These might be the perfect pencil. 0.9 lead is thick enough that it doesn't easily snap if you press too hard. The barrels hold a lot of lead and it has the side button gives you the quick easy-advance. The grip has textured rubber so it doesn't slip when you're sweating through a math exam. The best part of these pencils, though, are hands-down the huge soft eraser. Its soft enough it doesn't tear the paper and erases easily and they are massive, so they are useful a lot longer than those little nubs on the old style mechanical pencil. These are my favorite. The lead is thick enough not to break easily but thin enough to look tidy when used for writing. The grip is nice and easy on the hands. The eraser twists up and erases well. It is a bummer that the give you so many refills with the set but isn’t available separately.

Only company that makes a mechanical pencil with .09 lead that is mostly sturdy and comfortable to hold. My daughter only likes the .09 lead. It’s not easy to find pencil that take it. If the grip had more cushion it would be great! Also the clip at the top of the pencil tends to break, would be ok if they removed it completely from the design. ... show more

The best part of this pencil is the eraser, not only so you get extra ones, but the there is a mechanism that allows you to turn the halo around the eraser to make it come out more. This was you can use the entire eraser and not just the tip that sticks out. This also allows for a longer erase as you can see, so it last longer before you need to replace it. I use pencil in all my classes (5 college classes in which one includes calculus--a lot of erasing there!) and I can go almost the whole 4 month semester on a single eraser! I bought this back and have used it for 3 semesters so far. The only down side is that sometimes when I'm erasing, the mechanism twists back around and so, the eraser goes back into the pencil (since there is not a lock to prevent the twisting) The pencil is also very comfortable to write with. ... show more
