We were on vacation this week with our dogs being home alone most of the time. One is younger and they like to play so I wanted them to have a breakaway collar just in case- not really thinking it would be needed but to give peace of mind. At some point while we were gone, our dogs were playing and our older dogs teeth got caught in our younger ones breakaway collar. IT BROKE AWAY!!! I am so thankful I had these for them as nobody was home and nobody would be by to check on them for another few hours. Will definitely only be using breakaways from now on! For reference, I have a 60 pound blue heeler and we got her the medium and it fits well, she is a little thicker in the neck area. We got the small for our 35 pound blue heeler who is a more athletic build. Get them, it could save your dogs life or serious injuries!! ... show more

the reason for my purchase is because my 7 month old dachshund had an accident in which her collar got stuck on a storage cart with wheels and ended up hanging from it. due to her collar being so tight, she nearly choked to death as we tried to release her from it. it got to the point that her tongue was sticking out and her breaths were shallow, scariest moment we’ve ever had to go through. after this i decided to get her a break away collar. i honestly think its way too bulky for my dachshund and the smallest collar is still a little too big for her despite tightening it as much as possible but it’s what i’m sticking with for her safety. seems like great quality and very sturdy. ... show more

    • Already worked three times in the first two days!
I bought this four our 14 week old Havapoo (Havanese / Poodle mix) puppy. I put it on her and found it missing a few hours later. I was thinking I would find it laying on the floor somewhere with the break away clasp coming open too easily. Instead, I found that our puppy had decided to lay on a floor vent while she chewed on her chew toy. Her tag had slid into the vent, then turned sideways making it impossible to retract. When she went to stand up, the break away clasp must have worked exactly as designed because I found the collar laying on top of the vent with the tag stuck inside. Can you imagine how scared that would have made a little puppy had she had a standard collar on? Further, if she would have twisted a standard collar in her struggle to escape (very likely), she could have easily been killed! I was even more surprised when the same thing happened two more times over the course of the next day. This collar saved our puppy from at best a scare and at worst injury or death three times in less than two days! Fortunately, in the intervening week our puppy has stopped laying on the vent to play. The collar has not come off accidentally once, even during an hour-long vigorous "puppy play group" with several other active pups. The two D-rings to allow easy and secure use of a leash. I would pay two or three times what I did for the peace of mind of knowing that our little dog won't be hurt or killed by her collar when she's out of our sight. This is the best breakaway collar I have found for my dogs. It's a must for any dog. I find we need a bigger size than I first thought. I was disappointed I couldn't get another color in this size. I would have loved purple. Despite the ability to breakaway, this is very sturdy and long lasting. I have peace of mind for my new rambunctious two year old puppy. ... show more
