  • Looks like it working
Since I've added this to my dogs water his teeth look whiter and cleaner. They were in pretty bad shape before and I haven't done anything else differently so while I have no proof I'm guessing it's the addition to his water.

  • Excellent tooth treatment, wasteful packaging
My cats don't tolerate having their teeth brushed, so I add this to their water daily. It was recommended by my vet, and we're pleased with the results. As soon as I get a new bottle I throw the pump away. Perhaps they have improved its design, but an old shampoo cap with a little hole works much better. When I called their customer service, the friendly representative explained that they were aware of problems with dripping and leaking but were determined to fix them in order to provide a precise dosage. Precision is an illusion, however. You are adding some product to a water bowl with no way to control how much each cat drinks. If you are doing your job right, the bowl will not be empty in the morning when you change the water, so some product inevitably goes to waste. It's not like preparing a syringe! Just squirt some reasonable amount in. They could make this more cheaply with less plastic. If not for the packaging I'd give it five stars. I'll definitely continue to buy it in any case. ... show more

  • MIRACLE JUICE!!!!
This product knocked my socks off. It is no exaggeration when I say that we have tried everything in the last five years and this is the only product that works. We have a senior greyhound with terrible teeth, she has already had two dentals and due to health issues cannot have another one...... Due to the fact that we cannot put her under again, the teeth that she has have to stay with her. Her breath got to the point where it was unbearable to get within 1 foot of her and this is about the fourth fresh breath product I have tried in the last few years. Much to our surprise, the odor started to fade THE FIRST DAY we used it! It used to be so bad that I would have to air out our car after she came for a ride with us because of the bad odor in the car. We are into our third week of using it and are shocked by how well it works and what an amazing job it did on the mouth odor. The most important thing with this product is to be absolutely diligent and follow the instructions right down to the letter. Because she is not a big water drinker, and because she normally have to have a lot of water with her food to soften it, I add the enzyme to a bowl of water first and then put the food in so that she gets the “ Splashing on the teeth“ effect. It took me a little while to figure out the best way we could use it but it turned out to work out beautifully. Remember that this product only works if it’s splashes around in their mouth, so for us it worked out beautifully. It’s very rare nowadays to find a product that does what it claims to do, and this one is it. We couldn’t be more impressed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ... show more

  • She doesn't turn her nose up!!
I've been using Oratene's Drinking Water Additive for my 8 year old pit-mix for about 2 weeks now. I was drawn to this product because it appears to be the veterinary line produced by Biotene, which is a human mouthwash that I have sworn by for years. After trying another water additive a while back, I was reluctant to try any others. It had been minty flavored (not in itself a downside, except that I think my dog was opposed to the flavor) and it caused the water to foam. Suffice it to say, my pup wouldn't get NEAR that water. That was probably a year ago, and recently I decided to look for another product to hopefully help combat her bad breath. Her teeth are in great shape, and she has been given a Dentastix snack every night since she was a puppy, but all the same, her breath is pretty off-putting. It doesn't take much of the Oratene per bowl of water - so it feels like the 4 oz. bottle it will probably last a while, even with using it (*ahem* when I remember) in two separate bowls (I keep one with her food, and one in my bedroom so she can get a drink at night if she's thirsty). I was immediately pleased to discover that it does NOT make the water foam, nor does it have a smell. In fact, my pup doesn't seem to notice it's there at all, and she continues to drink from the bowls. I have seen some improvement in her breath, and I think I'll likely see more once I get better about putting the Oratene in her bedroom bowl as well - as she actually favors that bowl in general. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product, and I anticipate keeping it on hand at all times. I will update this review once I've been consistently putting the Oratene in -both- water bowls so I can give a better idea as to how effective it has been. ... show more

  • If you’re even thinking about it, try it.
My dog had some concerning spots in his mouth and brushing is not something he will allow. We use dental chews but when we started using this, we noticed a significant change in his oral health. Or two dogs and two cats all drink the water with this added. The only down side is if you use a water bowl with a filter or fountain, it will mold quicker than normal. Consider switching to a generic water bowl or get ready to clean your pet fountain regularly and go through filters. ... show more

  • great product, anything to avoid traumatic dentals under a aesthetic
I am happy with This product so far. Even though in a remote location where many goods arrive Not in the best of shape, the bottle was sealed right and I have yet to notice any leaking. At first the pups weren’t so sure and stayed away from the water dish, When I mixed it first in a large gallon container so I got a larger water dish that holds 2 cups and added less product * One squirt * I also add a couple drops of colloidal silver into the stainless steel water dish which controls any biofilm and is good for them anyway * I mainly got this upon a friends recommendation, because my 6 year old chi has serious tartar and plaque and I do NOT want to put him through that teeth cleaning process again, I also brush several times a week. I think I can tell the plaque is scaling off his teeth, it hasn’t been that long of using the product but I can almost Scrape some plaque off with my nails which is a good sign. Will continue with the brushing also several times a week at least but he does Not like having his teeth brushed. Update - chunks came off after 3 months . Great product for sure. However, another update - Second order the bottle top was lose and some had spilled out on the way to us ... show more

