  • Worth every penny
I waited a year before I decided to write a review. If I wrote one right out of the box, of course it's a new toy and the review would be glowing. Giving it a year's worth of use, I feel it's appropriate to give my take. Build Quality: it's solid. It has a very nice rigid frame. The ports and buttons are all nicely placed. The footprint isn't too large. And the weight is minimal. The belts on mine have never slipped. The cords and hoses are rigid enough that they stay out of the way. Performance: I've never had an issue. The laser has always performed like it should. I've cut plywood, engraved on a multitude of different hardwoods, and have even moved it to various locations in my shop. It's a work horse. It relies on software and settings, so get those right and you won't have issues. Versatility: the footprint is such that I made my own raised feet, bed, risers, and enclosure. It's sturdy, yet simplistic. The easy switch between laser head and rotary tools are smart. And with Ortur offering a new 20W laser, you can swap. I purchased a dialed riser from Etsy. There are other tools people make to accommodate this laser. Support: Ortur themselves are great at support. They are timely and willing to make your experience a good one. The Facebook support group is a gem. The people offer feedback, advice, free files, and are quick to answer questions. Even Ortur is a part of the group! This has been one of the better tool purchases I've made. So much so, I'm already thinking about the 20W laser! ... show more

  • Accurate and built like a tank laser plus reliable Wi-Fi interface
I bought the Ortur Master 3 to create marquetry and inlay artworks made of wood veneers. It's 10W laser is more than enough to cut wood veneers. I used an addon for CorelDraw to do inlay, which demand high cutting accuracy, so I put this laser to the test. Accuracy is equal to an Epilog laser. The cut pieces assembled tight with no visible gaps. Diode laser cut wood veneer cleaner than CO2 laser. Backlash is so small not measurable with my gauge. It has air assist port which further reduces burnt mark. Wi-fi works great if Wi-Fi is set to 2.5 Gb/s because it was design for this rate. USB support is also reliable. One advantage of using diode laser vs. CO2 laser is the cut is more vertical, that is due to the diode laser beam has low dispersion angle compared to CO2 laser. Software such as LaserGRBL, LightBurn, ImagePaint addon for CorelDraw all works with this Ortur laser. One distinct feature in ImagePaint that no other software has is the ability for users to simulate the inlay (marquetry) artwork before cutting. Also ImagePaint automatically create cutter paths to compensate for laser Kerf and other technics to produce a perfect fit. This software costs $100US. You should download an try it on www.amazoncanvas.com. The pictures show the down-draft jig my friend built for me. It is 1.75 inches thick, 24 inches wide and 29 inches in length. The hose is 1.5" diameter and is attached to a shop vac to pull the smoke down, effectively reduce airborne smoke to about 95%, so I don't need to build or buy an enclosure for the laser. The honeycomb tray is make of steel which is great for using magnets to hold down the veneers. So, don't buy aluminum honeycomb tray. Overall, this is the best buy for the money. ... show more

  • This thing is garbage
You can't even use it because the manual is such junk it doesn't help resolve error codes. So you're supposed to upgrade your firmware, but when you go to their site they have two options, one for the LM3 and one for the LM3 LE which is what I guess this is? But the file is too big to upgrade, so I did the other one, which makes sense since the upgrade notes were "fixes issue with file to big for upgrade" ok, so I did that then the machine was bricked and would flash red and green and beep loudly several times in a loop. So I went ahead and did the other upgrade now and it immediately turned the machine off but I didn't get the file too big warning so the last one must have worked...not sure why it was beeping so loud. Now it wont do anything but flash red and green alternating with loud beeping and guess what the manual doesn't tell me what that means or how to fix it. ... show more

  • Takes some patience, but works great once you figure it out
The patience part: First off, there are plenty of reviews complaining about connection to the free APP. I had trouble at first, but found a couple of things that make the difference. 1. The network MUST be 2.4Ghz. I tried a dedicated router at first (2.4 Ghz), and found it conflicted with my regular network. 2. When the instructions say to press the button 5 times to enter the discovery mode for the WiFi, you need to press 5 times fast, as in less than 2 seconds. After that, no issues with the app running on an Ipad and running the machine. Assembly is a bit beyond basic skills IMO, as you need to properly tension drive belts and properly route and connect wires. Good part: I got a bundle with metal cards, wooden tags and nickels, coasters, etc. I have never used a laser machine before, but quickly found the APP sets up easily just by selecting the material. I etched some of the cards and wood parts. Changing the number of passes will cut deeper into the wood. Tips: I have my machine on a work table with a "luxury vinyl" planked top. I was having trouble aligning the print job to be square and straight. I 3D printed some rings that were then nailed to the work table, with the machine feet sitting inside the rings. This means the machine doesn't move. Then I let the laser etch the size of the metal business card (so far) right into the table top surface. As long as I place my job in the same place in the app, I can just sit that metal card right on the spot marked by the machine. For other things where squareness isn't an issue, just place it on the rubber mat included in the bundle. FYI, don't try to cut circuit boards, they put off toxins. I would suggest not even using this in the house if you have other options. For my first LASER machine, I am very happy with it so far. ... show more
