  • Low Density led to major under extrusion, multiple failures in prints.
Color: Red Size: 1KG
I bought a roll of this since it was on sale, and decided to try it for a two color project. The calibration cube and a couple of other tests appeared to be ok, but when I started on heavier prints for the project I started to have major under-extrusion issues in random places. I took several spot measurements of the diameter of the filament, and it was all 1.70-1.80 mm. So I knew that wasn't the issue. Yet, as you can see in the picture of the tube, there are several layers with minimal filament present, where there should have been a 4mm thick wall. The tube mechanically failed about 1/3 of the way up where those major underextrusions occurred. Examining the failure points, there were random bits of filament, then a solid line, then random bits again, etc. I was able to separate these layers with minimal force. Then I remembered that I had two calibration cubes printed with different brands of filament. Exact same g-code, so they should be really close in weight, right? Well, as you can see in the pictures, that was *not* the case. The Hatchbox PLA (black) weighed in at 5.47 grams, while the Overture PLA (red) weight 3.92 grams. Nearly 30% lighter!!! Sadly, this is not a good value if prints fail due to structural problems from underextrusion due to the low density of this filament. ... show more

  • On the menu for today: Filament Spagetti
Color: Red Size: 1KG
No idea what I bought, here. A whole lot of worthless PLA, to be frank. After several successful prints, adhesion just stopped entirely. I'm guessing there is moisture in the plastic? I can bake it in the oven, I guess? That sounds healthy for those of us in the house that like to breath clean air. I'm really just guessing that this is the issue, though. After I finally got tired of watching print failures, I removed this filament and then watched as my other perfectly fine filament began to have issues to. I'm guessing this garbage gunked up my extruder. I'm still trying to get things back to normal, and looking at possibly tearing my hot end apart to see if I need to clean it out. When I removed this stuff from my printer, a long thread of the stuff came out with it. Something isn't right with this stuff. Filament shouldn't be this tough. I'd suggest avoiding overture. from the other reviews it seems like you're at the mercy of the batch quality. ... show more

  • Listen to the critics on this one :/
Color: Red Size: 1KG
Listen to the critical reviews on this one, there is something very funky going on with some of the spools. I got the red one and came across all the issues mentioned by some of the more critical reviews. •Tangled: as soon as I unsealed, it was a tangled mess. •Brittle: keeps breaking itself, was a nightmare getting it to feed in without breaking over and over. Worse was when it snapped in the bowden tube. •Under-extrusion: extrusion is extremely inconsistent. As others have mentioned, clear break lines in the prints are visible and become easy snap points in the print. •Clogging: have had prints where extrusion just fails half way which is super frustrating. As others have mentioned density issues, I'm pretty sure this is what's causing clogging and under extrusion. People have mentioned that their black pla works fine but I'm super disappointed with what I got even though I like the color and it's shading. I'd more than likely be avoiding this product in the future. ... show more

  • Tangled irritation
Color: Red Size: 1KG
I buy a lot of Overture filament but this last one I bought was absolutely terrible. It got tangled constantly and led to an extremely frustrating experience. This has happened before and no one reached out to me. So customer service is also lacking. When the product works it is good but lately it just hasn’t been good. After this last project is completed I’m considering looking for a different brand. ... show more

  • Useless and brittle not worth buying
Color: Red Size: 1KG
I’ve just started 3d printing as a hobby and my first full spool of black pla ran beautifully through the ended 3 I bought not a single issue, however this OVERTURE RED PLA that I purchased for a specific print project I had in mind has been a problem from the beginning, clogging, stringing, weak and brittle prints, no structural strength at all, I printed a sanding block as a sample print and the thing crushed when I squeezed it, so save your money and find a better product than this, for an amateur printer and hobbyist this is very disheartening to run into. Takes the fun out of what should be an enjoyable time, so I’ll have to find better filament to start making my Christmas presents this year, since Ive already lost about a week of my time with this junk. ... show more
