This is my second one. The first one lasted for a very long time but eventually with wear and tear and a friends larger dog going through it, the screw became stripped. I love the durability and the magnetic close feature. My dog will only use it on our screened in porch so he loves it.

I bought the “new used” medium option and it was easy to install as I replaced a previous pet door with it and the hole was around the same size. Mine didn’t come with any kind of instructions or any hardware however so if you’re buying the used version just be aware of that. If you need a cutting template that it said it comes with you may be SOL if you buy used. I installed mine with metal screws like previous reviewers suggested and it worked very well. Total install time for me was only about 10 mins, which includes removing my previous pet door and installing this one. My favorite feature, and the thing that made me get this door, is the sliding panel used to keep it closed. My previous door had a flimsy lock at the bottom that did nothing to keep my dogs from busting in like the KoolAid man. I used to have to move a kennel cage in front of the door to block it when I didn’t want the dogs going out but no more! And I will see how the flap stands the test of time, my guess is that it will probably need to be replaced after a few months/year of use. ... show more

We liked the first PetSafe door so much we decided to add a second one. Now they can choose front yard or back. Update: While quality is important, customer service is equally so. When I broke one of the nylon screws and contacted PetSafe to inquire about purchasing replacements, the woman told me she'd be happy to send additional screws and sleeves free of charge, and then we chatted about our dogs. Purchased both the Extreme Weather Efficient Door (for exterior door from garage) and the Pet Safe Freedom Aluminum Pet Door (from laundry room into garage). Both have excellent and clear instructions. They are well made and fit tightly. And have a panel you can insert or snap on (depending on the door) if you want to block them. I was a little concerned about the nylon screws, but they didn't strip. I did shear the head off one of the ones on the Freedom Door from over tightening, but I called PetSafe and they are sending a replacement. Highly recommended. I have installed a variety of pet door in other houses and these are the best I've seen. They nicely cover the core of the door too. Comment: When cutting your door, if it is not wood, use a long blade (for metal) in your jigsaw. My doors are fiberglass and insulation (one was a fire door, the other an exterior door). I melted my old wood blade half way through my first door and had to run to the hardware store where I found the Bosch T3218F3 T-shank blade. It worked a whole lot better. My doors are 1-3/4" thick and the longer blade is needed. Probably available on Amazon too. ... show more

I got this door for my dog that would always come in and out the house by scratching the door. and would always want to go out when it heard the neighbors dog bark too. Installing this gave her freedom to go out whenever she wants to and come in without me having to get the door. It took a moment to get her confident to use it. The installation was a bit tricky on my rigid foam filled door, make sure you have silicone or something to seal the opening, or else water may seep in. Hindsight I should've gotten window flashing tape to prevent water getting into the foam of the door. Hope I dont have problems in the future, other than that dog door works well. ... show more
