  • What a great pocket camera and more
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
When I saw this Panasonic camera on Amazon for what I thought was a great price I new it was one to buy. It is small; has a great zoom lens (a Leica); easy to operate; and has a very good hand grip/and thumb rest. It also records video in 4K as well as HD. I could take pictures of distant objects that I could barely see with my own eyes and the photos came out very clear and fully recognizable. The photos are sharp, and the videos because of image stabilization are very smooth and non-jerky. Also, there actually is an electronic viewfinder in addition to the screen which is most helpful when lighting conditions are very bright outside. The viewfinder is excellent since you can set it to your eyes and kicks in automatically when you look into it. There are dozens of features for the amateur as well as the professional photographer such as shooting raw and many tweaking capabilities. I love this pocket camera---a must have for anyone from amateur to professional (probably more as a backup camera). If you need a pop out screen the next model ZS70 for $50 dollars more at the time I bought this one may be for you or more specifically for you tube creators though there is no additional audio input. You can't go wrong with this camera and Panasonic actually gave me an extended warranty for 3 years which wasn't described in the Amazon description. You also can't go wrong with an extended warranty through amazon if need be. I thought shooting video and pictures on my Samsung phone or for more extreme contexts with my GoPro---but this camera makes it a lot easier and even better for everyday photos and special trips or events. ... show more

  • Great point and shoot camera
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
So far after checking to make sure everything works as described.... this is an amazing point and shoot camera. bought this to compliment my main camera canon 70D. I needed a smaller camera to fit in pocket or the bag I carry main camera in... this works perfect.... bought this also for the 4K capability and the post focus ability and it all works fine in this small compact camera... I have the lumix dmc-zs7 and it took good pictures and video... but the sharpness is way better on this new camera... I am still messing around on this, so I have not used this in a real scenario scene, only for testing in house and outside, and I am impressed with video and picture quality in such a small camera... zoom works great and better than all other point and shoot cameras I have used, but I would not zoom in on subjects to max, sharpness gets very dull and cloudy.... now with my camera, changing focus points in post focus was a little hard to figure out, but once you figure this, I love this feature, and you won't find this in any camera or phone that I know of. Now the flash mode on and off was a little difficult to figure out on my camera, because you can't use flash in 4Kburst or in post focus modes. There are many many functions on this camera I have not yet played with, like changing picture scenes, expressive, monochrome, high key etc, for giving your pictures even more style... I also love taking video in 4k and freezing frames in action and using that pic to print off. I am getting a charger and a couple more batteries for this, because you do drain the battery quick when in 4K bursts and using post focusing modes... also it's good to have a strong good SD card, I use the sandisk extreme pro speed class 3, 10. It's still early to see if this camera holds out long because it just came out, but I highly recommend this. ... show more

  • Great camera with cool features to help further a love for photography! Great camera with cool features to help further a love for photography!
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
I bought this camera used and had it for a little over 2 years. It quickly became one of my most prized possessions that I would never leave the house without. I got it originally to use for the Taylor Swift concert (see my view from nosebleeds) and it fulfilled its purpose very well. It was easy to use and learn about different features it had. The pictures were very clear and beautiful and had a load of different settings, and it had amazing zoom—I was able to capture not only the moon, but the solar eclipse as well (with eclipse glasses over the lens). The battery life lasted quite long, though towards the end of the camera’s life it tended to need to be charged more often. I only ever had a few issues with this camera. First, one time the lens was stuck and I was unable to use the camera, though I was able to fix this by smacking it hard between my hands. Second, the battery cover flap broke off and needed to be reattached with tape. And third, the reason I am currently no longer able to use it, the lens broke and got stuck and no longer retracts into the camera therefore making it unable to turn on. These problems do not diminish the quality of this camera or its importance to me and were more likely due to my user error and lack of safety with this camera. I will be shopping for another one, most likely from the same brand, though not this exact model, as I now search for something a bit more professional. Overall this camera was a great beginner camera to further my love and interest in photography and it was worth every dollar I spent! ... show more

