    • Expensive but worth it
I grabbed this to use for some clips of my VW bus on road-trips and it definitely is strong enough to trust especially since my vehicle is all steel. I will probably use this more often as base to mount my iPad Pro to, just need to find a good articulating mount to adapt to it

    • Strong magnets create no concern over possibility of falling off in motion
I drove around with this mounted on the outside of a vehicle, both on the hood and the side door and never had any issues. It would be nice if the knob had a better grip like the GoPro screws, but it's still good. I recommend.

I got this to record track days and autocross for my ND2 Miata RF. First impressions of the mount are good. The magnets seem very strong and the pads are soft but thin. The thin pads are probably needed to allow the magnets to get close enough to the metal for a good hold. The pads are rubber and grippy. The metal “bridge” between the magnets is perfect for prying the mount off. The ball head mount for the GoPro is a bit cheap. Though it doesn’t need to be a massively strong piece as it only has to hold a few ounces of camera. I suspect it would hold a small point and shoot camera that can do video but mounting a DSLR or even a Mirrorless is out of the question as the ball head mount is just too small for that kind of application. Plus the tightening screws are not in very good locations and you can’t get the main one very tight. The secondary screw you need to use the smaller of the two supplied alan keys. That one you can can, obviously, get nice and secure. The two supplied GoPro mounts are perfect fits but not sure why you would want to use the plastic one when the metal one is so much stronger. The tether is a nice touch and if you can secure one end to something solid, I’m sure it would hold the mount and GoPro if the magnets should lose their grip. I do not want to actually test this. The mount works great. Solid and secure and with the tether it should meet nearly all regulatory requirements for track days and autocross. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Our application is to use the Pellking magnetic mount to hold a GoPro on a side of the Jeep. We tested the hold strength of the mount and came away very wary it would hold a camera from falling off when on a rough road and the camera is bouncing up and down. Watch our video and read on for our test results. -- Marginally Strong: With the mount attached to the door of the Jeep, we pulled on the mount until it broke loose. The mount would initially slide then break loose. I'm just no sure I would trust it to hold an expensive camera especially if the camera is mounted on an extension and effectively multiplying the weight of the load. See the attached video. -- Measured Hold Strength: Using a force gauge, we pulled down on the mount. We found the mount would release at 12Kg or 26.4 pounds. Intuitively I just dont trust it to hold up on a rough road especially with a load extend out on an arm which multiplies the weight of the camera. . -- Embedded Magnets: The magnets are embedded or molded into a larger rubber disk. I dont think they are neodymium as if they were the hold strength would have been much stronger. The rubber body is nice in that will will help keep the paint from scratching. Conclusion: The only way to determine if this mount will hold up on a rough road and a camera extended on a boom is to try it. But for me its not worth the risk. My experience is that a large suction cup on glass will provide greater holding strength then this magnetic mount. Great mount for they money. Worked very well offroading. Everyone in the group was impressed how it held up. Came slightly loose after a day of wheeling. I just had to tighten one of the adjustments back up.
