  • Good reel at a good price.
Style: Wrath Ii - New Model Size: 4000
This is really a pretty good option. The reel has proven plenty durable for pier and surf fishing, size 4000. I just make sure to rinse it under fresh water every day. I caught a few average sized whiting and a small shark. I have no complaints.

  • Penn Wrath 2 400 reel is amazing.
Style: Wrath Ii - New Model Size: 4000
I credit this spin reel for me being able to bring in a near 40 lb king salmon in Alaska on 20 lb braided line & 12 lb leader. I was using a telescopic rod that wasn't the best. This Penn wrath 2 400 reel was so nice and smooth with great drag that saved my rod. I've been fishing 60 yrs & I love this reel. ... show more

  • Best Low End of Penn Spinners!
Style: Wrath - Old Model Size: 2500
I have to start by saying that this is the entry level for PENN Spinning Reels and I sincerely believe it’s the “The Best Buy For The Money” compared with other models and other name brand reels. This Wrath 2500-8000 is in my opinion “The Best Buy” for my money, bar none. A couple months ago I ordered the Wrath 2500, 4000, 8000 because the price. On the day I ordered, the prices were $29.99 for all sizes. Prices and stock fluctuate on all Reels due to the time of year or season. I also liked the specs that I downloaded from PENN.com and as importantly I have always loved the ease of ordering parts directly from PENN. I wasn’t disappointed from the first day. All three sizes are quiet and smooth. I use them for for saltwater bait and jerk casting in north Georgia to surf fishing down on the Gulf coast. I have caught just about everything possible from bluegill bream to catfish and carp. I have used the 2500 with a 4 lbs line for fly fishing with trout. The 8000 with 30 lbs test monofilament line, does well for big Cats in West Point Lake to Rays and Skates down on the Gulf of Mexico (it does well no matter what size and I really appreciate the weight and size of the 8000). These newly designed Penn WRATH spinners look nice with any color of line and rod but the ocean blue line really makes it look like a high dollar reel. Much more importantly, each size performs as well as any spinning reel I’ve owned for the price range. Saltwater but the is now my favorite. After looking at the diagrams of several reels in and above this price range of $30-$70, I concluded that Penn’s re-engineering has made this reel in the best class for both saltwater and freshwater spinners. (Lightweight saltwater for each size other than sizes 6000-8000). I tried to order a couple of 5000 or 6000 and another 8000 for weeks now but it’s been sold out, but Amazon has assured me that more is coming back in stock soon. I highly recommend the WRATH Spinner for a well designed, well built freshwater or saltwater reel. (By The Way - be sure to rinse off with tap water or hose after fishing in saltwater or brackish water.) ... show more

  • Nice little reel
Style: Wrath - Old Model Size: 2500
I am partial to Penn reels. Just like I am partial to Canon Cameras. There are a lot of good brands on the market. This is an inexpensive piece of equipment. I use it as a pack reel with a telescopic rod. I also switch it out to a works! It gets beat up, and still performs. Smooth action, long casts, tight drag. It's not a high end Penn, but it earns the brand. Put on a good braided line and she will get the job done. ... show more

  • Best reel for price
Style: Wrath Ii - New Model Size: 4000
The black look and lighter weight reel is perfect for a variety size of fish. From small bluegill to big catfish this reel did the job. The drag on this is super nice for letting bait sit and having fish take it or when you need to let fish run. Overall the perfect reel for the price.

  • Smaller than I expected, hopefully works for CA surf fishing
Style: Wrath Ii - New Model Size: 4000
I am old. For 50 years, I used mostly scuba or freediving to shoot fish in all parts of California and Hawaii. Now I have to stand on the beach and wade out. I left all my fishing gear in Hawaii and am starting fresh in the central CA coast. I have had at least 25 Penn reels (mostly jigmasters) in my life, including a few heavy duty ocean spinning reels for big tuna. I bought this based on the reputation of the manufacturer and its line capacity. I plan to surf fish for halibut and smaller things, pairing this with a 13 foot casting rod that can handle 6 ounces of lead. This reel is much smaller than I expected. I would not use it for fish bigger than 10 pounds, or when a smooth drag is crucial. Had I been at a brick and mortar store, I would have bought the 6000, which has about the same line capacity but is beefier. I am going to make this work because surf fish do not fight or have to be exhausted before landing. But the reel is small. If I go for tuna, I'll rent a rig. ... show more
