  • It's worth the upgrade from my Leaf 2.
Color: Black
It's worth the upgrade from my Leaf 2. Twice the RAM makes the Go 7 run noticeably faster. Double the storage allows me to store more Chirp audio books. It also lets me run more apps in dark mode. As with any Boox device, it works best after some tweaks are made. How-To-Do videos and discussions explaining the details can be found on the web. The monochrome screen is better for general daytime reading than Boox color screens, or LED tablets. Nighttime reading is about the same as on all Boox frontlit screens. For best results, go into the Eink Center and try different settings for different apps. For example, for some apps Contrast Off works better than Contrast On. If you prefer to have the buttons on the left, you can rotate the device and they work fine. Kobo and Kindle work well, after making some adjustments. Most other reading and audiobook apps worked without adjustments. Managing books using the Calibre program works well. You can change the order of your app icons on the home page and other pages. It’s another well-hidden option. The Notes app is hidden. Once located, the Notes app works without a stylus if you choose a Text note, and type; both the onscreen keyboard and a Bluetooth keyboard work well. For some simple functions such as for highlighting, tapping, dragging, and quick notes in the memo app, the plain capacitive stylus I use with my Leaf 2 does work with the Go 7. Eventually, I may get a USI2.0 stylus which is required for handwriting and drawing. The SD card I added was immediately detected and has been working correctly for several days so far. ... show more

  • It's Perfect ... as long as you understand what it is and is not ....
Color: White
If you know what this is ... it's nearly perfect. I read a lot of online content. Some long form some short form some RSS. A Kindle with Amazon's walled-garden approach simply isn't the right tool for me. I've used a Kindle for years via workarounds, but consistently found myself gravitating to my phone for reading because of all the friction caused by these workarounds. My first day with this device was emotional ... I am quite technical and I frankly I was frustrated. That said, much of this frustration was admitedly impatience. I walked away a few times because of it. For the first week of use I'd tackle a "pain point" or two at each sitting. Now ... a few weeks later ... and this device is very finely tuned for my needs. It's a pleasure to use it. In other words, expect some pain around setup and initial usage. Expect to need to Google/Redit some solutions for your use case. But, the pain is worth it. Note, I debated between the color and black and white version. I'm really glad I chose the B&W version. While color photos are nice, I'm not a Manga guy so it isn't really "required". The quick refresh time, reduced ghosting, higher DPI all make B&W a better choice (in my opinion). When I really need to see something in color, I pull the article up on my phone (I use Readwise Reader for much of my reading so everything is fully sync'd). ... show more

  • A nearly perfect minimalist e-ink tablet—with one baffling design decision
Color: Black
The Onyx Boox Go 7 is one of the most elegant, focused e-ink tablets I’ve used. It’s featherlight, fast, and practically begs to be carried everywhere. The matte black-and-white screen is crisp and clean, perfect for reading, jotting down ideas, and staying distraction-free. This is the kind of device that makes you want to work offline. But let’s talk about the pen situation—because it’s the one big caveat, and it’s not immediately obvious in the product listing. Unlike many other Boox models (like the Air 4C that I have), the Go 7 does not support battery-free Wacom EMR styluses. That means those lovely battery-free pens—like my Staedtler Noris Digital Jumbo—won’t work here. Instead, the Go 7 uses a different pen technology (an active capacitive stylus) that requires charging and pairing, and doesn’t come included. Why the switch? It seems to be a tradeoff for making the device slimmer and lighter. Wacom EMR needs a dedicated digitizer layer under the screen, which adds thickness and cost. The Go 7 opts for a more compact build and modern touchscreen tech, but at the cost of compatibility and the magical never-needs-charging pens so many of us love. I haven’t bought a new stylus for it yet because, honestly, I haven’t found one that feels as satisfying as my Noris. So right now, I’m using the Go 7 mostly for reading and admiring its flawless design—while side-eyeing its decision to break ranks with much of the rest of the Boox lineup. Still: if you’re new to e-ink or don’t mind picking up a separate active stylus, it’s a stellar little device. But if you’re a longtime Boox user with a cherished pen collection? Know before you buy: this one doesn’t come to the reunion. ... show more

  • So far i love it❤️
Color: Black
There is definitely a learning curve. It’s not like a kindle when you turn it on and it’s ready to go, with this device you have to play with the settings until you find what works for you. It’s not that hard to figure out though. i love the buttons! They feel sturdy. It is lighter than a kindle paperwhite. Once you figure out your settings, you can figure out how to make it look as neat as a kindle and not grainy. Fair warning though, it does shut off completely after a while of not being used to save battery life. First time i noticed, it had shut off after having the device on its normal lock screen ,it freaked me out but after some research i figured how to disable that feature and why it did it to begin with. Battery life is not like a kindle but if you have no problem charging your phone once a day then you shouldn’t have any problems charging it once every week. So far i love it!!❤️ ... show more
