The Hybrid 6' x 10' Greenhouse from Palram - Canopia combines two types of polycarbonate panels to create a balanced environment for your plants. The translucent polycarbonate roof panels have twice the heat retention of single layer panels and allow the light to reach your plants at all angles while the crystal-clear polycarbonate side panels provide over 90% light transmission and block harmful UV rays. Polycarbonate is a virtually unbreakable polymer that provides the light transmission of glass, but is lighter, stronger, and safer. Palram - Canopia engineers their panels and aluminum frames to be strong, highly resistant to harsh weather and sun, and durable. This attention to detail continues with an integrated gutter system for drainage as well as a roof vent and hinged door to provide airflow and allow adjustment of heat, humidity, and ventilation. The 6' x 10' Hybrid Greenhouse comes as a complete kit and can be easily assembled with simple tools. • Great first Greenhouse Great first Greenhouse
Color: Silver Size: 6 Ft. x 10 Ft.
Here are my first impressions and setup tips. 1. Installation: While some reviews found the assembly challenging, I thought it was pretty simple, just need to be patient and follow directions in order. The directions are similar to IKEA’s, where it’s mostly graphical, with a few notes scattered throughout where more detail is necessary. It’s recommended to have two people working together during installation. I only had 1 issue with the roof bracket instructions. The part number placement did not match the placement depicted by the image. This only cost me about 30 minutes extra since I had to remove 2 roof panels to move the window placement. It was no big deal and was an easy fix. 2. Sturdiness: So far, it does seem very sturdy. I placed the green house on 4x6 wood frame surrounded by gravel. Using lag bolts to secure the base frame to the wood. At first, it did not feel sturdy and I started to have doubts, but by the time everything was secured, it actually feels really sturdy. It’s only been up for a couple weeks and we have had a few storms, with high winds; there was no issues what so ever. 3. Panels: Panels are very clear and provide plenty of sunlight to come in. The hybrid model has different panels for the roof which also helps trap heat and apparently blocks UV rays. Other reviews say they fly out with high wind. I haven’t experience this yet, and they do feel like the windows are locked in pretty well. However, I will take some extra precautions and use some caulk to try and secure them down, just in case. Tips and recommendations: 1. Panels: The corner wall panels were a bit hard to put in, and we got one stuck as we were sliding it in. We found it was way easier to take the corner post out, slide the panels into the corner post, then put the corner back in like it was one piece. While you are building this, walls are not secured and constantly moving, causing some misalignment, which makes it hard to slide the panels in. Putting the corners together as one piece helped tremendously. 2. Parts: One major recommendation is to count all parts, separate them and place them in clearly marked bags. We did not have any parts missing. All small parts went into bags and big parts were organized, so all like parts were together. You will have extra parts left over, review directions, it’s marked which parts have extra pieces. As mentioned earlier, we did not have issues with directions, but we followed one page at a time and only got parts that we needed for that page. 3. Take your time: It took about 3-4 days to put together, working on it a little bit at a time. It gets very hot in the green house when you get towards the end, so have plenty of water handy if you’re working in the sun. Update: After one season. Well, I now see why other users complained about losing panels. After 1 very strong wind storm, roughly 30+ mile an hour winds, one roof panel came half way off. However, the solution was simple. I made kinda of a net with covered steel cable and clamps. See video, and pic of the final solution. I also added some more caulking near the top of the roof, since that is where the panel came out. Pretty sure this will solve the problem. ... show more

The assembly process can be a little tedious and the instructions are not the most detail. I encourage you not to get frustrated and worry about the perceived flimsiness prior to it being bolted to the ground and wall. Once completely setup it is quite sturdy and looks nice. The plastic panels are somewhat flimsy so I am a little concerned about their longevity and how well they stand up over time without discoloring. I’ll plan to update the review after 12 months. I’m giving it 4 stars right now for the benefit of the doubt. ... show more

I bought this little greenhouse as a better shelter for my plants than my garage, where I usually overwinter peppers and flowers. I was initially skeptical of any kind of shelter out of a box, there's just so much crap out there, but after assembling this little structure I am really happy with the construction and quality. I work in manufacturing, specifically in designing event structures very similar to this greenhouse on a larger scale, and this is a really nice design. Holes line up like they are supposed to. All the necessary parts and fasteners were included, with spares for when you drop screws in the grass. The plastic parts are sturdy and actually fit. The only time I had any problems with assembly whatsoever was when I did something wrong in the previous step. All I can say is Wow. The directions read like Lego prints, all pictures, but they are well done and pretty easy to follow. There are videos and web pages available, but I did not need them. It took me about a day and 3 hours to assemble everything by myself. I anchored it down with hooked edging stakes, which fit nicely on the galvanized steel base rail. We'll see how well it protects the plants from the frost. Fingers crossed. ... show more

