  • perfect for use with feral cat colony where we just need something for 2 cats, bedding, and heat pad
Size: 28 inch (Pack of 1) Style: Kennel Only
Perfect for my needs. I'm using this as an additional shelter for a couple of feral cats. I have been helping out a feral colony for several years now. A generous person in the community provides food and water consistently all year long as well as access to an unheated porch/mudroom. I help with acquiring supplies and engaging in seasonal set up and clean up. When the population was 12-15 (all trapped, spayed/neutered, returned to territory), we had several feral cat shelters in place around community. With the porch being home base for food and water. When the cold temps would set in, if any of the cats needed additional sheltering, the porch was/is always a place to go so we would set up a large dog house (igloo) with bedding (and if sub zero temps, add in heating unit). As the years have progressed, the population has decreased. At this point in time, there are but 2-3 cats left in the colony. While nothing else has changed for them, we decided that the large igloo dog house was too big to set up for 2-3 cats, and too big to be effective in cold weather. So, I set out to find a smaller unit that could handle 2 or 3 cats huddled together, or 1-2 spread out. We think it is 2 original feral cats and 1 random cat that likely has a home but enjoys eating the food. Sometimes a racoon or opossum, too. So come winter I expect to really see only 2 cats using the shelter. Although down to just two ferals, they have spent their entire life knowing that this is home base. They have zero inclination toward human interaction, but they know where the food comes from and will wait patiently while we fill bowls of food and water (2x a day!). So as I searched for the perfect vessel, I also took into consideration room for bedding and a heat pad. I didn't want anything too large (or I would just go ahead and use the old igloo), didn't want anything with lots of air holes, and preferred something flat on top so the cats could have an additional tier to lounge on. As with the igloo, we'd be keeping this up on a table. I looked at a lot of options- using a covered litter box if I could find one large enough, other containers.. basically wanted a large box that was smaller than the igloo but more sturdy than a cardboard box. It dawn on me to look at crates of this style. Even that took awhile to figure out, as there are many styles and most weren't what I needed- and were either too big or too small. SO, I was pleased when I found this one. The dimensions seemed right, the placement and size of the air holes seemed appropriate to our needs, and the top is pretty much flat. I put it together quickly. It comes with "live animal" stickers on it already along with another one. It also comes with a food/water holder. I don't need anything of that. I didn't even put the door on, but it would be super easy to put it on if the need arises. I can cover the air holes when it gets too cold by placing a towel over top and letting excess dangle down. The slats from the air holes will be perfect for use with a low wattage heating pad. We have a plug near table where this is set up, and I can likely figure out a way to fish the cord through, if not , then just out the main opening will work. If at some point this is no longer needed, then it will make a good bed for the indoor cats, or as a carrier for vet trips- if you have strength to carry this size as well as have room in vehicle. I have never air traveled with a pet, so I can't comment on how well it would stand up to those needs. I did notice that it has extra holes to run zip ties through for added security. This is explained in the short, easy directions. 28" L X 20.5" W X 21.5"H is large enough to accommodate a couple of cats, or a smallish dog. My pics are from after just setting it up. I have more to add to it, but at least you can see what it looks like once it is put together (minus the door). ... show more

  • Perfect for flying for our Medium dogs.
Size: 36 inch (Pack of 1) Style: Kennel Only
It was easy to put together and had everything required for Delta/Korean Air at the time. Anything it didn't have they (Airline) provided other than door water bottle, bedding/pads and zip ties for the door on drop off. So make sure you grab zip ties and check with the latest information as they always change. It's sturdy and still in great shape after international travel. We still use it from time to time when we need to crate the dogs. Now this 36 In is a big crate, we had to get push carts for each and the dogs when they get excited can flip the crate on the smaller carts at the airport so be mindful of that. It makes for a tougher time if you have a bunch of luggage also depending on how many people are going with you. I suggest getting help as a tip when going to an Airport as they can assist you up till the security gates. ... show more

  • Large size 90 lb Golden retriever
Size: 48" Style: Kennel Only
The large size fit perfectly for my 90 lb golden retriever male to fly from Atlanta to Frankfurt Germany then to Barcelona. I hired a pet travel agency and they picked him up at my place and brought him to the airport. It all worked out well - also very sturdy and not exceptionally heavy for the large size. ... show more

  • Sz Small worked fine for 18 lb cat, on Alaska Air, 5 hr. flight.
Size: 21 inch (Pack of 1) Style: Kennel Only
We had an older version of this same kennel, with very solid-feeling plastic walls. This new version seemed noticeably flimsier material - ie, with light to moderate pressure on top or sides, you could easily get the material to buckle slightly, form a concave depression, which returns back to flat with release of pressure. However, we had to get an obese cat from the west coast to New Orleans by air cargo, and this ended up working just fine. We were assured by the airlines nothing would be stacked on top of it. Our older version, however, had no window or holes in the back, and we ended up using this new one for the added assurance of better ventilation. Most importantly, once assembled, the gate and closure mechanism felt very secure. The cat weighed 18-19 lbs, so a little over the recommended weight capacity (15 lbs) for the size small Sky Kennel, but we went with that. He had plenty of room to stand up, turn around, etc; Assembly of the crate was very easy, really hardly required the instructions that accompanied the kennel. The provided plastic + metal/plastic wingnuts seemed lightweight, but they did hold up for this trip; (BTW, airline did NOT check to see what they were comprised of at check in.), and at destination did not appear to have loosened at all. After scouring the internet, and the Alaska Airlines website for cargo kennel specs, and 2 phone calls to airline reps (who didn't know any more than was on the website; sometimes less) - we finally opted to drill holes in the upper and lower "lips" or edges of the plastic border surrounding the metal grill door, for the purposes of having 4 , releasable zip ties that secure the door to the frame, as stated in the kennel specs online. These holes are NOT already present in the size small kennel, but it was easy to make them. Integrity of surrounding plastic remained very good, after holes drilled. Note: the Alaska website says something like "must use original holes" for securing the ties; however, the airlines (at least at SEA) either didn't know what that meant, or didn't care that we created these holes ourselves. One rep told me that this instruction was intended to prevent all kinds of other customer modifications that might weaken the structure of a kennel; another one said they didn't know anything about the requirement. The only person at Alaska at check-in who even looked at the zip-ties was the security person who was scanning kennels for hidden illegal items, and he just was trying to figure out whether to have me remove them temporarily to open the door (to use the wand inside). After staring at our somewhat insolent, angry obese tabby for a moment, he opted not to have the door opened. (good decision). Kennel made it to NO in good condition; other than Alaska at the New Orleans end not being able to find our cat and someone else's dog right away (they were taken to wrong end of baggage claim), no mishaps, no kennel dents or dings. This kennel seems perfectly adequate for single-leg flights within USA; the provided food/water dispenser was ok, but really requires more zip ties to secure to grate if you want it to stay in place. Would have been nice to have pre-drilled holes in the plastic door frame for the zip-ties that I think every airline requires, but it's an easy DIY. The ventilating holes in the back side were really nice for our cat to be able to see out all sides, but not enough to make him feel exposed. The stickers provided with kennel were fine, but I was glad we had an extra Live Animal sticker. Except for briefly (~ 45 min.) misplacing the cat at destination airport, we were very pleased with the handling by Alaska; especially the notification, brought to our seat after boarding, that our pet had been loaded on board and doing well. ... show more

  • Easy to assemble
Size: 28 inch (Pack of 1) Style: Kennel Only
I'm a klutz, so when I say it's easy to put together I mean it's really, really easy to put together. Very sturdy and well-made. I got two for my two Mini Bernedoodle puppies. These are perfect.
