Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Pre-Workout Powder: I purchased this for my Son to use before lifting weights but he didn’t like it. My husband, who works out at the gym 5 days a week, decided to give it a try as he’s never tried such a thing. He loves it! I put one scoop in a 32 ounce water bottle the night before. I feel by doing this it gives the powder time to truly settle. It does call for mixing it in 6-8 ounces of water. I think the strong taste that some reviews write about is due to it being in too little water. 32 vs 6-8 is quite a difference but it works perfectly for my husband. He loves blueberries & says the taste is just right with it being in 32 ounces of water. He feels it would be too strong if it was in 6-8 ounces. He begins to drink it on the way to the gym. He tells me within less than 5 minutes he feels an energy boost like he never had before. The mixture of caffeine, creatine monohydrate & beta-alanine is just right to provide the necessary stamina to begin his workout routine. He finishes off the water bottle as he begins to work out & reverts to regular water. He loves the energy & focus this provides. What I love about this powder is the added supplements. My husband isn’t one to take a men’s multivitamin. I’m all for it. This powder has Vitamin D, Thiamin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Vitamin B12, Pantothenic Acid & Calcium. All great supplements for a man who doesn’t take a multivitamin! For all the positives this offers the price is well worth it! This is now a permanent staple in his workout regime. He says he feels a workout high he hadn’t before. A win-win! I utilize Amazon’s subscribe & save so I save a little more $ & it comes automatically each month. My son loves this pre-workout mix! The flavor is good and doesn’t have a weird aftertaste. I tried some and agree! Doesn’t make you jittery, either.

It was a decent pre-workout, the taste Can be a bit better you can totally taste the creatine in it right away. And that’s exactly why I gave this one a shot for the creatine. It took about two weeks for me to actually feel the creatine in my muscles, and see a physical growth and water intake due to it. So I’d say the creatine does work. As far as the pre-workout, it would be mediocre. I would sus I didn’t feel it much if any st all. Sometimes I’d extra-scoop the dose and didn’t get much of an effect. But it was very mild. I would say this is perfect for someone who is not big on pre-workouts, or getting the jitters. You can definitely feel the creatine over the pre-workout so if you want to do it for that, this is a great choice. Low caffeine level, not jitters, very low Pre-workout, good creatine. I've never used any kind of workout supplements before. I love working out, esp lifting, but struggle with diagnosed chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. So often I mentally want to throw some weights around, but my body just fights me so hard on it. I wanted to try something that might give me that little extra oomf to get me going, and this definitely does! I researched a lot of products trying to decide what to try. My main considerations were reputable, lower caffeine, a decent amount of creatine, and cost-effective. I got the blueberry flavor bc for some reason it was cheaper than the others. It doesn't taste amazing, but I wasn't looking for something tasty. I just mix it in about 4oz of juice and chug it. Since I've never taken anything like this before I've been starting with half a scoop. For reference I am female, 5'4, a beefy 200lbs (the pandemic was not kind to me!). The first time I took it I couldn't tell if it was working, placebo, or if I was just having a good day, but I did notice a mild difference. The second time is what's prompting such a thorough review. I just finished a routine focusing on shoulders, hamstrings, and glutes. I woke up with a migraine today and so working out was dubious, but I decided to see if taking this would prompt me to. I exceeded what I wanted to accomplish today! I hit every square centimeter of my shoulders, added in extra deadlift and bridge reps, and when I finished every possible move I could think of, I still had more juice, so grabbed some 2lb weights and just danced for about 10 minutes, throwing in kicks and punches. 9 times out of 10 if I try to work out with a migraine the pain gets exponentially worse, but that didn't happen despite really exerting myself. I only stopped bc I am worried about pushing too far and regretting it later, and that's maybe the con of this -- it can be easy to miss your limit, esp if you're someone who has chronic pain/fatigue. We'll see what happens when the buzz wears off, but right now I feel amazing despite not wanting to even get off the couch an hour prior to my workout. I have nothing to compare this to since this is my first time, but I am freakin sold! ... show more
