Penn's Squall II Levelwind Reels are meticulously designed for bottom fishing and wreck fishing. They've been revamped from the previous generation, offering a lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and powerful series. The HT-100 drag system delivers up to 33 lbs of drag, paired with a bronze main gear, stainless steel pinion, and a low 4.0:1-4.9:1 gear ratio, enabling these reels to handle substantial loads. Ideal for deep-water bottom fishing, these reels feature Penn's Fast Gear Access side plate for easy servicing, an additional shielded stainless steel ball bearing for a total of four, and a comfortable elongated rubberized football power knob. The clutch requires manual engagement, and the levelwind system operates even in freespool. The Squall II also boasts a loud clicker and a reduced reel foot size to fit most modern fishing rods. This is one of my favorite reels. Drag is smooth and I can really cast far without any birds nests. Quality Penn product I have caught quite a few fish with it and it has a great retrieve. Highly recommend this reel. The level wind is really nice you don’t have to use your thumb to keep the line even. It’s now been almost a year that I own this and I have used it for all types of fishing trips. Stripers, blues, blackfish, porgies, sea bass and fluke. This reel is truly great. I have been mostly using it on a medium action Penn Rampage jigging but they work great together. I also swap it out to my heavier rods as well because this reel has a powerful smooth drag and can handle the bigger fish…. Love it! I own a lot of different brands both name brand and some lesser named brands. This Penn is one of my best along with some Shimanos. Quality reel and works very well so far this season. I use several of these for trolling in brackish water. (Salt/fresh) Mine are rigged with 30lb mono line rigged with tandem and umbrella rigs. Catch 20-30inch Stripers with ease. Drag on these reels is smooth, and quick to apply. Highly recommend these to anyone trolling for big fish. Penn is supposed to be top notch. Maybe I received a defective one as my clicker is super hard and stiff to engage. I depend on my Clicker for cats. Casitibilty is decent but I might have to go back to my Original Shimano unfortunately.
