...but in a good way. I ordered this spatula as the Oxo brand always seems to be highly rated on America Test Kitchen. This one does not disappoint. Here is what I like about it: 1) Single piece construction: no nooks or crannies for food and debris to get trapped in and is easy to clean. Has embedded stiffener in handle so tool feels sturdy, without being "floppy". 2) Made of silicone: no worries about melting the tool. 3) Spatula head: nicely sculpted, with tapering edges all around, allowing you to get into all the corners of whatever bowl or pan you are using it on. Stiffener of handle runs about half way through spatula head, giving it some stiffness, while having the end and edges being just silicone, providing flexibility where it is needed. 4) Handle: handle is long, about 9.5" long, (overall spatula is about 15" long). At first, I thought this would be too long and unwieldly, but after using it for a bit, I actually find it useful as I get better leverage when stirring more viscous things or needing some extra distance from a hot frying pan or being able to reach the bottom of a deep pot. That said, this is not for delicate, precision work, more of a work horse tool. Final analysis: I would recommend this spatula to friends and family so it get's 5-stars. ... show more

I bought this specifically to clean my large, stainless steel french press. The long spoon that came with the press had a comically small head, and the sound of metal scraping on metal was grating. This spatula is the perfect shape to scrape out spent coffee grounds into the trash in just a few swipes--a small head that fits into the mouth of the press and a sturdy handle long enough to reach the bottom of the press. It cleans easily and has survived many a trip through the dishwasher. Of course, it works elsewhere one might use a silicone spatula. For example, it's great for pancake batter. Please note: the head is relatively soft (by design, surely). So if you are hoping to scoop rice from the rice cooker or coax homemade ice cream from the churner to storage you may need something firmer (I tried both of these with limited success). ... show more

This is the updated replacement to the model that preceded it. The previous one had a much more flexible tip that made it good for scraping bowls....BUT....I had two of those and after < year the tip cracked off. The current incarnation is sturdier and has held up over probably two years now. I wish it were more bendy though. It's pretty solid so shaping out cake batter can't be done nearly as cleanly as with the old. ... show more

We previously had a small spatula with a wood handle and we discovered a bunch of mold hidden under the silicone portion. Yuck! I was looking for a replacement that was one piece but would fit into smaller jars and this has worked amazingly well. Also much easier to clean.
