With its full metal construction, buttery-smooth drag, and durable gear system, the Penn Fathom Lever 2-Speed Lever Drag Fishing Reel offers the performance you need for your next saltwater fishing adventure. Crafted from solid die-cast aluminum and packed with fish-fighting features, the saltwater reel is engineered to catch fish year after year. From the full metal body and side plate to the five shielded stainless steel ball bearings, each component is designed to help you land your catch. The fishing reel's stainless steel main and pinion gears are engineered for toughness and are drilled out to reduce weight without compromising strength or speed. The Quick Shift two- speed system allows you to instantly toggle between the high retrieval speed and the low cranking speed, so you can easily adapt to the movements of your prey. Switchblade harness lugs (available on 60 size only) provide added stability during vicious strikes and remain flush with the reel when not in use to ensure a comfortable grip. Its Dura-Drag system uses a special Phenolic bonding agent to prevent premature breakdown of the carbon fiber material, helping minimize erratic pulls and jerks to ensure silky-smooth drag--even during the most grueling battles. And thanks to its line capacity rings, the spool displays at a glance how much line is remaining.

I fish a lot. All over the world. Hooked a 40 Kilo Dogtooth Tuna on this reel (25N) and it performed exceptionally. Everything smooooth, solid, sturdy; this reel gives me a lot of confidence. After several trips and several Wahoo, Dogtooth, Black GT, Yellowtail, Yellowfin, Rainbow Runners, Spanish Macrkeal, etc, I can tell you I won't fish with any other reel if the rod with this reel is available. I also have the smaller size (12), but for fish over 10 kilos, you want the 25N. The narrow reel is sure nice for jigging. My one complaint is that the reel retrieves line so fast and so effortlessly while jigging that you sometimes burn your fingers on the braided line. If you are fishing for saltwater fish between 5-40 Kilos and you enjoy live bait fishing and jigging, this is absolutely the reel you want. ... show more

This is the third of this reel that I’ve bought. Initially got one for husband to fish grouper in the Gulf. He loved it so much he said I needed one. And then we bought an extra for my 92 year old Dad to use. This reel for the money is a workhorse! It makes reeling in a dandy grouper a piece of cake with two gear options, often surprising us with the size of the fish when it gets to the surface. This is a great reel for the money, and should handle pretty much anything from striped bass to small tuna. There is a little bit of play in the handle, but it's only about 1mm, and the button used to switch the cranking power isn't as nice as some higher priced reels, but it works well. One major thing to be aware of is that Penn's own website lists the capacity at 395 yards of 65lb braid. I just had mine filled at a very respected pro shop with 65lb Diawa J Braid metered braid (.016 inch/0.41mm diameter) and it was full to the top of the spool at 300 yards. In the answered question on this pagel, ricardo hill states his holds 300 of 65 and 75 yards of 40lb mono. Either his reel was filled past the spool diameter or it's wound VERY tight. Even so, 300yds of 65lb is plenty of line for everything but large gamefish. Can't wait to get it wet! ... show more

Great reel for the price. Used for offshore So. Cal fishing. Excellent free spool, smooth drags, and easy to use 2 speed. This is the 2 speed model and is fairly light weight when compare to expensive higher end 2 speed reels. The reel is smooth and quiet, easy to cast live bait or jigging, or just dropper loop for deep water rock fish. Deep spool can handle ample amount of mono line or 50 to 65lb spectra. This is my Go-To reel for yellowtail fishing. Anyone who caught yellowtail know they fight like hell. This reel allowed me to bring in a 23 pound YT easily enough. It's lever drag and clicker worked beautifully. Ramping up the drag during the fight was very smoothly handled. Switching to and from low gear was flawless even during the heat of battle. I kinda want to buy another.... But I have yet to justify a second. Beautiful and well crafted reel. For its capability, it is fairly compact and light weight. Similar reels are bulkier and heavier with questionable performance. Mount it on a good quality rod and you are all set! Just need to get out there and hook up! ... show more
