REally loving this. Lengthy so you don't have to worry so much it will not fit. The one thing I have to share though is that the lock itself is strong but it can get difficult or tedious to unlock and open or close when your hands aren't free. We have young grandkids, lots of stairs in our home a two level deck and a hot tub....these gates are great! They take up almost no room when open and the grey color looks nice with our house trim color. It takes two hands to open or close which keeps curious toddlers and preschoolers safer. Nice to have the area clear when we don't need them and ko need to store those hilly gates we used 30 years ago when our kids were small. ... show more

This is a very attractive retractable barrier. Installation was a breeze. Materials and construction seem good. The way this deploys, connects, and retracts is a bit goofy, though. This is not a one-hand job. I imagine the mechanism was designed for safety but in order to disengage the locking mechanism to retract (open) the gate, you need to twist and hold the lock then with your other hand slightly extend the gate to disengage the latch. Not a big deal if both hands are free but otherwise completely inconvenient. Plus, because this is a vinyl screen material and not rigid, disengaging the lower latch sometimes even requires a foot, too. So with 2 hands and 1 foot available this thing is great (ha!). It is quite nice, though, and we will get used to it’s quirks eventually I imagine. ... show more

    • Works well for what it's designed for.
I was looking for a gate to keep my puppies out the dining room. This work very well until they learned to jump over it and landed on it and ripped it apart. If your dog isn't a jumper this would work great. Installation was very easy. I do think that one drawback is that it requires two hands to operate. You can pull the gate closed and latch it with one hand but it takes another hand to keep it unlocked. Generally when I was going through the gate I would have my hands full so I'd have to sit things down, close the gate, and pick the items up again. Overall, it did what it was supposed to do and I'm satisfied with the purchase. ... show more

It's about what you would expect from a mesh gate. One of the screws on the end that you pull to secure to the other side sheared off, but it still holds to the hook. I works most of the time to keep the dogs out, and all of the time for the 2 year olds(for now lol). I have 3 of these and only one had the screw shear off the bottom. I would only use these gates with toddlers/babies if they are supervised. They can never replace a nice solid gate, but they do work. Easy set up, sturdy, and does its job. ... show more

    • Keep looking, this ain't it: Quite possible the worst install experience ever

I'm an engineer by trade, and comfortable with a set of tools and around the house. This product has one of the worst install experiences I've ever experienced. There is almost no tolerance built into the vertical alignment of the frame on the "gate side" of the installation. They clearly were aware of this as they provide a template to aid in installation. Which would be great, if the template was even CLOSE to remotely correct. Following their template I was unable to install the top latch of the gate. The bracket sat too low when installed as directed and did not engage with the gate enough to where a small amount of wiggling was able to dislodge it, rendering the whole gate useless. Even better, the template is not only incorrect, but incorrect just enough that it is not possible to drill new holes to correct the issue, as they are too close to the template guided holes. This has left me with gaping holes in the wall that even when filled with spackle, are not strong enough to safely support the gate. I'm likely going to have to remove an entire square of drywall to fix the issue. On top of that, the instruction manual is not well done. The mounting brackets are shown using the black hardware, with horrible contrast and angles selected, making it very difficult to determine the correct orientation of the hardware in different arrangements. Additionally if you do intend to attempt this harrowing installation, DO NOT USE the included wall anchors. The recommended drilled hole size is extremely tight. They are incredibly hard to install into the wall as a result, which is exacerbated by the fact that the anchors are abnormally long. Anchors from Harbor Freight performed significantly better, and that's an incredibly low bar. On top of the above nightmare of installation, the gate does not have a handle for easy operation. The previous model did and it makes operation of the gate infinitely easier. The "new and improved" arrangement makes grabbing the gate a pain in the butt as it is slightly rolled up into the spool mechanism on the gate side. It also makes grabbing the gate to remove it from the latch more challenging as well, as there is nothing to grab. The "handle" is engaged on the latch and leaves only the mesh gate as a grab point. I'm assuming it was removed to reduce the cost of production instead of actually improving the operation product, because logically I can't see how this arrangement is better than the older model. ... show more