  • NEW MUST-HAVE!!
I NEVER leave reviews but absolutely had to for this product. I have a 5 year old coton-de-tulear that had TERRIBLE plaque build up and I truly thought there was no going back - I was sure I was going to have to get some of his teeth extracted. His breath was terrible and more than anything, I was concerned that he was in a lot of pain due to his teeth. I’ve had this product for about 2 weeks and I am so impressed with the current condition of his teeth - plaque is literally disappearing and I have so much hope for the future!!! His breath is also a million times better. He is going in to see the Vet but in the interim, this is making all the difference. Want to mention that I do pair it with the Oratene Gel!! I would recommend this product to ANYONE!! Totally worth it!!!! ... show more

  • Cat owners: My cats didn't balk at this!
Cats notoriously hate water and food additives. The feline smelling capacity is something like 1000x more acute than humans, so they'll turn their nose at anything. My Persian-Himalayans are sisters with very different personalities. One will eat anything, while the other refuses most everything. When I saw the "flavorless" label on this, I was hoping the manufacturer wasn't lying. I've been putting a half-squirt in their water dish, and no problemo! They didn't shudder and run away, so that's good. They both are fine with it. I was expecting that they'd despise this, but I lucked out. While I don't know what your cats will think, I can tell you that my cats are pickier than other cats we know (and love). I will post here again in a few months about the efficacy. I'm trying to prevent expensive dental treatments, so we'll see if this helps. My cats will NOT let me examine their teeth, so there's no way for me to tell how well this is working right now. I'll let my vet tell me if she thinks their teeth look better. This is a veterinarian-approved product and is made in the USA, so I'm somewhat comfortable with the ingredients. It has rosemary extract in it, so I'm shocked that my Picky Petunias will drink it. The bottle this comes in is very small, but it will last a long time with cats, because you use 1 pump per 2 cups, or a 1/2 pump per cup. Hopefully this will prevent two $250 dental cleaning and anesthesia treatments for my two little felines! Update: 4/6/11 At a routine check-up for one of my cats today, the vet thought that her teeth looked good. Will post again if something changes. ... show more

  • Excellent, Helps dog and puppy odor better than expected.
My vet suggested this when I asked about our Yorkies breath. We adopted her from ARF she was a little over a year old and hair and teeth were neglected. Her breath was so bad that just sitting in my lap it was so strong. I tried dog toothpaste to brush on the tartar and clean her teeth better, which her teeth looked better but it did not help her breath. Her vet suggested the Biotene and I said I would consider it, the vet said to be sure and give her fresh bowl of water each day and pump a couple of drops in it, that is was no flavor and my dog would not taste it. Well after a few days I looked for it here on amazon, I ordered, got fast shipping ( the price was less here than from vets office) I have been using it since. IT IS A WELCOME CHANGE! I noticed within a week that her breath was not near the strength is was before and after a few weeks she was down to what I call just plain doggie breath. THis was a much better alternative than putting her to sleep to have teeth cleaning considering I still brush her teeth periodically have her on better nutritional food and continue to use the biotene. I use it in her water twice week now. This little bottle will go a long way. It only takes a couple of drops. If you love your little dog like I love mine you will find this is well worth trying, it is safe, tastless in water and almost eliminates bad doggie breath. ... show more

  • Amazing!
This is an amazing product. I had a large dog for over a decade and his teeth were always in great shape. I call that luck of the genes. I adopted a miniature poodle and realized with the same care, his teeth, at 3, were starting to look pretty dingy. After a few weeks using this product, his teeth are sparkling white! This made a huge difference. Honestly, I didn't think I would be able to tell so quickly. I had one episode of a cough and realized I had put too much in the water. I'm sure some dogs could be more sensitive than others. My vet assured me there is nothing in this product that can harm them. I know there are less expensive ones on the market - I have tried them. I am coming back to Biotene for 2 reasons - 1, I love the pump, it's SO much easier and 2, I don't think the other ones compare in quality. I would buy a pump for the cheap stuff, but it just isn't living up to Biotene's quality. Highly recommended. Edit 10/21/12 - Cost: this product actually costs LESS than the much larger competitor product. I measured out what you use with this vs the other mouthwash looking product and this is cheaper. 2 pumps (1/4 tsp) of Biotene per 4 cups while the other uses a 1 tsp per cup. Just an FYI, it may appear to be more expensive but do your math on the serving size. ... show more

  • Defective pump.
Thanks to Amazon, the product arrived in a timely manner. The product itself, however, was a waste of money since it is not usable. The top "spigot" part of the pump apparatus has no hole in it for the liquid to be pumped out. The end of it, where there should be a hole, was solid plastic. I removed the white "spigot" to inspect the inside of it and sure enough, there was no hole on the inside either. It was no more than a cap shaped like a "spigot". I have no idea how much of the additive to put into the water since the directions call for 2 "pumps" per 4 cups of water. No administration amount, such as milliliter or teaspoon, was provided. If I had that information at least I could pour it out of the bottle into something to measure the dosage. Pretty expensive product for such poor manufacturing quality control. Obviously, I can't really rate the effectiveness of this product. Followup Review: I contacted the manufacturer through their website (Pet King)regarding the above-mentioned issue. I emailed a copy of this review to them through their "contact us" link. They replied in less than 24 hours offering an apology. They also offered and sent a replacement product at no charge. I received the new bottle just a couple days later. I have since changed my original 1-star rating to a 3-star rating because of the excellent customer service. As far as the effectiveness of the product, I will revisit this review after I have used it for a time and get an opinion of my dogs' teeth from their veterinarian. ... show more
