I recently tried out OVERTURE Silk Copper Filament, and I’m honestly blown away by how great it is. The color is beautiful—it’s this rich metallic copper that really gives my prints a standout, high-quality finish. I used it for a few decorative pieces and some functional parts, and everything came out looking super polished. Printing with it was super easy, too. It fed through my printer smoothly with no tangles or clogs. I printed at around 210–220°C for the nozzle and 50°C for the bed, and had zero issues—just smooth, clean prints every time. No weird stringing or warping either. The best part is how strong the prints are. It’s sturdy enough for practical use, but still has that gorgeous silk sheen. The way it catches the light gives everything this high-end, premium vibe. If you’re looking for a filament that combines great looks and easy printing, I’d definitely recommend giving OVERTURE Silk Copper a try. It’s quickly become one of my favorite filaments to use, and I can’t wait to print more with it! ... show more

UPDATE: I found that this filament needs slightly lower retraction settings than I use on other silk filaments, and I had to disable z-hop as well. The z-hop (because its a vertical motor movement, which takes longer than X & Y) would take a fraction of a second before actually moving out of the Z axis. And this fraction of a second let some filament ooze out of the nozzle, which over several layers would result in long blob strings building up over time (seen in the retraction towers photo). I've uploaded some more recent photos that are 100x better (though there's still a slight bit of stringing, its such a minor amount that it doesn't bother me). I've attached photos of the material settings I had to make for overture silk filaments. Hopefully it helps others. Leaving my below (now inaccurate) review in case it's similar to the experience someone else may be having. ORIGINAL (Inaccurate) REVIEW: I personally really like Overtures PLA filaments. I would say maybe 1/3rd of my filaments are from them. And I've printed a decent amount of silk PLA as well (just not Overture brand). I purchased the Overture Silk Copper PLA filament, and the first thing I printed was a filament sample. And the majority of the surface looked ok except for the one spot with the letters "PLA". I figured maybe it was just something minor and went on to try printing a turbine for a model of a jet engine, and as you can see in the photos, it was absolutely disastrous. I put it next to another silk print of the same part and print settings (I actually just reprinted the same model/gcode after changing the filament. I dried the filament then tried increasing/decreasing the temperature, retraction distance/speed, print speed, z-offset, and tried printing various calibration towers for speed, temperature and retraction. And the globing/stringing is present. I Googled "overture silk PLA issues" and it looks like this is a somewhat common problem with Overtures silk PLA filaments. I will still continue to buy from Overture, but not for silk filaments. If I ever find a combination of settings that prevent these issues, I will be sure to update this post with those values.     • Filament Fine… Spool? Not So Much.

The filament itself is fine. The cardboard spool, not so much. I use an AMS and the spool needs to be tougher to tolerate the mechanism in the AMS. But, I just respooled using a nice design I printed and that problem was solved. I had no issues with the filament. I’ve had good performance on textured PEI, and with a cool plate on my Bambu P1S. Overture is amazing for the value and quality of filament you get, it prints without any issues and looks great. I’ve printed many different things with varying degrees of complexity and they all print very well. My current printer is the bambu labs A1 mini, with the AMS lite attachment. The cardboard spools fit on the AMS unit without issue, and Bambu Studio has a nice built in profile for Overtures filament as well which makes printing a breeze. ... show more

The Silk Copper is absolutely perfect looking. Of all the metal colors I have seen, this one takes the #1 spot. Print quality is great out of my Bambu P1S but I feel confident this will work with any printer. PRO TIP: GO GET THE PRINT PROFILE FROM OVERTURE'S WEBSITE! Specifically, find the page for their PLA Silk and go download the profile meant for whatever flavor of FDM printer you have. This will ensure the temps/flow ratio/etc are all dialed in perfectly for your machine. ... show more

This was my first foray into silk filaments, most of my printing thus far (5+ years) has been your standard, run of the mill, PLA. Mostly I've printed with overture and amazon basics, nothing special. Most of my prints are functional, meaning I haven't cared much for how they look. That said, this stuff looks FANTASTIC. All of the sudden I've been printing all sorts of silly stuff from Thingaverse, Printables, the like. It did take a few hours to get it dialed in, my first benchy did not stick on a textured PEI sheet (Prusa MK3s+) a tall. Looked like a pile of wet noodles. Found a little bit of gluestick on the plate helped with first layer adhesion, even though I know that not recommended. My Z-height has been dialed in on previous filaments so I think this stuff requires a different height, though I havent found it yet. I knocked down the extrusion rate a little bit to help with top layer stringing, think I'm running 98% now. But man this stuff shines in the light. At small layer heights (<0.10mm), it almost looks like a metallic injection molded model. Great stuff, I want it in every color. Get it! ... show more
