Penn's Squall II Levelwind Reels are meticulously designed for bottom fishing and wreck fishing. They've been revamped from the previous generation, offering a lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and powerful series. The HT-100 drag system delivers up to 33 lbs of drag, paired with a bronze main gear, stainless steel pinion, and a low 4.0:1-4.9:1 gear ratio, enabling these reels to handle substantial loads. Ideal for deep-water bottom fishing, these reels feature Penn's Fast Gear Access side plate for easy servicing, an additional shielded stainless steel ball bearing for a total of four, and a comfortable elongated rubberized football power knob. The clutch requires manual engagement, and the levelwind system operates even in freespool. The Squall II also boasts a loud clicker and a reduced reel foot size to fit most modern fishing rods. Solid reel. It has a graphite frame and side plates and will be good for fishing S.F. Bay or outside the gate for near coastal fishing. Of course the Penn International VISX Extreme is superior, but has many of the qualities. It’s a Penn. Good stuff. It has good line capacity and plenty drag to turn a fishes head and get his attention who’s the boss. It’s smooth and has a loud clicker even I can hear without my hearing aids on. 😂 Hey…for &200, not bad. Of course you can step up your game and get a VISX, but this 60 lever drag will get some big hogs on board just the same. Happy lip Hookin boys! Oh by the way, I bought the Penn Prevail iii 7ft 40-80 rod. Perfect match. It does have a gimbal butt as well as just pull cap off. The VISX is a different animal, high performance offshore reel. If you decide on that reel, I got mine, three of them, from Amazon as well. I would suggest purchasing a high end rod for VISX models. I went with Penn Carnage iii 7ft West Coast boats rods 40-80 for VISX 16’s. The VISX 20 (1) I bought the Carnage iii 7ft 60-100 boat rods. All from Amazon. 👍💕 ... show more

Bought to replace an old Penn Senator 113H that I had for over 30 years. Big step up over the 113H. Wasn't sure I'd like the level wind, but it's worked flawlessly so far. I primarily bottom-fish in the Gulf of Mexico, and I've pulled up 10+ lb grouper, big Amberjacks, and Cobia. Will likely replace some of my other conventional reels with this one. ... show more
