Self-centering, extra-wide opening jaws open a full 9 (228. 6mm) and hold heavy objects by centering weight over the base. Ribbed, neoprene jaw pads are 1. 875 (47. 6mm) high x 1. 5 (38. 1mm) wide and provide a sure grip; reverse the pads and the wide V holds round or elliptical objects. Double action jaws open/close quickly. Jaws can be reversed to provide zero closure. Black oxide coating reduces glare and promotes eye comfort. Compatible with all 300 series Bases. Head Length: 11. 5 (292. 1mm). Height (shaft to top of jaw pads): 5. 25 (133. 3mm), Weight: 1. 9 lbs. (0. 9kg). Limited Lifetime ! From the Manufacturer The PanaVise 376 self-centering extra wide opening vise head features jaws that open up to 9", allowing any existing 300 series PanaVise base (sold separately) to hold small or larger objects without the need to change heads. Vise jaws are individual L-shaped elements, secured to the head with two screws. This makes the jaws reversible, allowing for a true 'zero' closure required for very small items. Jaws are opened and closed via a "double- action" side crank mechanism that simultaneously moves both jaw ends towards each other, automatically centering them in the middle of the head. This ensures fast opening and closing, a good fit against held items, and concentration of the weight of items directly over the stem of the head, increasing the stability of the vise when working with heavier items. The unit ships with reversible/removable 1-7/8" neoprene jaw pads. One side of the pads has multiple grooves designed for flat surfaces, while the other side has a wide "V" groove to hold round or elliptical objects. To promote eye comfort jaws, guide rods and threads are treated with a black oxide coating to reduce glare in bright lighting conditions. SpecificationsHeight: 5-1/4" (133.3 mm)Weight: 1.9 lb. • Really? Slotted screws?
The item is exactly what I expected but it loses a star for Overall and Value because for something this nice I was expected hex-head screws to attach the heads. Nope, slotted. Really? SLOTTED. And even then they don’t appear to be stainless. Like putting bias-ply tires on a Porsche. Geez. Otherwise, a great vise. NOTE: Upon installation it was discovered that the slots are designed for a much, much larger than needed screwdriver. And when I went to buy some quality fasteners? Yep, non-metric. So inferior quality, inappropriately sized, non metric screws. My guess? Marketing was interfering with engineering. So this is definitely “Made in the USA”. ... show more

  • Dangerously Sharp Flashing - Poorly Finished - Unsafe Without Modification
I've wanted this vise for years and finally decided it was time to replace my 396 clamp. I was kinda excited to open the box, expecting another high-quality product from PanaVise, something properly finished and smoothly operating. Unfortunately, I received just the opposite! I never considered there would be sharp edges and a poor finish on this highly priced "Made in USA" tool. After picking up the new vise to examine it, I cut my finger on one of the several spots of flashing - sharp edges on the bottom left over from the molding process. The flash was extremely sharp, though thankfully not bad enough for stitches, and a minute or so with a Dremel tool and stone was all it took to smooth things out. I saw no sense in returning this for a new one (Why risk receiving something worse?), but in hindsight, I should have done so after also noticing how badly the lead screw binds. The binding is severe enough that it takes two hands to adjust the jaws - not good when one hand has to help steady the workpiece. Can't remove anything to try to fix it because the joints are all pinned. While I'm here: What's up with the oversized, archaic, flat-blade screws holding the jaws? I'm not going to use a dime or something other than a screwdriver to unscrew them, I'm at my workbench for crying or loud! ... show more

  • Not the best for small circuit boards, but still a great tool
I bought this (along with a base, separately) to use primarily on my electronics workbench to hold circuit boards for soldering. I chose this one rather than a smaller one meant specifically for circuit boards because I like the idea of being able to hold boards of all sizes. However, I'm finding that the jaws are just a little wobbly, so trying to square-up on a smaller circuit board can be tricky. But hey, that might just be the nature of the beast, and I should have a smaller jaw for smaller circuit boards, so I won't blame this one. I do like the self-centering jaws, and how it can articulate to any angle or position on the base. Excellent tool! ... show more

  • Expected better quality
The little rubber piece which rotates freely for clamping things in securely will for sure be the first piece to break, it bent fairly quickly. (First month of use) Not a big deal at all in fact that doesn't even remove a star for me. What does remove 2 stars is the lack of quality in the machining. It's very rough when tightening and loosening. Sat there for an hour or so working it in but that didn't do much, greased it up a bit, helped a little. Works for what I need it to do but I expected better quality for the price. I guess really nothing is built like the old tools ... show more

  • PanaVice Products are an Excellent Choice!
I have used these PanaVice products for decades, both at work and home. Their simple design ensures low probability of failure, and are just the right size for working on circuit boards, and finishing small sheet metal filing. They may be excellent for other jobs, but That is not what I use them for. I currently use 376 Self-Centering, Extra Wide Opening Head, 311 Bench Clamp Base Mount, 303 Standard Head, and 324 Electronic Work Center, and considering a tablet mount for my car. ... show more

  • It’s functional
I use this for small to medium parts in woodworking, antique parts repair, or working on small metal parts. It is very functional for my use. The one concern I have is the “slop” in jaws as it moves along the threaded rods. If precision is a top criteria, this may be an issue, however.

  • No quality control.
Clamping heads came rusted and one of the four screws was the wrong size so I had to go to the hardware store and find one. Painted the angled clamps and got a screw but it’s too expensive to have had this happen. They need to send the screw to me and new clamp heads that have something to keep them from rusting. ... show more

  • A uniquely designed tool
This centering vise is unique in its design, and allows for the user to quickly grab odd shapes and have them balanced in it. The wide jaw opening is also a useful feature, making this tool a must have for DIY and those of us that restore vintage electronic equipment. I recommend you purchase a dedicated wide base for this tool instead of sharing it with other Panavise tools. ... show more
