These might be the perfect pencil. 0.9 lead is thick enough that it doesn't easily snap if you press too hard. The barrels hold a lot of lead and it has the side button gives you the quick easy-advance. The grip has textured rubber so it doesn't slip when you're sweating through a math exam. The best part of these pencils, though, are hands-down the huge soft eraser. Its soft enough it doesn't tear the paper and erases easily and they are massive, so they are useful a lot longer than those little nubs on the old style mechanical pencil. These are my favorite. The lead is thick enough not to break easily but thin enough to look tidy when used for writing. The grip is nice and easy on the hands. The eraser twists up and erases well. It is a bummer that the give you so many refills with the set but isn’t available separately.

As an former engineering student, convenience is king. Anything that I can do to make my life easier and more frictionless, I wanted it. With standard wooden pencils, their tips often break and you have to bring a sharpener with you. For tests or any major assessments, this is especially bad, because I tend to break the tips whenever I'm under a lot of stress. However, these mechanical pencils fix all of that. Not only are they super comfortable, but I love how thick the lead is! It's very, very hard to break because it's 0.9mm! Therefore, whenever I'm under a lot of stress, I don't have to worry about accidentally breaking the tip. Furthermore, as with all mechanical pencils, you don't have to worry about sharpening the pencil. All you have to do is make sure you have plenty of lead in this bad boy. And the erasers are great and glide across a sheet of paper! Overall, I find these mechanical pencils from Paper Mate to be some of the best ones on the market! If you've never used mechanical pencils like this, you are missing out. They are by far the best mechanical pencils I have used. The eraser design is great as you don't have to constantly be picking at the eraser to get it out - you just twist the top and it extends. The way you extract the graphite is also better than pushing on the top. In this design, whenever you go to erase you don't accidently also extend your graphite. Much better design than the cheaper options, and is definitely worth the extra money as these will last longer and give you less annoyance. ... show more

Only company that makes a mechanical pencil with .09 lead that is mostly sturdy and comfortable to hold. My daughter only likes the .09 lead. It’s not easy to find pencil that take it. If the grip had more cushion it would be great! Also the clip at the top of the pencil tends to break, would be ok if they removed it completely from the design. ... show more
