Description

With its full metal construction, buttery-smooth drag, and durable gear system, the Penn Fathom Lever 2-Speed Lever Drag Fishing Reel offers the performance you need for your next saltwater fishing adventure. Crafted from solid die-cast aluminum and packed with fish-fighting features, the saltwater reel is engineered to catch fish year after year. From the full metal body and side plate to the five shielded stainless steel ball bearings, each component is designed to help you land your catch. The fishing reel's stainless steel main and pinion gears are engineered for toughness and are drilled out to reduce weight without compromising strength or speed. The Quick Shift two- speed system allows you to instantly toggle between the high retrieval speed and the low cranking speed, so you can easily adapt to the movements of your prey. Switchblade harness lugs (available on 60 size only) provide added stability during vicious strikes and remain flush with the reel when not in use to ensure a comfortable grip. Its Dura-Drag system uses a special Phenolic bonding agent to prevent premature breakdown of the carbon fiber material, helping minimize erratic pulls and jerks to ensure silky-smooth drag--even during the most grueling battles. And thanks to its line capacity rings, the spool displays at a glance how much line is remaining.

  • Great reel
Style: 40n Pattern Name: Fishing Reel
I love this reel...been playing monsters with it for almost a year and haven't been defeated yet. I like it better than my 50vsw but you should buy a replacement t handle if you plan on catching monsters. It's not nessicary just makes it more comfortable.

  • I've bought several of these Fathoms. Only one had an issue but it still caught fish.
Style: 15 Pattern Name: Fishing Reel
I've purchased several of these Fathoms to upgrade my tackle from older Penns and Newells. All have been great except one, a 15 which wasn't shifting consistently into low gear. Initially I thought this particular reel needed to be "broken-in". Thus I used this particular 15 on one trip with 25# mono topshot. Other than the shifting which sometimes needed coaxing into low range, the reel worked very well easily handling several yellowtail and larger grade 15# bonito. Of course one could argue the need for a two speed reel with 25# line because it is almost like cheating to winch in the fish when it's at 'color'. While I was quite pleased with this particular reel overall, however after the trip I considered having this reel sent in for warranty or having it replaced under warranty. I opted for the easier option to replace it. The replacement Fathom 15 shifts flawlessly like all the others I have. Now I've noticed the price has gone down considerably for the original version "15" so get one while you still can. I intend to fish my 15s with 20# and 25# due to their limited line capacity. I should mention I use a 25N with 30# mono. ... show more

  • Fathom I vs Fathom ii
Style: 30 Pattern Name: Fishing Reel
So on the left is gen 1 and tp the right, gen ii 30ld’s. It depends on what kinds of reel meets your needs. I love Penn products. I have 2 Penn International VISX Extremes and one VISX 20’s, Squall I’d and Battle iv dx’s. All great reels imo. I’m gonna return these and I just bought 2 Talica 16iiA’s. So here’s my .02 on Fathoms 1 and 11. I’ll pass for my own reasons. Personally, I liked gen I better. It felt tighter. It didn’t have a plastic lever as you can see on gen ii. Gen i is composite graphite frame. Gen ii cast aluminum. It’s not an offshore tell so whatever you like better. Gen ii does have a t-bar handle, but it seemed sloppy with play in it. But if these meet your fishing needs, they are decent, mid-grade to entery level reels. One thing I didn’t like at all on Gen ii I noticed it had a plastic gear box inspection plate. That was a turn off. Anyway boys, whatever way you go, have fun and hook some lip…😀 ... show more

  • Best reel I’ve owned in a long time
Style: 30-left Hand Pattern Name: Fishing Reel
This has to be the best purchase I’ve made in a while since my purchase of my Shimano Baitrunner reel. I was looking for a lever drag reel that was left hand retrieve, I have an older Penn 330Gti and a grouper I caught recently actually was peeling line off of that reel with the drag cranked all the way down. But I couldn’t really find a good lever drag reel that I was happy with as I prefer LH retrieves, then a buddy on the Tampa Bay Fishing Club recommended this beauty to me. So glad I took his advice, the day I received it, I removed my Penn Rival 20 from its Rival 7’ rod and put this reel on it. Put some mono backing and 65 lb Power Pro braid on, went out and tested it. Love the casting and reeling with it, I wish they had level wind but oh well I’ll get adjusted to it quickly. Now I just need to break that new reel curse and catch something on it. This reel is very smooth reeling, love the 2 speeds of it and how well it fits on my rod. I did use the back mounting plate from my Penn Rival instead of the included one, only because the one from the Rival has a hook holder built into it. Be sure that if you purchase this reel, that you 1. Know how to cast a bait caster style reel, but keep in mind these spools are much larger and spin more freely. 2. Be prepared for backlash/birds nests. 3. You know that these do not have levelwind and you have to guide the line manually to spool it level. ... show more

  • Reel Deal
Style: 25n Pattern Name: Fishing Reel
I fish a lot. All over the world. Hooked a 40 Kilo Dogtooth Tuna on this reel (25N) and it performed exceptionally. Everything smooooth, solid, sturdy; this reel gives me a lot of confidence. After several trips and several Wahoo, Dogtooth, Black GT, Yellowtail, Yellowfin, Rainbow Runners, Spanish Macrkeal, etc, I can tell you I won't fish with any other reel if the rod with this reel is available. I also have the smaller size (12), but for fish over 10 kilos, you want the 25N. The narrow reel is sure nice for jigging. My one complaint is that the reel retrieves line so fast and so effortlessly while jigging that you sometimes burn your fingers on the braided line. If you are fishing for saltwater fish between 5-40 Kilos and you enjoy live bait fishing and jigging, this is absolutely the reel you want. ... show more
