Description

The PanaVise 376 self-centering extra wide opening vise head features jaws that open up to 9", allowing any existing 300 series PanaVise base (sold separately) to hold small or larger objects without the need to change heads. Vise jaws are individual L-shaped elements, secured to the head with two screws. This makes the jaws reversible, allowing for a true 'zero' closure required for very small items. Jaws are opened and closed via a "double-action" side crank mechanism that simultaneously moves both jaw ends towards each other, automatically centering them in the middle of the head. This ensures fast opening and closing, a good fit against held items, and concentration of the weight of items directly over the stem of the head, increasing the stability of the vise when working with heavier items. The unit ships with reversible/removable 1-7/8" neoprene jaw pads. One side of the pads has multiple grooves designed for flat surfaces, while the other side has a wide "V" groove to hold round or elliptical objects. To promote eye comfort jaws, guide rods and threads are treated with a black oxide coating to reduce glare in bright lighting conditions. • A Vice of Superior Quality
I was looking for a decent vise for my art projects and I first bought the Stanley MaxSteel 83-069 Multi-Angle Vise (ASIN:B000UOJF66) - it had decent reviews. However, after returning 2 different defective vises from Stanley (the vise warbled as it closed and opened because of a warped center-pin), I had to go with a different brand - PanaVise did not disappoint. While certainly more expensive, it's light-years ahead of the Stanley in build-quality, operation, and finish. PanaVise makes vises - and that's pretty much it - so they know what they're doing. Pros: opens and closes smoothly, you can flip the jaws around (face-in or out), opens quite wide, can change out this head for several different variation, and very sturdy. Cons: expensive and the head and base sold are separately (but on some parts of Amazon, you can buy combos - I just didn't find this particular combo: PanaVise Model 376 Wide-Opening Head with Panavise 305 2 1/2" Low-Profie Base). Overall - a very nice hobby vise. ... show more

  • Not the best for small circuit boards, but still a great tool
I bought this (along with a base, separately) to use primarily on my electronics workbench to hold circuit boards for soldering. I chose this one rather than a smaller one meant specifically for circuit boards because I like the idea of being able to hold boards of all sizes. However, I'm finding that the jaws are just a little wobbly, so trying to square-up on a smaller circuit board can be tricky. But hey, that might just be the nature of the beast, and I should have a smaller jaw for smaller circuit boards, so I won't blame this one. I do like the self-centering jaws, and how it can articulate to any angle or position on the base. Excellent tool! ... show more

  • Great addition to my panavise. very versatile.
This is a great way to hold odd shaped things without leaving a mark. its a nice addition to the tool collection and I already use it often. I probably did not need the extra wide for the small projects that i work on, but a spacer makes it easy to use on smaller stuff. In the case of this vise, bigger is better. ... show more

  • Nice, if a bit expensive.
Nicely built and solidly engineered, all metal construction (except the pads of course). I'm hard-pressed to find many negative aspects- My only complaints are that the guide-rods wear slightly on the slides as there are no bearings - just through-hole. This will cause them to loosen slightly over time as well as wear off the black-oxide coating. The "crank" offset is also seems a bit short, though this was probably done on purpose to limit the amount of force applied to the screw. If it were double the size, opening/closing the jaws would require less effort. However, these are all very very very minor details compared to the overall quality and construction. Still, I'd like to see the price to go down a little or the details fixed. ... show more

  • Perfect.
Needed other accessories and this one worked to the addition. If custom building PCB boards is something you do, this helped immensely.

  • Fraud
No delivery. When obtained from another vendor, it was great.

  • Works, but pricey and not nearly as easy to use as I had hoped
Bought this for locksport, as it seemed the de facto standard. Already had the base, so I was stuck getting just the head. I like this head a *little* better than the "standard" head I already had, but it's simply.not thay much better. It is super expensive for what you get. I even got it on sale and I still don't think it was worth it. If you are buying this for locksport, buy the combo that comes with the mobile base and this head. Buying this head separately, even on "sale", is expensive and not really a good value. ... show more

  • Self-centering Extra Wide Opening (Reversable) Vise Head
Marvelous attachment for the PanaVise 300 series base. I've added the Heavy-Weight Base, and between the two extras, this vise will handle most any hobby (or other light or medium) stuff. The jaws are reversible, as are the rubber slide-on jaw covers. One side is ribbed and the other is V-shaped to hole vertical round items. Reversible jaws, allow for fully closed jaws and also maximum opening width. The crank adjustment is very smooth. (It's a fine thread, so a lot of rotations are required to open and close the jaws from closed to fully open, which is okay, because you have complete control over the pressure exerted on you object.) I recommend this for any hobbyist project, and in some cases for intricate parts holding for wood shop items ... show more
