  • For the price: really decent. No noticeable performance issues for my use.
Size: N100/16GB+512GB
I had been looking at minicomputers for some time. I have a MSI laptop that I had gotten to play games which was then what you needed for a VR system and then Meta Quest came along, so I never used it once for that. So my nice laptop with a high res screen & keyboard sits closed, connected to a monitor/keyboard most of the time. My MSI is far from new and has had some hardware failures. Two fans had to be replaced and somehow I managed to break the HDMI connector. Luckily the C connectors can be used with a bridge as an HDMI input. But given this, my MSI may be not long for this world, so I was wondering if a mini computer would suit me. I know a minicomputer will be underpowered in comparison, so my boyfriend did some spec comparisons, to the MSI and his own HP laptop at CPUBenchmark. This MiniPC is an Intel 100 (2023), versus my MSI with an Intel Core i7-8750H (2018) and my boyfriend's 1 year old HP laptop at Intel Core i7-1255U (2022). I didn’t know what an Intel 100 was in comparison with the Core i7, but looking at the specs, there are things like Turbo speed, number of threads and Cache and you can pretty much see that this little computer is less than those other two. CPU Mark: Higher results represent better performance PELADN mini computer: 5619 HP i7-1255U: 13783 MSI: i7-8750H: 9941 While the HP is 3X, the MSI is 2X. However the question you might have does this matter? I suspect if you are doing a lot of processing or games, yes, but if you are cruising online reading email, Facebook etc, watching videos; maybe not. When you look at the CPU Mark/Price, that is where you see this unit shine. Clearly it blows the MSI out of the water as that is an expensive though old laptop, but the HP is blown away too. CPU Mark/Price: Higher results represent better value PELADN mini computer: 43.9 HP i7-1255U: 32.4 MSI: i7-8750H: 25.2 Of course this unit is also more power efficient, in that the monitor is not part of this profile, unlike the other two. SETUP & VIRUS CHECK My boyfriend recently had seen where someone had gotten a virus from a mini-computer and suggested that when we start this up, to use a guest network and not our normal Window’s sign in, so we took a roundabout way to get this unit going. I can say that so far, no viruses have been detected, using Windows defender, Avast and Malwarebytes. We assumed wrongly that we needed USB connected devices so scared up an old keyboard and mouse that was not strictly Bluetooth. The start up took about 6 minutes once we had everything connected. It seemed long, but I’m comparing this to a fully setup computer. I had attached the USB mouse and keyboard while it was booting up, so it did not find them. Turning off the computer (power button) and turning it back on fixed that. My mistake. We connected to our guest network and it checked for Windows updates. Once updates were done, a restart caused it not to connect and it took 3 tries before it did. Mind you, it dawned on me, we were fairly distant from the network connection, so that might have contributed. Of course you have to have or create an MS account and sign in with it. We made a separate one. Much of the delay was being over cautious. There were a lot of settings: Privacy, Customization, Use phone from your PC, Games and then checking for updates again. I forgot how many things you go over when you have a new PC. Mind you some of it was shear marketing like the Games. Then we did all the virus checks. Downloaded Chrome and we were good to go. This took a long time, as the scans checked everything. We got a clean bill of health, so likely will connect to our main network and logins. TRIED IT OUT AND COMPARED IT FOR MY USES TO MY CURRENT LAPTOP: I’ve tried it with some online videos and compared performance to my MSI. No difference. Mind you, this is just a video and not a sophisticated game. At this point I have it on my desk, attached to my HDMI port on my monitor, my keyboard has 3 possible inputs at the push of a button and so does my mouse. All I have to do to switch from the MSI to the PELADN, it turn it on and the monitor self switched, and I push the buttons on my keyboard and mouse. Voila, different computer. Thinking how much work that used to be years ago, shows me how far technology has come. For my purposes it is a very good deal. ... show more

  • It’s difficult to believe this little box is a full blown PC….
Size: N100/16GB+512GB
First off, I will not be reciting all the specs in this review when they are readily available in the product description. This little device is an actual Windows PC. If you are short of desk space, this will be perfect for you. I had a spare 15” monitor and keyboard in my garage, and an old mouse my wife had tossed aside a few years ago—and that’s really all you need. Set up was a breeze, in fact the set up would be the same for a full size PC. After attaching my second hand peripherals, I powered it up and it went directly into setup and update mode. It was behind on a few of the updates, so it took a little while for them to download and install. After it was fully updated, it rebooted and I was all set. From then on, it has been just like having an actual desktop computer. Of course the performance is inadequate for gaming and other high end graphics apps, but for everyday computing this really makes sense if you’re on a budget. ... show more

  • A small inexpensive mini-pc
Size: N5095/16GB+512GB
This Mini-PC is powered by an Intel N5095 “Celeron” processor, which has 4 cores without Hyperthreading, so 4 cores with a total of only 4 threads. It has 16 Gigabytes of DDR4 RAM in two SO-Dimms, a 512 Gigabyte SATA SSD drive, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, a single Gigabyte LAN port, four USB3.0 ports and two full-size HDMI ports. It is cooled by a small internal cooling fan. The N5095 processor is very energy efficient, with a max TDP of only 15 watts. This allows the computer to run with minimal cooling, with the fan cycling on when needed. The small internal fan did a good job, with 40c CPU temps at idle and a stable 80c under a continuous 100% load for 20 minutes. I found fan noise not to be an issue, even under heavy load. The kit comes with a separate wall plug style power supply (12 volts @ 3 Amps) with a barrel style connector, an HDMI cable and a VESA mounting bracket. No keyboard or mouse is included in the kit. I had originally ordered this PC to be used as a streaming media player connected to a 65”- 4K TV. I found it a bit under-powered for rendering 4K video. The same videos streamed and output at 1080P played fine. It was able to do office tasks, emails, stream audio, and surf the web, it certainly isn’t a speed demon, but that is to be expected at this price point. It generated an overall Passmark score of 982.7 on the first run connected to a 1080P monitor, and a score of 708 connected to a 4K monitor after Windows update did its thing. The low-power graphics of the N5095 CPU pulled the score down, the other components scored well, with decent memory and SSD speeds. Speaking of SSD, it has M.2 SATA storage, which performed well, with speeds typical of SATA SSDs, with sequential reads around 550MB/s with 442MB/s sequential writes. The PC comes with Windows-11-Pro, which I prefer over the “home” version. There was no bloatware or extra applications on the system I received. I ran extensive malware and virus scans and monitored its network traffic and found nothing suspicious. Bottom-line: This is a small, compact, inexpensive Mini-PC suitable for light duty applications as well as a home file/media server or home automation server. It struggles a bit when tasked with outputting 4K video, but performs other light duty computing tasks without issue. ... show more
