  • Thank you, Pentair!
Size: 30' long hose
After 3 frustrating years owning a 3-wheeled Polaris (which was HIGHLY recommended by the pool company) I finally bought a Legend LL505G. What a difference!!! If the Polaris hit a wall at a certain angle it would grind along the bottom of the wall and then get stuck in a corner. I even saw, more than once, where the backup valve pulled it out of the corner, but then it went back to the same wall and repeated the same process multiple times. I fiddled with the rear jet ad infinitum, ad nauseum, in fact, had someone from the pool company look at it, nothing worked. So I hate 3-wheeled pool cleaners! But this review is supposed to be about the Legend. Like most "dumb" pressure-side pool cleaners it does tend to spend more time in the deep end, but I see it in the shallow end MUCH more than the Polaris ever was, and 3 hours running in our large 30,000 gal pool gets it 98% clean. However, the Legend is very sensitive to the position of the rear jet. It needs to be pointed directly to the rear. Try very small adjustments if you want, but just a slight shift at a time. I found the easiest way to adjust it is with the booster pump off and the main circulating pump on. That way, you get a visible jet, but it's not shooting way off outside your pool. I hold the cleaner against the top of a wall and can then adjust the jet so it is parallel with the wall. However, after fiddling with it, I have mine pointing very slightly up and to the right. So far, I haven't seen the tail spray outside of the pool. And it has good pressure that keeps it moving from side to side. The bag is disappointing though -- I find it very difficult to remove the bag from the cleaner without bits falling out of the bag back into the pool. There is a rubber flap just inside the bag so I have found if I push that down over the opening before twisting off the collar it helps, and I do the whole operation under water and pull the bag out of the water collar end first. I wish they would offer a bag with a separate pocket like Polaris. That was the ONE thing I liked about the Polaris. Maybe I will try and cobble a Polaris bag onto the Legend collar. I would have given the Legend 5 stars except for the bag. The backup valve works just right. It has JUST enough pressure to get the cleaner out of a corner, but not too much like the Polaris. The Polaris rarely went in the shallow end, but often just as it did, the backup valve would activate and pull the darn thing half way across the pool away from where it needed to clean. I very rarely see the Legend stuck in a corner. My Polaris seemed to spend about half of its time stuck in a corner or grinding along the bottom of a wall. When I called their customer service, the guy I talked to couldn't have been more disinterested or unhelpful. I sent them an email and didn't even get a reply. So I am VERY happy with the Legend, but make sure you adjust the rear jet directly straight to the rear. ... show more

  • Hose change color after one day
Size: 30' long hose
The vacuum seems to run fast and can back off if it got stuck. The hose tends to tangle a bit after a while. So far so good. Big concern: I have salt water pool. We live in Houston and received the vacuum in hot August day. The hose has two part: clear tube and non-transparent white tube. After 1 day use, the white tube part changed into yellow. Now after 2 days, it's very yellow. Is it normal? Is the hose damaged by the salt water? What happened? ... show more

  • Works great and doesn’t get tangled up like the 3 wheeler Polaris
Size: 30' long hose
Works great! The hose doesn’t get tangled up like the 3 wheeled Polaris did. Hose is long enough to go up my stairs and it doesn’t get stuck either.

After reading the mostly positive reviews on here I purchased the LL505G Kreepy Krauly (Mar 14, 2017). It arrived in three days (with Prime), in perfect shape, and I got it installed this past weekend. This cleaner replaced a similarly designed 10+ year old Pentair Letro Legend Platinum which came with the pool, but whose glory days were now memories. In the Letro's healthier years I was happy with its service, and always liked the four-wheel design, versus three on Polaris models. The Letro rarely tipped on its side unless the ballast-bulb needed replacement or the debris bag was too full. One of my concerns, based on some reviews here, was the ability of the LL505G to climb the steep incline in my pool, where it transitions from deep to shallow ends. The older Letro had two jets in the back to assist its climb, compared to only one on the LL505G, yet it still became challenged with cleaning sections of the shallow end (especially as it aged). I was concerned that the LL505G’s single jet would not be sufficient for the task (or would it?..read on..). The package arrived with everything necessary; the Kreep Krauly cleaner, 30ft of feeder hose with floats, a debris bag, and the wall fitting valve (booster pump sold separately). Since the Amazon description does not include a full contents listing, I mistakenly bought an extra wall fitting valve, since it was “recommended” under the “Frequently bought together” category below the LL505G. Don’t make that mistake. The valve, btw, is a step-up from its predecessor (Letro era) in that it has quick disconnect ability that allows easy access to the filter screen inside (which I never knew existed, so didn’t know to keep clean). The feeder hose(s) need to be custom fit (cut) to accommodate individual pool dimensions. In that regard, I mostly followed the detailed instructions that came with the LL505G, and it took me about an hour. However, following the instructions, the hose would have ended up four feet shorter than the older cleaner hose, so I split the difference and kept an extra two feet, just to assure it wouldn't come up too short. It can be trimmed later if necessary, but I like the way it turned out. Once installed, and booster pump engaged, the LL505G took off running. Compared to my elder Letro, this cleaner ran like a fit teenager, doing acrobatics that the Letro had forgotten long ago. It traversed the steep pool incline reasonably well, in large part due to its front-wheel drive, and although it still prefers the deep end (gravity), it covers all parts of the pool (even hopping onto the steps occasionally, crazy kid). It climbed walls to the water line, which the Letro never did, and the tail wagged like a happy puppy as it churned and loosened winter sediment that had collected on the pool bottom. Ah, youth! While I worked elsewhere in the yard, it zig-zagged around the pool trying to impress me, and within a few hours it had sucked up all the pool-bottom debris (silt, sand, and leaves). Although I've only run it once so far, my new pool buddy definitely earned its Scooby snack on its maiden voyage. I expect it will live up to the "Legend" of its predecessor. Thumbs up! ... show more
