  • Worth more than it's weight in gold!
TLDR; This collar has completely changed our lives! I’ve lived in the country all my life and I have “country dogs” that are used to having a large fenced area to roam off leash and no worries about barking or running off. We recently sold our house and we are living in an RV until we complete our move out of state. I have had this collar for about a year and a half. I originally got it to train my new pup not to chase chickens. Worked like a charm with just the vibration when he was just a few months old. I lost the collar for a while (you know how you put things in a "safe" place and then cannot remember where that safe place was?) But as I was moving I found it again and as soon as I showed it to my dog he lit up because he knows he is allowed to roam leash free outside of the fence with it on. He is still young (2 years old), and all training goes out the window when he sees a buzzard, bike, or motorcycle. He also loves to chase cars. I tried to break him of chasing cars, but the vibration alone wasn’t cutting it. The shock setting seemed to be hit or miss. I know it works because I tested it on myself. I found the problem to be the little RUBBER TIPS. I have never seen a shock collar with the rubber tips on it before. Yes, it works with the tips on, but it’s like it just doesn't make contact about 98% of the time. In an intense life or death situation, you really need that function to work for it to be effective. I removed the rubber tips and it has worked flawlessly. I was reading a lot of reviews where people say the shock function was not working – if you are having this issue, try removing the tips and see if that helps. I don’t leave the collar on him long enough for the metal to cause him any irritation, so the tips are pretty much pointless in my opinion. I do not use the shock setting unless it’s absolutely necessary, most of the time the beep and vibration get the job done now that he knows what the shock feels like. There are certain times when you just can’t break his focus(bikes, motorcycles etc), and the shock is the only thing that works. I keep it on about 5-10 and its very effective for us when it’s needed, which is not often. I ALWAYS give him a vibration before using the shock so that he learned that shock comes AFTER the vibration if the behavior is not corrected. I am very vigilant about surveying our surroundings for things that trigger him and keeping an eye on his body language, and I quickly switch to vibrate if I spy something that could potentially cause an undesired behavior. I use the beep to get his attention and to recall him. He knows when he hears that sound, that he needs to come back to me. About 99% of the time, he immediately trots back my direction. If he does not, I use the vibration. The only time I have used the shock is when he attempts to chase a motorcycle, car, or bicycle. He also has a bad habit of also going ballistic in the car when he sees something he’s never seen before, like an old classic car (strange I know) or a truck pulling a trailer with a large load (like scrap metal, a tractor etc.). It’s hard to correct that sort of behavior whilst driving. He will go Cujo in the backseat launching himself at the window and just being an absolute heathen. Most of the time he is buckled in and it’s not that big of an issue safety wise, but now that we have the RV he won’t be buckled in and I don’t need that happening while I’m driving down the road in a giant vehicle. It only took one time of correcting him with the shock for that habit to die. Since this collar is one of the older models, I have always been worried about how waterproof it is because the little rubber seal that covers the charging port doesn’t fit very snugly. Yesterday we were at the pond and my dog did about 20 minutes worth of swimming and I was a little worried that the collar would be ruined, but surprisingly it worked like a charm when he got done. I was reading some reviews and it appears that they have since upgraded the charging port cover. Hopefully we never have an issue, but it’s nice to know there is a lifetime warranty if we do experience a failure. I have a much older dog who has never been a big fan of strangers, and when you are living in the sticks – that’s a good thing. When you’re living in an RV park – not so good. He barks at every little thing when outside, and heaven forbid a kid on a bicycle rides by, both of them go nuts. The younger dog knows hush because he’s gone to work with me as a pup and learned not to bark. But since barking has never been an issue before for my older dog, I never really trained him to hush. I just ordered one of these for him, and hopefully we can restore peace in the RV park and actually allow the dogs to be outdoors without having to worry about them barking at every little thing. My only complaint is that I wish there was a dedicated button for each setting vs having to cycle through them. Its also very easy to accidentally change the setting or activate the collar function if you put it in your pocket or bump it, so I always check what setting I am on because I do not want to unintentionally shock him. I wish that the buttons had more of a tactile switch type button that was a little harder to activate. The buttons on the remote are like a TV remote, there is no tactile feedback and they are very easy to press/activate. I got a little wrist loop key ring to attach to the remote so that I can put the controller on my wrist vs in a pocket and since doing that I haven’t really had the issue of unintentional button pressing. Sorry for the long review, but this collar has dramatically helped me train my dog to be a much more responsive, well-behaved dog that is a pleasure to be around. It has allowed us the freedom of being off leash when we are not in a fenced in area and given me peace of mind that he won’t chase bikes, motorcycles, or cars and injure himself or anyone else. For $45, this collar is worth every single cent. I have never had a more expensive collar, but I feel pretty confident in saying that this one will do everything that those $150 collars can do at a fraction of the price. ... show more