  • Worst company ever. Don’t buy! Worst company ever. Don’t buy!
Color: Silver Size: 6 Ft. x 10 Ft.
I saved up for 18 months to buy this stupid greenhouse. I decided to buy one in like new condition to save a little money. BIG MISTAKE ! Apparently the used ones are not sold by palram. There sold by a 3rd party. God help you if you buy from 3rd party! So I get this home. Unfortunately I didn’t know it was supposed to be in two boxes. If you don’t know you can’t just assemble this and throw it out in your yard. You have to site prep and pour a foundation. I’m in Las Vegas in June. It was 120 degrees outside with hurricane force winds (80mph). The weather was too bad to build this right away. So it sat in my entryway for two months, until it finally cooled down enough to be outside. I had a lot of trouble getting the cement to pour the foundation with. I don’t have a car so I had to find someone who would deliver it. When I finally got the concrete I decided to assemble the base of the greenhouse to make sure everything was in the right place to pour the concrete. When I opened the box, I was horrified to find out that I only had the polycarbonate. There’s nothing in box one besides the polycarbonate. No frame, no bolts, no nuts, no instructions. Nothing but polycarbonate and I have no way of knowing if that’s all the polycarbonate or not because there’s no paperwork of any kind in the box. Unfortunately this happened on a Sunday, so there’s nothing I can do because no one answered the phone on Sunday. I contact amazon. There’s no way to contact palram through amazon. So I tried calling palram ram but no one answered because it was Sunday. On Monday I contacted amazon who told me to call palram. So I called palram for the second time. At least someone answered the second time. They said that they were the wrong department and I needed to palram’s amazon department. So I called there amazon department and I get a recording that says “if you’re missing one of your boxes press one “. Which is a huge red flag. So I press one and they say “sorry you bought from 3rd party so it’s not are problem. Call amazon “. So I contacted amazon. The said that I could have a refund if I returned the package. I don’t have a car and this thing weighs 69 pounds. So they said no problem will have it picked up from your place. So pick up day one comes and goes. NO ONE EVER SHOWED UP ! I contacted amazon AGAIN and they say no problem will reschedule. Pick up day 2 comes and goes. NO ONE EVER SHOWED UP ! So I tried contacting UPS and there website said “your package is to heavy . We won’t take it “. But then I found thats not even true. So now I’m waiting on a 3rd pick up. Which may or may not show up. Also this polycarbonate seems very thin and poor quality. Don’t buy. ... show more

  • Easy to set up
Color: Silver Size: 6 Ft. x 8 Ft.
This greenhouse was my first in the "hard-sided" greenhouse variety so I was a little apprehensive about setting it up. However, the instructions were clear, and when followed properly, set up was a breeze. It took a few hours to set up, but I'm very pleased with the structure. I live in the Northeast United States, so our growing season begins (at best) in early April and plants don't go in the yard until mid- to late-May. I have been able to start my seedlings in this greenhouse in April each year and have not been disappointed. I end up with a lush garden in the height of summer and flowers blooming around the yard. I have had this greenhouse for several years and it is sturdy enough to withstand the winters in the Northeast. I did purchase the tie-down package to ensure that it won't be affected by any high winds and have had no issues. ... show more

