This is my second Petmate kennel (the last we gave away after our boy passed away) and I’d say it has the same sturdiness as the other larger one. I have a nice sized pillow in it for comfort for our puppy and he even goes in on his own at times to chew on a toy he wants to himself. He gets little 5 minute timeouts in there and even though he initially goes after the door, he leaves it after just a few seconds. We do positive training in it so that there is no anxiety when we have to leave him for a while.     • Doggy Den w/ a Lousy Door!
This is a very nice sized kennel for German shepherds or a bit bigger dog. I would gladly give this kennel 5 stars if it weren’t for the very badly designed door lock. I have 2 of these kennels since 2017 for my dogs and I have lost track how many times I’ve had to replace the door! The locking mechanism breaks/it comes apart. I am probably going to downsize and try the one with the other door, which I don’t love because I prefer them to be comfortable in the bigger kennel. I am so thankful I bought this crate for my pitbull mix. He has severe separation anxiety as he was a rescue pup and was used to being crated with his brother. When his brother got adopted he absolutely HATED being left alone and in his large wire crate. He ended up drooling so bad the entire time he was in there, trying to escape and cutting himself, escaping and ruining things in the house, chewing the wires off the crate to escape and getting the zip ties off. In his old Crate I tried a thunder shirt, essential oils, dog separation anxiety music on the iPad and was about to give up and take him to the vet to be out on anxiety meds. I ended up buying this crate since he completely destroyed the other one. I set it up in the living room and put a dog bed in it (that I thought he would destroy, but he didn't). He hasn't been able to escape or hurt himself and actually lays down in the crate. I could tell over the last few weeks that he is getting used to his crate and enjoying it. The past few days he has gone in the crate and just laid down while we were home. This is a HUGE step for him. I can tell he feels safe in this crate and I am SO SO SO grateful that this crate is helping my dog. This crate is totally worth the money!     • Great for your dog, bad hard to carry
Shipping was fast! Assembling was this lightweight crate was easy. This crate has a lot of good qualities. My one big problem was it’s size. The 70-90 lb crate was a perfect, comfortable size for my 70 lb Pitbull mix but It doesn’t fit in the hatch or the back seat of the Subaru Impreza. Someone suggested you could fit it in the empty hatch if you dis-assembled it. We took it apart and had to wiggle it in, in an awkward crooked angle. I also had trouble handling it because of its size to big for me to carry and a hazard for me alone trying to carry it. Best for a bigger car or a 4x4 with a tall hatch or seat area. Also, if you have a disability you will need some kind of dolly to move it on and straps to hold it in place to the dolly whether it’s empty or occupied with the dog. Luckily, there places at all four corners to tied the crate down once you get it to your car. I ended up returning it. I think it is a great solid crate but it would be even better to have enhanced by having straps to pull it and information as to what kind of vehicle works best with each size. ... show more

I love this I got it for my puppy because he was biting his wire crate and kept getting his teeth stuck so I was scared to put him in it, now with this new crate he can’t bite it , it’s super sturdy, very spacious 10/10 recommend it

This was delivered on Oct 10, and just a couple months later (December) - the crate is officially useless. Upon delivery we noticed the crate was delivered with NO bolts. Amazon customer service gave me a credit to guy purchase new bolts at a local hardware store, which was nice. We have a Weimaraner who weighs 65lbs. He was able to easily open the latch and escape the crate. I thought maybe it was user-error so made sure to triple check the latch with my wife the next time we left, and sure enough when we got home - he was out of the crate. He was able to open the latch, and another time he just pushed the entire door off. At that point I started using metal clips to hold the door on, which helped until he realized the plastic is such low quality - he can just chew his way out. The crates plastic is roughly the same quality as most dog toys... Granted, he is a super smart dog and a bit of an escape artist, but this crate was a disappointment from the start. I keep it in the back of my Sequoia for my GSD. He's trim, about 85 pounds, plenty of room. Had to pull a seat out to make it fit (it is XL, after all), but it's the perfect set up for our family. I've had it for over a year. The plate covering the door release popped off early on, but everything functions just the same. Light for how big it is, hoses out easy, very sturdy - I used to drag it out and carry it across a field every other morning when I had time to track with my dog - sigh - and the plastic never ripped. The metal ''windows'' help. He's never tried to chew it, nor have I. ... show more
