Used for casting from shore. I have a Penn Senator U.S.A, if you can spring for that for shore casting it’s worth it, but this also works fine as well. It’s a Penn senator- bullet proof solid design. This reel fits my ElectraMate deep dropping motors. Generally, these are decent reels, but not made quite as well as when they were made in the USA. Deep dropping is tough on a reel and they typically wear out after 3 or 4 years of use.

On last deep sea rockfish trip, my 18 year old grand daughter was using my 38 year old Penn Senator when it died. Found out I could have had it rebuilt, but bought a new one. Has a little better retrieve ratio,clean mounting system, looks like stronger handle and the strength of a Penn. Sure I have some Shimanos, and others but the Penn will always be on each trip.