  • Not a bad purchase
Color: Silver Size: 4 Ft. x 8 Ft.
It’s a kit so we have to be open minded. Pros: Attractive, great size, lean-to shape is a win, fits two people and shelves inside, it’s functional, perfect for a small backyard. Cons: Plants get sun burned if no shades installed. Structure is very noisy in the wind. (Plastic panels bang on the metal frame and sounds like loud thunder.) I worried about it angering my neighbors. Needs to be anchored to whatever structure it will butt up against as a lean-to design. (Drilling into said structure required). Difficult to put together. Takes a minimum of two people to install. Feels somewhat flimsy until it’s completely installed. We knew when we bought this that we’d be improving upon it at the Home Depot or Lowe’s (and we did). Neutral: It can get really hot inside depending on where you live. (This can kill seedlings). This is not the structures fault. Improvements: We first considered plexiglass but that costs just as much as the kit to replace the clear side panels for noise reduction. Due to the cost we didn’t do this. We glued and screwed furring strips on the exterior of the panels locking the panels in tight, eliminating movement of the panels. It no longer bangs in the wind. (Improvement cost $152. We bought a 6.5’ x 10’ shade cloth for $12 off Amazon and screwed it in at the top peak to be used like a roll down/up curtain (cutting a hole where the top vent is). We stapled a 6.5’ piece of furring strip to the bottom of the cloth, so it could be rolled up and rested on the lower roof edge ($15). We bought a $4 two pack of L shape brackets that we could place the rolled up shade onto at the roof’s edge like a rack. The furring strip in the bottom of the cloth serves as a weight to keep it from blowing around and makes it super easy to roll up. Total Improvement cost: $31 Needs a solid foundation of pavers or cement. We used pavers. Improvement cost $240 At some points I wondered if it would have been cheaper to have just built it. Ultimately was glad I chose to get the kit because we don’t want it to take more than a weekend to install from cradle to grave. It removed a lot of research, planning and parts hauling. After taxes, foundation and all improvements this lean-to greenhouse cost a little over $1000 to properly install and make functional. Active considerations: we may install a solar powered fan to move air. Potential improvement cost $50. Ultimately, I really do love it. I would recommend this to a person who is capable in the line of construction and who has good solution finding skills. ... show more

  • Better than expected..... Better than expected.....
We've been in need of a small greenhouse for some time now and finally got around to researching and picked this one. We chose to assemble it on a wood deck base, an investment of roughly 60 dollars. Assemble was simple enough, despite not having written instructions. The assembly instructions are in illustrations, which is fine, very detailed, easy to understand. My only advice to prospective buyers is to carefully observe the illustrations. I had to back track a few times due to fasteners being installed in the wrong holes, etc. Overall assembly was easy enough. Working by myself, I had it assembled and ready to our seedlings in about 5 hours. As light wieght as it is, I find it to be much sturdier than it looks. The weather will give it a good test in the coming days with wind and rain, but I feel confident our little green house will hold up just fine. Update: Well it's been around a week or so since we've completed our greenhouse and put into service. We've experienced some heavy rains and weather since then and the house has not leaked and held together perfectly. It does warm up pretty quickly as the sun rises, so we may upgrade to an auto ventilation arm, but for now we easily just open the vent manually and close it it in the evenings to protect our seedlings, which by the way are doing great. It is much roomier than I had expected and has accomodated a small work table and shelves. Do I recommend this greenhouse???? Heck Yeah! Update on September 5, 2020 It’s been a few years and our greenhouse is going strong. This year we relocated it to make room for a pool project. I removed the screws securing it to the wood base we had built and carried the whole house to the new location. All is good, then comes Hurricane Laura. We live in North Louisiana by the time she came through she was still a strong Cat 1 Hurricane. Heavy rains , sustained 60 mph winds, and gusts of 75 to 90. The only damage was the vent came off, my fault as I overlooked that in our storm preps. I straightened up the auto ventilation arm and reattached the whole thing. Update Part 2. Going on 5 years now and I continue to sing this little greenhouse’s praises. In the last year 2020 into 2021 we have experienced two hurricanes in North Louisiana that blew through as Cat 1, winds 70 mph with higher gusts, tropical downpours. A tornado event with hail. Several inches of snow followed weeks later by a once in a lifetime ice and snow storm. And our little house has stood up to it all. No cracks, no metal deterioration, everything works like the day we assembled it. And our seedlings seem to like it too. Lightweight but tough and durable and it still looks great. Worth every penny and I still highly recommend it to anyone who needs a small backyard greenhouse. ... show more

