    • The price is steep, but it's so worth it ...
The price is steep, but it's so worth it. After experimenting and eventually settling on the right daily/nightly routine for my hormonal acne, this has been one of the most effective products I've used (and, damn, if I haven't tried nearly everything barring Accutane). The most noticeable difference that the BHA has made is clearing up all of my closed comedones (now the only time I'll notice one or two CCs is if I wear heavy makeup and neglect to remove it before going to sleep). I don't have experience using any other BHAs, I chose Paul's Choice for its reputation (shout out to r/skincareaddiction) and for its lack of alcohol. The first few days of testing it, I got a few intense pimples/nodules (some people will call this purging, although I think this just happens as your skin adapts to a new product), but a little bit of benzoyl peroxide to spot treat helped clear them up. My routine (for VERY oily skin): AM - Ortho Tri Cyclen - Splash face with cool/warm water, pat dry - CeraVe PM moisturizer (I've found the AM moisturizer doesn't sink in as well, likely due to the SPF*) - Sometimes benzoyl peroxide (Neutrogena 2.5%) for spot treatments (although I usually save this for nighttime) - Minimal makeup (concealer for spot covering and under eyes) PM - Wash with CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser (great for arms and back too) - BHA (3-4 nights in a row, then 1 day off), one or two pumps onto cotton ball, gently covering entire face - AHA (I use the Paula's Choice 8% AHA Gel) every other night or every two nights (30mins-1hr after the BHA) - Spot treat with benzoyl peroxide as necessary - Sometimes light coat of CeraVe PM moisturizer (30mins-1hr after BHA or AHA) For reference, I’m a female in my mid-20s who has been dealing with acne for 15+ years. I typically don’t eat dairy (except for my two weaknesses, chocolate and goat cheese) and I never eat meat. I also try to limit my sugar-intake (don’t get me wrong, I eat sugar just about every day, I just try not to eat it in excess). I drink lots of water (8-12 large glasses per day) and I exercise regularly. On average, I shower every other day using unscented bar soap and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. And I brush my teeth with sulfate-free toothpaste. *I'm in the process of finding the right daily sunscreen for my face, as it really is important in the health (and anti-aging) of skin. Been slacking on that one… The only drawback to BHAs is that they don't necessarily prevent breakouts for the long-term (the way that prescribed retinoids do); BHAs are meant more for regular use, but I’d gladly use this for the rest of my acne-prone life (which may be forever) if It meant getting the same results. ... show more

    • Skin is super smooth
Between this and the vitamin c one, my face has become so smooth and soft which at 44 I just could not get back again with regular means. I tired exfoliating which helped some but did not last. This I use a little every day and it’s kept my face smooth and I think it’s lightened some age spots. I like this brand of face products. Of course it’s not cheap but it’s you face baby.     • My favorite BHA for twelve years
I've been an admirer of Paula's since I read, "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me" in 2004. It was consciousness raising. She was an advocate for those of us who felt burned by beauty industry jargon and hype. My approach to choosing cosmetics was changed entirely and I became a label reader, able to tell on my own what works and what hurts. Her advice and recommendations have served both my skin and bank account well over the years since. Shortly after I discovered her published works I eagerly tested her own skin care line, Paula's Choice. It was really only then after being let down by the trendy ProActiv and even by my dermatologist, that the persistent cheek acne I'd had since I was 15 cleared up - and began to heal! 'Heal' is the key word. In the past it would abate for a little while, but a new round of acne always returned before the scarring faded. This pattern was unbroken until I became a regular user of the 2% BHA gel. I've tried them all - Paula's cleansers, moisturizers, toners, and serums - and this is the one I'm still buying twelve years on. At 31 I don't break out anymore, but I have to be vigilant about blackheads and sebaceous filaments on my now combination skin. Whenever I stray or skimp with an inferior product (mostly Neutrogena) I end up coming back. This stuff is that good and reliable, and I don't think the ingredients have ever been modified.     • After the peeling, your skin is beautiful!!
I have severe hormonal and cystic acne since 2018. This is a new pleasure in my life to deal with in my forties. The acne has caused severe acne scars all up my cheeks, and some on my forehead and chin. I’ve been on prescription meds to help with the acne, and it’s all been really slow to work. In the meantime, I’m trying new stuff to help along the skin renewal process as much as I can. Cons: product will cause SEVERE dryness and peeling. I started using once a day and ended up with skin so dry it hurt when I put on moisturizer. So went to every other day and same problem. I now use once a week and don’t have the dryness. Also, your skin is going to PEEL. Like, really PEEL. I can’t wear makeup when using this product becUse if the severe peeling. Makeup just looks freakish. Pros: after the peeling, your skin is going to to look STRAIGHT UP AMAZING. A new layer of skin is exposed and the dark spots left by the acne scarring is improved. Stay with the product and use it consistently (I’m still at one a week) and you really will love the results. It won’t do anything to prevent the acne itself, but it will help bring about more beautiful, healthy looking, bright skin! ... show more

    • Beware..may cause increase in breakouts
Not sure if this product is to blame but my daughter's cystic acne became so much worse after using this product for a few days. I had read this in some of the reviews but thought we would try for ourselves. Take caution