  • Good Value and just as high quality as some higher priced models
This is the third dog training collar I have purchased, and definitely the best one by far. I have been using it just a few days, so I may update this review later, but for now, it is working great. I have a 70 pound German Shepherd who is a sweet dog most of the time, but feels the need to chase the cat. I got this collar to discourage her from that particular behavior. I have a lot of experience with dog training, so I am not a beginner, but this collar is easy enough for beginners and experts both to use. I also only use the shock function in extreme circumstances, like chasing the cat. If you use it all the time for every behavior that annoys you, it will not only damage your relationship with your dog but will not be as effective. Timing is everything when it comes to dog training. Just the same way as if you come home to a mess in your house and you punish the dog, the dog will not know why you are punishing it (any dog will look "contrite" if you are angry, because they feed off your body language) since the act happened likely hours ago. If you don't buzz, beep or zap the instant the behavior occurs, the dog will not understand why you are applying the correction. So it is nice to have a collar that is easy to use to give that instant correction. Here are the things I really like about this collar: It comes with a wall charger (some collars only come with a USB, so this is nice to have) and it charges both the remote and the collar at the same time, from different parts of the cord. Super convenient-you do not have to charge them separately. The remote fits nicely in your hand and has a belt clip. There are only 4 buttons, and they have very different symbols engraved into them so you don't accidentally hit the wrong button. It does take a little getting used to what each button means, but once you figure that out, it is easy to use. The Mode button lets you switch from a beep, to vibrate, to a shock. The beep is a default volume, but the vibrate and shock can be adjusted from a 1 to a 100 intensity. TO ANY BUYERS or POTENTIAL BUYERS: I emailed the company to get a replacement unit because the vibrate function did not work. OR SO I THOUGHT. There was actually nothing at all wrong with the vibrate function. On other collars, you press a button and the collar vibrates. But on this one, you can actually adjust the vibration level..NICE. I have noticed a few reviews stating that the vibration did not work. It makes me wonder if some buyers, like I had thought, assumed that it was broken when it actually wasn't. If vibrate or shock are at zero zero, there is "zero" vibrate or shock. You need to adjust the numbers based on what you need. Once I pushed the up arrow (these are located on the side of the unit, which is also nice since they do not interfere with the main buttons), and saw a number on the screen for vibrate mode, the collar vibrated as expected. I don't think it is immediately intuitive that this is how you get the vibrate to function. The shock mode is also the same way, so you can set your shock and vibrate to different intensities. My 70 lb dog did not need higher than a 15 on the shock scale. Another thing I appreciate is that this unit comes with several different sizes of prongs, and one set is very long, so is great for larger dogs. Most collars do not have prongs this long so if your dog has a lot of fur, the shorter prongs may not be useful. Some things I do not like: Not much. I don't like that I sometimes have to pair up the receiver to the collar so frequently, but this isn't that big of a deal. The instructions say to press the button on the collar once to get a single beep. Then hold for five seconds till the green LED flashes rapidly. It may take more than five seconds-just hold it till it flashes then beeps, then press the "Y" on the remote to pair them. It's easy to do, but don't worry about the "five seconds." The only other thing I do not like is that the collar itself only goes so small, so it is not suitable for tiny dogs. You can put the receiver on your own collar, but most dog collars for bigger dogs are 1 inch and this only fits 3/4th of an inch. Not a huge deal, but it would be better if the collar could be adjusted to more sizes. Customer service is GREAT! When I thought I needed a new collar, they responded immediately. When I explained that I didn't, they responded immediately. This collar comes with a lifetime warranty, so...good to know they are there if I need them. Things the box claims the collar does but that I haven't tested yet: There is a range of 1200 feet. Most owners won't need this much for general training, and I haven't gone this far out with it, but it does work across a large yard. It is also supposed to be waterproof, but I haven't tested this out yet. There is an "LED" function on the remote that is supposed to be for locating your dog in the dark as it makes the collar flash once every second, but I haven't used that yet, either. My overall rating 5 stars based on the functions I have used/need, plus customer service. ... show more

  • Receiver seems delayed
It's decent training collar. I feel like the contivety gives out not sure if it's the remote or the collar part. But I will be working with my hound and it takes 2 or 3 times of mashing the button to get the correction. The nylon collar is not that great it loosens, I need to try the other phlax leather collar it came with it just kind of cheap and I am scared it might get lost outdoors. I have to charge the collar and remote about 1-2x a week, water proof as far as I can tell. This is a decent kit if you just need some light training, keeping your dog out of the trash or away from the road, it's going to be fine for the price, but don't get this for a high training needs or hunting dogs. Would give higher review if I knew why the signal worked every time and didn't delay. ... show more