  • Very Fun Point and Shoot Very Fun Point and Shoot
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
My first Panasonic camera. Purchased this for the zoom, portability and video capabilities. Does fit in pants pocket, but is heavier and larger than I expected. I posted size comparisons with other cameras I own. Very fun camera to have with me all day. Start up is fast. Zooming in and out is fast as well. The lense is silent while zooming. Which is great when shooting video. The lenses I have for my Nikon D5500 are very noisy and constantly re-focusing. Althogh, the video quality on my d5500 is excellent. My Canon SL1 Rebel is much better at shooting video than my Nikon. Canon's STM lenses are extremely quiet. Focusing is much better, too. The zs60 is awesome for video. Even in low light, the zs60 is crisp at 1080p. The 4K video is also a feature I was interested in. Surprising features is the shooting of high speed videos @ 120fps and 240fps. The higher speed will film in 480 resolution, but is still amazing looking. The still picture quality is as expected for the small sensor. Decent pictures, but don't expect lots of depth to pics. Also, cropping your pics will show all of the noise that the 1/2.3" sensor has. The zs60 feels solid, and has a good weight to it. The control dial on the top and the back of the camera feel cheap. The control ring feels solid. It can be used for manual focusing or changing aperture or shutter speed. Lots of customizations are a attainable because most of the buttons are programmable. The flash is in a bad spot. I have to make sure that i'm holding the camera a certain way or my middle finger will partially block the flash. Both viewfinders are amazingly sharp. I never thought i would use an EVF style viewfinder, but this camera's is really nice. It comes in handy if sunlight is extremely bright. The battery seems to have decent life on it. It doesn't compare to my D5500, but it seems about average. A trick I use to keep the screen from coming on when i don't want it is too place a finger near the eye sensor next to the EVF. The menu system is responsive and crisp. There are a lot of features packed into this camera. It'll take a while to try them all out. The artistic filters are excellent. They can turn the otherwise flat pictures into something better. I have shot video in 4k, but I don't have anything to view them with. So I can't comment on that. But i have tried the 4K burst mode of photographs. Almost all of the pics from burst mode were grainy. The backgrounds were very mushy looking. I took them when it was cloudy outside, so maybe I would have better results if the sun was out. Still experimenting. Overall, I really enjoy using this camera. Update: I haven't been able to figure out the Wi-Fi on this camera. It's confusing. Regarding the pictures I posted, the first one was shot with Artistic Expression filter in the Creative Mode. The second was shot in iA mode. the third and fourth shows the range of the lens. Look in the middle of the parking lot picture. You'll see the white clock tower. that's at 24mm. the fourth pic is the clock tower at 720mm. 5th-7th are just size comparisons. {UPDATE: 6-9-2016} Now that I have been using this camera for 2 months, I have discovered that the software works for transferring images to my iPhone and iPad. The camera is also able to connect to wireless itself, but you need a Panasonic account for that. I have not signed up for that. I had stated previously that video in low light was great. I was mistaken. I was taking videos in low light of inanimate objects (candles; electric and real). But I discovered that filming people indoors, even with decent lighting is terrible. This camera excels in the sunlight. Taking video of my daughter's preschool assembly is pretty much useless. The zs60 smears, blurs and distorts your subjects. I'm still keeping my rating at 5 stars because I haven't been able to put this camera down. It goes everywhere with me. But certain shooting environments really expose the weaknesses of the 1/2.3" sensor. But, videos and pics I have taken of the moon are awesome! I now appreciate the quality of video and pics of my APS-C cameras more. The zs60's size is great. Very small, and that's the trade off: small camera/sensor, less quality of images. This camera also suffers from rolling shutter, a "jello" effect when shooting video. This does not occur everytime I have shot video, but it is noticible. On a positive note, this camera is an excellent macro shooter! You can get as close as 5cm from your subject! Videos at close range are excellent as well (all with proper lighting). All in all, this camera is extremely fun to use. I uploaded more pics. A moon shot, a macro shot and a hi-speed 120fps hd quality (slo-motion) video. ... show more

