Well worth the price to have a travel outfit. Nice case that protects the rod very well. The Battle IV is a nice solid reel, and it came with an extra spool. I’ll be putting monofilament on one and braid on the other, making for adaptation to what’s needed for wherever you are fishing. The rod does not have the most consistent bend to it, but that’s the price you pay for having a portable three piece rod with two ferrules. I definitely recommend this outfit for it’s portability. It cost $15 more than reel alone. $15 for a case, three-piece rod, and extra spool was a bargain.

I’ve owned two PENN Battle III travel rods paired with 5000 reels and they’ve been rock solid for ocean fishing, so I decided to upgrade and add the Battle IV version to my lineup. Unfortunately, my experience with the Battle IV travel rod was extremely disappointing. On just the second cast—using a simple pompano rig—the tip snapped clean off. This wasn’t a heavy load or anything outside normal use, which makes the failure even more concerning. I’ve always trusted PENN gear for durability in saltwater, which is why this was such a letdown. In comparison, my Battle III travel rods have handled the same conditions without any issues and continue to perform great. Because of this experience, I’ll be sticking with the Battle III for ocean fishing. I actually had to grab a temporary replacement rod from Walmart just to finish my trip. Hoping this was just a one-off defect, but based on this experience, I can’t recommend the Battle IV travel rod for surf use.

I ordered this combo Penn Battle IV 6,000 plus Battle IV rod. I was scared to death with all the negative reviews on how amazon shipps, and all the damaged rods, but I ordered figuring I have all winter to get it replaced if broken or damaged. It was delivered In a big clear plastic bag.😮😲 the rod tip sticking out of top a bag.. omg I thought it has to be damaged.,To my surprise there was not one thing wrong with it. I was literally shocked, not a scratch, ding, or anything. The reel was wrapped in bubble rap it also was cleannnnn. It makes me wonder if they started shipping like that so the delivery crew could see what it was and take better care to not screw it up.. A big shout out to Amazon for extra care!! The rod looks Fantastic, and reel is smoothhhhh as butta..

Great Rod & Reel – Terrible Shipping The rod and reel arrived exactly as expected in terms of the product itself. We purchased this to replace the same rod that was broken on a trip, so we were already familiar with the quality. Penn makes a solid product and for the price point, the rod and reel perform exactly how they should. No complaints at all about the brand or the gear itself. Unfortunately, the shipping was very poor. The rod arrived in a ripped plastic bag with almost no protection. The rod and reel were separated, which I believe is how it’s designed to ship, so that part wasn’t an issue. However, the eyes on the rod were bent and had to be carefully adjusted back into place, and there was some cosmetic damage near the base of the rod. Luckily, everything was still usable and the rod works perfectly, but it could have easily arrived completely unusable with the way it was packaged and delivered. Product: 5 stars — great quality and exactly what we expected from Penn. Shipping/Packaging: 2 stars — very poorly handled. Buyer beware of the shipping. I feel fortunate the rod wasn’t damaged beyond repair

Wow! This setup was great for some surf fishing. Not too big, still got to have some good fights! Reel casted nice and smooth and the rod held up on a big bonnet head that ended up snapping my line in the last break. Only one I lost!
