Having a wide open top makes getting my cats in the carrier for vet visits so much easier. The vet likes it too since coming at the cat from the top is less threatening to them than from the front. It's also really light weight which is good for my back. So far it's scratch proof as advertised, but we will see how well that holds up over time.

Very high quality and functional. Lots of mesh to allow air flow. Slightly heavy. I have a 20 pound cat and bought this carrier. I should’ve bought the medium size instead. Huge issue with the insertable base that the cat lays on. It’s fleece on one side and nylon on the other with 2 hard plastic inserts(sown inside), one for each half which allows it to fold up. So let’s say your cat urinates in the carrier on the fleece base. Because the hard plastic is sewn into the base you cannot throw the fleece into the washing machine. You also don’t have direct access to the plastic to hose it off. One mishap and your carrier forever smells no matter what type of urine neutralizer you use. My solution was to cut one end of the nylon on each half so I could slide the plastic out to clean it while washing the fleece in the washing machine.

My male cat is a buff 18 lbs. He butted his head through a flimsier carrier and escaped. He is adjusting well to the strength of this one. It is big enough that his much smaller friend can share the space. We love it.
