  • fabulous toothbrush for sensitive teeth, but instructions are laughably bad
I LOVE this toothbrush! Years ago I tried a more expensive Phillips electric toothbrush and never really got the hang of it. I like that with this Oral-B one, the handle is really stable and doesn't shake or rattle against your teeth. The Phillips one really bothered me that way. Also this one isn't too loud. I really like the small round brush head. A lot of standard size toothbrushes are too large for me, but this is perfect! I have very sensitive teeth at the gum line which makes me really wary of anything scrubbing too hard, but this doesn't hurt at all! I've only been using it on the first setting so far. My teeth definitely felt cleaner after the first use, and even look a bit brighter and shinier! Wonderful feeling, makes me want to use it every day. My main complaints are - the instructions are absolutely inscrutable, and I'm someone who's put together tons of Ikea furniture. I literally laughed out loud - it was so big it felt like unfolding a map, and and yet it told me literally nothing. I am not a regular user of electric toothbrushes. I am not familiar with these things. I need some help here! I still don't understand the difference between the two brush heads included - they aren't labeled and there's no info. I went to the product page on their website and it's not much more enlightening (normally you can click through to a pdf of the manual). I can't believe a major brand is selling anything technical / electronic at this price point without better instructions. After much googling, I *think* the more gentle brush head is the plain looking one with white outer bristles, and the other brush head with the slanted bristles is the... other one. "Ultimate Clean." Sigh. I can only use "soft" bristle manual toothbrushes (bc of sensitivity / pain), but both of these brush heads have been just fine for me. Also, how / where do you store the brush heads? The bottom is slanted, so they don't stand up. One other complaint - how do you travel with this?! There's no way to keep it from accidentally getting turned on in your luggage. It needs a lock / off switch. ... show more

  • Dental clean feeling
I have used several electric toothbrushes over the years. This electric toothbrush does a great job at cleaning my teeth. Every time I finish brushing my teeth with this toothbrush it feels like I just got a cleaning done at the dentist. The toothbrush has three different settings to choose from; Extra gentle, gentle and every day cleaning. The battery lasts a long time ( I still have not have the need to recharge it). I like that there is a 30 second timer that vibrates letting you know to change quadrants while you're brushing your teeth. Overall, you cant go wrong with this toothbrush. ... show more

  • quiter than older Oral-B Pro 1000, and should last longer
The media could not be loaded. I've been using an Oral-B Pro 1000 for about 6 years and the battery on it does not last long anymore. I ordered this iO series 2 as a replacement. I think it's the lowest-end version of the iO, so it doesn't have the little icons that show what mode it is in or app capabilities. I don't know what might differentiate the cleaning ability of the iO line from earlier Oral-B toothbrushes, but there are a couple of more obvious improvements. The first is that it is quiter, which is nice. It also has 3 speeds (but doesn't seem to remember which one you want). More important, though, is that it uses a standard battery that isn't soldered in. The manual includes instructions on how to remove the battery, though it claims that "This appliance contains batteries that are non-replaceable. The appliance has no user serviceable parts. Do not open and disassemble device except when disposing of the battery." But ... I'm pretty confident it would be simple to replace it, and I've seen reports of people doing it on previously released iO models. I would suggest not opening it until the battery needs replacing, or something else goes wrong, because you might break something or void the warranty. But once it needs fixing out-of-warranty - why not? It beats having to order a new brush and creating more e-waste (like I have done now, since the Oral-B Pro 1000 has a soldered in battery). One negative is the high cost of Oral-B replacement heads. There are, however, cheaper 3rd party heads available. They might say they only work with iO 3+, but those listings were probably written before the iO2 was released. I have some that I find too stiff, but I imagine others are out there. ... show more

  • Best home teeth clean you'll get
I've been using an Oral-B rechargeable for about 5 years, and it was time for a new one. This one comes with 2 styles of brush, a single one each. I didn't notice much difference between the two, but they both work fairly well. The battery will hold a charge for several days between recharging, so you don't necessarily need to take the base on a trip, in fact I typically charge it, then unplug it, use it until the light flashes and plug it in again. This may have helped my original brush last longer, as the battery is not easily replaceable which I would consider the one big negative. A couple other negatives being the size, and the replacement heads can get pricey unless you go off-brand. Given that it is the best home brushing-ness I can find, it isn't enough to take stars off for me, but Oral-B should allow battery swaps and perhaps have better pricing on their brush heads. ... show more
