We've already used this for several meals -- it has totally sped up our slicing & chopping game. You stick the weighted end down on your cutting surface and adjust the knob from lock to your desired length before you start slicing. It comes with an extra component that you can use to press and hold the food down onto the slicer, avoiding any risk of cutting yourself. This is a brilliant tool for slicing dense veggies or cheeses. Using the hand guard is highly recommended as it cuts faster than you may think. I rely upon this for my scalloped potato dish, it also will make short work of beets, carrots, lengths of parmesan, etc. A kitchen must have.

Love this mandolin, the grip works great on cutting boards and the different widths for slicing are what I need. Definitely pick up some kevlar gloves to use with though, the slider they give you does not work well for smaller veggies like garlic, and sometimes using your hands is a better bet to get specific cuts. If you are like me, sometimes you don't need your Mac-Truck sized mandolin. This is perfect for something like a single potato, onion, squash or zucchini--which is what I mostly use it for. Even a ton of garlic. I do wish it had one more size smaller than its smallest three-adjustable settings. It does come with a safety guard. As with any slicer, err on the side of caution. Just because it is small, does not mean its potential to cut through flesh is any less! A mandolin's razor-sharp cut is difficult to stop bleeding. Be careful when cleaning ... I just give mine a quick power spray from the sink and put it in the dishwasher. It's small size is easy to store and retrieve when needed. ... show more

I got this brand new, washed it and started using it. I even was showing my teenager how to use it because Iโ€™m teacher her how to cook. This slicer cuts so well, so well in fact that my daughter needed to go to the ER for stitches on her thumb within 10 minutes of use. Iโ€™m not sure if it was user error or a safety feature lapse because I had told her be careful and then turned to do something else and she cut herself.
