We use our current answering machine as an AUDIBLE call screening device (i.e.l we listen to incoming messages before deciding to answer the call). The answering component of these phones does not alloe us to hear messages as they are being left - an important requirement for us. Beyond that the audio quality of messages that were left was poor (static and distortion), so we consider the answering machine component to be unacceptable.

I bought this to replace my old and simple Panasonic cordless phone. This one has almost too many functions to make it simple to use. On my old phone, I just had to press one button on the receiver to delete a phone number from the caller ID. On this phone, it takes 5 different steps to do that (6 including pressing the button to get back to the main screen). It seems almost every function takes numerous steps to either set it up or to use it. The sound quality is very good, but the listening area where you put your ear is very small. On my old phone I could hold the receiver between my shoulder and ear while I was multitasking (hands-free holding the phone while doing other things when talking to my 85 year old mom - she can talk at great lengths, so I try to get other stuff done while I make my daily phone call to her... and she KNOWS I’m doing this, so don’t say I’m being inconsiderate to my mom!), because the listening area covered pretty much the whole top part of the receiver. With this new phone, I have a hard time holding the receiver like that, because unless my ear is right ON the small listening area (honestly, the area is smaller than a dime!), I can’t hear anything! Neither phone has/had the capability for using earbuds. This new phone does have a speaker, but I’m not a fan of using the speaker phone - I move in and out of different rooms too much (remember, I multitask), and I DO think a speaker phone is rude. It’s hard to hear the person using the speaker phone because it’s echoey and you hear all the background noise. I bought this particular phone because of the reviews on its sound quality. All in all, it’s a decent phone, but I would prefer something with not so many bells and whistles.
