back together. No issues so far with daily use, and they never just randomly fall off. You do have to hook both D rings together to use with a leash. But much safer then a regular collar. ... show more

I purchased two of these for dogs as they are both very rambunctious and can easily get their collars stuck on things. I have an Australian Shepherd and a Coonhound mix, both of which weigh about the same. The collars had the perfect amount of give and would not regularly come off unless a lot of pressure was applied. That being said, I tested the collars multiple times and even saw one of the breakaway moments in action shortly after purchasing this collar and it worked exactly as it was supposed to. Upon reading a bunch of reviews before purchasing, I noticed a lot of people gave lower reviews for this collar because they tried to use it on a walk and it broke away, allowing their dog to run loose... I'd like to note there are two metal loops on the collar specifically meant to prevent this when using it on walks. All you have to do is ensure the leash clips onto BOTH loops and it prevents pressure from being applied to the breakaway point. Now, that being said, it's common to have these collars as household collars meant to hold their tags in case they somehow get out of the house and just use different collars or special leashes for walks. Genuinely, I think this product's reviews aren't as high as they should be solely because of user error. Half of the negative comments I read were because they failed to secure the leash on the collar properly on walks, the other half was because the collars broke away too easily or not easily enough because they bought the wrong size for their dog. ... show more
