I ordered this one and another of a different style/brand. I received them a day apart, receiving this one first. This one was absolutely lovely and soft. When i received the 2nd one I was all, "oh hail no" because it was as if there was a rope fishing net inside of the blanket and couldn't imagine sleeping with the thing and promptly returned it. THIS blanket, based on another review, I expected it to be extremely loud and crunchy. I disagree. It's more on the thin side, but very soft. Is there a layer of something between the fabric? Yes. But it is definitely NOT loud and obnoxious. For sure extremely tolerable. (I think I have experienced hotel sheets waaaay louder and crunchier than this). I have found, for me, i appreciate this layer of whatever it is, as once i have built up some warmth beneath the blanket... it tends to keep the warmth in so I stay toasty. I go in to my room about 45 minutes before bedtime, turn both sides of the blanket on to about 5-6... and when i get in bed... OMG it feels FANTASTIC. I HAVE figured out, though, that when i get in bed.. i DO need to turn both sides down to 1 or so as, if left turned up higher, i do end up roasting. There are two power controllers and a large power supply. I sort of feel these are a "necessary evil" so to speak. Not sure how you get around that. I recall the same with the blanket I had years ago. Not a deal breaker for me. I appreciate that the wires within the blanket are very non-noticeable. NOTHING like the one that I returned, lol. I find that I am really liking this blanket. It's soft... does the trick and I have no complaints. Will it last forever? Most likely not. I expect it may be a season to season thing, possibly two seasons. Now, everybody is different... this blanket didn't work out for the other person.     • Why do blanket manufacturers not create great electric blankets?
I had done extensive research on electric blankets before selecting this one. Every electric blanket from every manufacturer seems to have 20% or more of the blankets not functioning, not heating completely, having spotty heating etc. This blanket had upon opening the package, one side that did not work at all (electric controller lit up but it did not heat). The other side heated up mildly as if on a low setting, while set to high. That was after 15 minutes. Having read all of the reviews, I just gave up and I am returning this blanket to Amazon. In my opinion Amazon should start an inspection program to make sure that products are up to specifications before selling them. Products that consistently have malfunction rates in the 20% range should not be sold. I also think that the malfunction rate is under reported because many of these blankets fail early. Until the malfunction rate, (short and long term) is under 5% consistently these products in my opinion should not be sold. Amazon customer reviews are consistent with ratings in other locations on the web. Consumer Reports has not done a review of electric blankets in over 10 years. What is really sad about this, is the problems are consistent across name and non name brands. What is even worse is that this is not a high tech product, nor is it a new product. Electric blankets have been around for 40 or 50 years. So why is no one manufacturing a properly performing unit? There is a great market need for a blanket that has a longevity guarantee of 10 years, heats evenly, turns off after 10 hours automatically, doesn't have spotty heat, heats to the set point on the controller within 5 minutes, is in a blanket that breathes, so as not contain moisture, has electronic controls that are easy to see at night without glasses is safe to have the wire to the blanket run between the foundation and mattress (so the cords are not a trip hazard at the foot of the bed), is ultra reliable, and doesn't over heat or melt a controller, is UL listed, and will fit in a blanket cover without sliding out or bunching up. It is just astonishing that all of the same problems are occurring with all manufacturers as though they were being manufactured by the same factory overseas, with all of the same quality control problems. I am giving up on electric blankets until the marketplace fixes itself. Reviews going back over the past 5-6 years are pretty consistent with the same complaints. It is just not worth the headache of going through all of the research time to try to find a blanket or brand that actually works and meets, let alone exceeds expectations. For those who have written positive reviews, it would be useful to know if you still have the same opinion of your blankets 1,2, 3 and 5 years later. I am guessing not based on an extrapolation of what I have read. Buyer beware for this and all similar products. ... show more

    • Great Electric Blanket

I have ordered four of these. One for our bed, one for another bed in our house, one for a friend as a gift, and another as a replacement for ours in the Master Bedroom. These are great electric blankets. Ours quit in certain zones on the left side but I in no way consider that the fault of the blanket. We have two 130-pound dogs that love to romp around on the bed when they get a chance in the evenings and I don't think anything could stand up to that for very long. However, it did last through a lot of dog play before it went bad in those few zones. The reason we bought this type of blanket in the first place was because it is low voltage so that if anything did go haywire, nobody would get electrocuted. At Bed, Bath, and Beyond, anything anywhere near this is a full 110-volt and is about $50.00 more in price. Plus, it has dual side controls so my wife and I can have whatever temperatures we like on each side without disrupting the other's side and therefore we both sleep better. The timers work great and we have one affixed to each night stand with velcro so they do not keep falling off all the time. The timers work well and shut off automatically after 10 hours as advertised. So, in effect, you can turn it on at 8:00 p.m. and by 10 or 11 when you go to bed it is nice and toasty. Then it shuts itself off when you get up to go to work and you don't have to worry whether you forgot and left it on after you leave the house. Also, in the cold weather my knees constantly ache, as does my back. However, this blanket can get so warm if you want it to on its highest setting that when I get under the electric blanket it feels like instant relief throughout my back and legs.
