My cat likes to sit on the outdoor balcony to watch the birds and the birds watch her. She would constantly meow to be let out and in again so someone recommended I get a pet door for the sliding glass door. I did not know that such an item existed. I did some research and this product did all that I needed at the best price. I was apprehensive whether it would fit. I measured the door frame several times and then placed the order. It fit just fine. Since I am a tenant I did not permanently install this insert for the sliding glass door frame. I also do not live on the first floor so burglars were not my primary concern. The insert has a spring mechanism at one end so you can easily insert or remove at will. The only problem I had is not even related to the product. The installer of the glass door did not level the frame and the entire mechanism leaves a gap. There are multiple videos on how to easily correct this but my sliding glass door is a lemon. There is no adjustment screw so I put in a maintenance request with property management. The maintenance person was just as confused as I was because there appears to be no adjustment screw. Also, my sliding glass door is not full width. So with the insert the space for entering and exiting is reduced significantly. In order to bring items in and out of the balcony I have to remove the pet door insert to allow enough room to access the balcony. Again, these are NOT issues with the product. The product is exactly what I needed and performs as promised. The glass panel is especially thick and durable. The issue I have is with the existing door frame and inferior workmanship that detracts from this great product. It was worth the money and even though my set up is flawed it works fine. Only took my cat about 24 hours to figure out the door. The dog took much longer and he is still timid. Magnetic closure on the pet door flap is secure and works well. I was a little overwhelmed when the box arrives. In order to install this door you need to have a familiarity with an electric drill. A second pair of of hand is also very helpful. The basic installation is pretty straightforward: position the door in the opening, make sure the door is level and straight, and then using the included hardware mount the brackets to the dog door. The kit includes weather stripping a door weep. It took us a little trial and error to get the door to line up correctly with the sliding glass door, so we had to buy some more weather stripping. So if you're not very handy (like me), you'll want reinforcements for this project. It can be difficult to line the door up, make the holes in the right places for the locking pin, etc. But when you're done, the door is fantastic! The door works beautifully with the decor, it is relatively air-tight, and most importantly it makes life with for my Basset Hound a little easier. First, the door itself works well with house. The trim matches perfectly and the glass above the doggy door looks beautiful. I like that the locking pin keeps the sliding glass door secure. The window lets in the light that we loved from the sliding door. The glass door is still functional for the family when we want to use the back yard. We can even still use the screen door if we want fresh air in the house. When the wind is blowing hard and gusting, the door includes a plastic panel that allows you to lock the doggy door (which also keeps the wind out). Getting the door to line up correctly is critical and relatively hard to do. If you can see daylight between the sliding door and the doggy door insert, try to adjust your sliding door, the doggy door, or the weather stripping. After several attempts we did get a very good seal. Finally, and most importantly, this was a critical addition for our hound. I work full time. Sometimes, I am able to get someone to come to the house to let him out, but sometimes I can't. I had always felt a little guilty leaving him in the house all day. But now he's getting older and sometimes has to take Prednisone. The prednisone does wonders for his skin condition, but it makes him have to go to the bathroom every five minutes! It wasn't fair to him to be trapped inside (and the weather here doesn't allow him to be outside...plus he would be unhappy with being banished). So I was shopping on Amazon and found this door. It has made life easier for both me and my Basset. He can go lay in the sun on nice afternoons while I'm at work and go to the bathroom as often as he wants. I can work without trying to duck out early because of the dog. One final note; I got the "Large" door which is perfect for Basset hounds. My brother's corgis also love it. My friend's boxer has to duck a little to get through, but it hasn't slowed him down. ... show more

Installation of the door was fine, though it does leave gaps on both sides...inside the track and against the sliding door side. Some weather stripping fixes that for the most part. They include a long piece of weather stripping/glass sweep stuff, that closes the gap so cold air and bugs don't get in. However, the adhesive they provide doesn't stick very well. Installed for less than 12hrs so far, and it's already fallen off several times. Soooo, plan for something else. The door itself feels pretty well built. ... show more