  • 2 minor problems, 1 deal breaker
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
April 2016 Update; I recently experimented with a Panasonic Lumix ZS100 [1 inch sensor, $697.99 MSRP], comparing it to the Lumix ZS60 reviewed below. I used the automatic settings, as the camera came out of the box, just as I did with the ZS60. Still photos were much better. Very crisp & detailed. 4k video (I didn't try 1080p) was also much improved, but was still somewhat soft & lacking sharpness compared to my Sony RX100 mark 4. The focus blurring & instability I noticed in the ZS60 was still somewhat present, but reduced to the point that 4k video was acceptable, unlike the ZS60. Color accuracy was an issue, however, with distinct problems rendering a true red...objects were consistently color-shifted to an orange cast. I noticed this primarily indoors under artificial lighting...outside, in natural daylight, the camera performed better. The RX100 produced more natural and realistic colors than either of the Panasonic units. However, it's also $250.00 more than the ZS100, and since the Panasonic has a 10x zoom and records 15 minutes of 4k video at a time (compared to 3x zoom and 5 minutes of 4k for the Sony), the ZS100 could be a good buy for people who don't want to drop nearly a grand for a point & shoot camera. I would give it at least 2.5 stars, possibly 3 if it weren't for the color accuracy issues on indoors shots, and I would probably have kept it as my backup camera if I didn't have the RX100v4 to compare it to. I still think the 1 star rating I gave the ZS60 was being overly generous. If anyone would like to see video clips from all 3 cameras for comparison purposes, drop me an e-mail at [email protected] & I'll send you the download link [Amazon does not permit the posting of links in reviews]. I am posting a negative review of the Panasonic Lumix ZS60 because of two relatively small problems that may just be defects in the particular model I was shipped, and one very large issue that is a total deal breaker. I compared this camera head-to-head, under exactly the same shooting conditions, with my existing Sony DSC-HX50V and HX20V. All the cameras were set to the idiot-proof intelligent auto mode, to allow direct comparison. Memory was a Sandisk UHS-3 sdxc 64g card. The two smaller problems first: (1) The LCD viewscreen goes black intermittently, for no apparent reason. This happens 2-3 times at random intervals during every 20-30 minutes of shooting. Since Panasonic probably didn't design it's viewscreens to do this just to annoy buyers, I assume this is simply a manufacturing defect in my particular unit. UPDATE: A comment from another Amazon customer (see comments below) reminded me that passing a hand or other object too close to the Electronic View Finder will momentarily disable the LCD screen. This is almost certainly the cause of the temporary blackouts I experienced, so it is user error, not a defect in the camera. (2) More serious, at full zoom, the camera has a VERY hard time finding and holding focus. The image tends to blur, re-focus, and blur again, particularly when shooting video. I noticed this both under artificial lighting and in full daylight. I noticed this same problem in the Panasonic LX100 that I used briefly in 2015. I know that long-zoom point-and-shoot cameras generally struggle with auto focus at maximum magnification when hand-held, but the ZS60 was consistently much worse at acquiring and holding focus than the HX50/HX20, which are older and presumably much less sophisticated cameras. (3) The deal breaker: the 4k video quality is terrible. With the camera set to record 4k/30 in MP4, the default, the video playback was no better, and possibly worse, than what you would expect from an old VHS tape. Indoors or in outdoor daylight, the quality was the same. Shooting the same subjects under exactly the same conditions, the video from my 1080p Sony camera was visibly much better, which should not be the case. Very disappointing, since I assume much of the price increase of this camera over last year's model is attributable to the addition of the 4k video feature. 1080p video also looked soft, and lacked detail, especially in indoor shooting. UPDATE: In his comment (see comments below) Amazon customer Roger James pointed out that 4k is very demanding and failure to use a tripod when shooting 2160p video can result in serious motion blur. This is a good point, but it wasn't the problem that caused me to return the ZS60; even when the camera was in a fixed position, with no motion, the 4k video was terribly soft and lacking in detail & clarity. It was about the quality of a poor YouTube video. I compared the ZS60's 4k video to video taken under the same conditions by a Sony RX100 Mark 4 in 2160p and the difference was overwhelming. Even when contrasted with 1080p video from my Sony HX20V, the 4k video from the ZS60 was so soft and degraded as to be unwatchable. The video I posted was 2160p, and apparently Amazon's built in video player can't stream that format yet, which is why it won't play. If anyone wants to download the actual 4k clip I'm referring to, drop me an e-mail at [email protected] & I'll send you a download link. The still pictures were not quite as bad, but again they were visibly inferior to my older Sony camera(s) when shooting under identical conditions. Since the other 2 posted reviews of this camera give it a very high score, it seems possible that I just got a lemon. We're still very early in the production run of this brand new camera, so that wouldn't be terribly unusual. However, I can only report on the specific unit I was shipped, which was unacceptable and is being returned. ... show more

  • Wonderful Family Camera! Wonderful Family Camera!
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
We love this point & shoot camera for both kids & adults! It's so light-weight and fits in your perfect -- great for a traveling family like ours. The Zoom is AWESOME! Gets you so close to your subject which is perfect for nature and wildlife shots. Plus it has a great grip and fits easily in the hands of a kid so we can change who's taking photos on our outings without having to monitor how the kids hold the camera. And the super cool 4K Photo Function let's you pull an 8-megapixel photo from a video you record! Our kids also quickly found the photo editing features that are built in and the interactive touch screen is nice and large and allows you to manage various functions without messing with dials and buttons. Great camera! I participated in an Advocate Program on behalf of Panasonic USA. I received product samples as part of my participation. All opinions are my own. ... show more

  • Almost magical Almost magical
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
Just a quick note to highlight one of the unexpected features of this camera: taking pictures before you press the shutter. That's right, you can record images before you click the shutter. This is the 4K-Pre mode. It's been a breakthrough for me in taking bird pictures. Ordinarily, I spot a bird sitting on a branch, I focus on it, and as soon as I click the shutter it flies away. I get a photo of an empty branch. With the 4K-Pre mode, I focus and wait for the bird to make a move. As soon as it flies away I click the shutter. I get about fifteen frames of the bird before I've clicked the shutter: some of the best bird images I've shot, because on takeoff the birds really extend themselves and you can see their effort and technique frame by frame. It's almost magical. I've owned the ZS camera series off and on since the ZS-3 (still a good camera) but this one is on a new level. I might post a more extended review when I've taken a trip with it and shot a few thousand images. Just wanted to highlight this amazing capability. P.S. This model also meets one of my long term wish list items: time lapse. I'm attaching a short video of a sunflower in a vase recovering after being left dry overnight. ... show more
