Ok, I have about 5 pruners now. I work at a landscape supply company and my current pruners range from a mediocre Fisk to pretty decent Felco as my last purchase. All but the Fisk are bypass pruners and I’m not gonna lie, I use them for branches that are too big, too fresh or too dry. I mean, who wants to stop and grab the long handled pruners when clipping along so to speak. So, I get pruners stuck in branches, a lot. Instead of developing proper usage techniques I started looking into anvil pruners. Let’s face it, the best pruners are from other countries and I will pay for quality. American made would be great, but I’m not paying some shill company that instead of asking the question of how can we make this better, instead asks how can we shave off quality to increase cost margins. Now off the soapbox and back to this review. Germans are often known for making good tools and this is one of them. Fits well in the hand, check. Can be sharpened, check. Well balanced, check. And cuts damn good, check. The benefit of the anvil cut vs. bypass makes this a great tool if you are maintaining some property with a fair amount of pruning. Does it still get stuck, yes. But twisting and forcing doesn’t cause near the flex of the bypass pruner. The lock is simple but functional. The cut is clean and what more can you ask for. Before I review the anvil pruner, let me say that reviewing a tool after a few days is a bit premature. Ask me in a year, and I can give a complete answer. HAVING SAID THAT, I really like this pruner. It cuts easily compared to the last pruner I purchased a week or so ago which lasted 75 minutes before breaking (and also had a small sweet spot). It also cuts more efficiently than the Fiskars anvil pruner that I loved which typically lasted me one year before breaking as well. It has a much wider "sweet spot". I own two LÖWE pruners: This LÖWE hybrid bypass-style (model 8.107) and the LÖWE anvil-style (model 1.104). Unmistakably, the anvil-style model 1.104 cuts through thick branches with less force and more ease than the bypass-style. Based on my use experience of these two LÖWE pruners, I estimate the anvil-style cuts through thick branches with around 25% less force than the bypass-style. The anvil-style also costs less than the hybrid bypass style. On the other hand, the hybrid bypass-style has a more pointed tip that may be better for getting into tight areas. ... show more

Great, sharp pruner -- I like it a lot EXCEPT the handles are very slippery. Had to take some heavy duty sandpaper to roughen them up -- otherwise, they slip out of your gloved hands, which is a real problem when you're trying to do a lot of work and need to work efficiently.