  • Overview, Challenges, and Hints - Pelham 6 x 10 Hybrid Greenhouse Overview, Challenges, and Hints - Pelham 6 x 10 Hybrid Greenhouse
Color: Silver Size: 6 Ft. x 10 Ft.
We purchased the Pelram 6 x 10 Hybrid Greenhouse plus several accessories. The greenhouse parts were in two large boxes and the accessories where in three boxes. Every component of the greenhouse must be assembled. Nothing is preassembled. In addition to the tools listed in the instructions, have a level, 10 mm socket wrench (or a powerful cordless screwdriver capable of being fitted with a Philips head and socket), and needle nose pliers. You might also need a drill fitted with a Philips head driver because some screws are too difficult to tighten by hand or with some cordless screwdrivers. It took 2 hours to sort parts, group pieces, and straighten damaged parts before beginning the assembly. Out of the box, several aluminum pieces had blemished surfaces. Some aluminum parts arrived bent. The polycarbonate wall panels are very thin and packed tightly overlaying each other. Those panels are very difficult to separate without crimping them. About 30% of the polycarbonate roof panels were damaged (bent and/or crushed) at the corners. The boxes were not damaged suggesting that the parts were defective when they were packaged. Fortunately, the roof frame hides that damage on the panels. Most parts are either embossed with an identifying number, tagged with a paper label, or in labelled bags. However, some parts have no labels, or the labels are worn and illegible. The greenhouse requires a firm foundation. Pelham’s instructions specifically indicate not to place the greenhouse on support blocks positioned at the corners of the frame. If possible, avoid building the greenhouse directly on the ground, especially if the area isn’t level and compacted. We built a floating wood deck, and we’re glad we did because Pelham suggests that the base of the greenhouse frame be secured to the foundation. We used wood screws (provided in the optional anchor kit, not with the greenhouse kit) to fasten the frame’s base to the deck. The instructions also describe using anchors (provided in the anchor kit, not with the greenhouse) to secure the frame to plastic or concrete foundations. However, I can’t imagine securing the frame to concrete with anchors without risking significant damage to the frame. That’s because the anchors are to be installed through narrow holes on the top and bottom edges of the base frame. You’ll need a long-shank driver to fit inside the holes to secure the frame to the foundation. The greenhouse walls have no penetrations to accommodate a garden hose. We laid PVC plumbing underground and then up through the wood deck to accommodate a future watering system inside the greenhouse. The instructions include narratives in 19 languages plus supporting figures. The instructions are challenging to follow and sometimes seem inaccurate. For example, the instructions describe instances when nuts should remain loose and not tightened until later during assembly. However, we had to snug some bolts right away to keep pieces in place and then loosen them later. In other instances, we had to eventually loosen bolts that the instructions indicated to tightened. And there are cases when the graphics fail to address whether to tighten the nut when it’s placed on a bolt. Some figures are difficult to interpret. It’s not always clear how to arrange parts to match the graphics because there isn’t enough detail on the graphics, such as blow ups of part cross-sections. You’ll benefit by having an enhanced ability to look at a graphic on paper and create a three-dimensional mental image of the assembled parts. Greenhouse assembly requires two people. There are few instances when the people can work independently because someone needs to hold parts while the other secures them. The framework will be flimsy until the greenhouse is almost fully assembled. Here’s a few clarifications about the greenhouse assembly: -The greenhouse includes four aluminum braces: two for the back and two in front. The braces are very thin and easily bend. They’ll warp and pull the frame out of shape if installed wrong. The braces have oval holes at one end. Position the braces so the oval holes are at the bottom of the braces. The bottom of each brace is to be positioned at the bottom of a vertical wall beam. Provide a separate bolt to secure the bottom of the brace. Don’t attempt to use the bolt securing the vertical post to fasten both the brace and secure the post. -Most bolts are positioned in grooves in the frame and the frame keeps the bolt heads from turning while installing the nuts. However, there are some bolts (in the corners of the greenhouse) that are not in grooves and the heads spin while applying the nuts. Those bolt heads and nuts are difficult to reach so you’ll need needle nose pliers to hold the bolt head and a ratchet wrench to tighten the nut. -Door assembly is late in the project. But pay attention in advance how you intend the door to swing because it affects assembling the door frame early in the project. It’s too late to change the door frame when it’s time to assemble and install the door. -The door has a gasket along a vertical edge but be prepared to glue it in place because it slips out. -We purchased a shade cloth to block direct sun seasonally. Unfortunately, the shade cloth can’t be installed in the Hybrid with shelves already in place. Pelram provides no warning about this situation. -We also purchased an anchor kit with hurricane straps. One of the wires for a hurricane strap overlaps with the Hybrid greenhouse roof vent and prevents it from opening. Our email to Pelram seeking help with this matter bounced back even though we used the email address Pelram provided in the directions. We've contacted, Canopia, the company that recently purchased Pelram. Don't attempt assembly the greenhouse in breezy (say >15 mph) or rainy weather. It took us 12 hours to assemble the greenhouse working intermittently over several days during ideal weather in Florida. We purchased the greenhouse to protect plants during the occasional nighttime winter freeze and to grow milkweed and raise butterflies. To our disappointment, the finished greenhouse is not sealed well. There are plenty of spaces and gaps, including a significant gap between the top of the door and its frame. We suspect the greenhouse won’t retain heat overnight and wasps (deadly to caterpillars and chrysalis) can get inside. We’ll buy gaskets to fill the gaps. In our opinion, the Pelram Hybrid structure is a shelter not a true greenhouse. ... show more
