This is a convenient lock that will secure a bike in a public area or lock up helmets and jackets to a motorcycle. The combo easily sets to whatever 4-digit code you wish, and the self coiling feature helps it stay in one place when not in use (mine came with a fastener to clip it to a bicycle). I've found the "uncoiled" cables sometimes cumbersome when trying to roll them back up and store when no longer needed. The company rates this a "30" on a security scale of 10 to 100. I have 3 prior versions of the same lock. All have worked perfectly for years. The one I purchased October 2020 is more cheaply made. More specifically the lock cylinder is cheap. Numbers do not rotate easily and impossible to change the combination from original because inside cylinder mechanism is so cheap if does not rotate to change combo. Do not buy. ... show more

This 12mm cable lock seems and feels very solid compared to other brands including the very well known. Easy to change the combination, big dials.... but 2 things to point out (which costed 1 star) are 1) combination lock is way too big...not sure if it really needs to be that big. it's the cable that will be cut if anyone want to steal my bike and it will be cut in a second with a bolt cutter anyway, not the lock..unless this was designed for senior citizens with ailing vision. 2) the mounting bracket is a joke...way to week and fragile. it broke the first time I tried it. ---- after a month of very light use --- I dropped another star because, this lock is falling apart. To be more exact the big bulging plastic parts on both sides of the lock is literally falling apart in many pieces. It appears that they're hollow covers with very thin, multiple pieces put together.... at first, I thought they were molded solid chunk of plastic for added (?) protection but it's just for that illusional look. regardless, these plastic illusions make the lock more secure or less secure but it was a bummer to find out the true hollowness (?) of this design. ... show more

Works fine. Onguard has a lot of options, look first what will be your propose, because this is heavy, of course it's because it's long and strong, don't have miracle, if you need something strong and long, will be more heavy than another.

Too easy to cut. My son’s bike was locked to a bike rack at college and the next morning the bike lock had been cut and his bike was stolen. Only would recommend for very limited use, where you are not relying on it to be secured against someone who can walk up and cut through with a pair of bolt cutters! ... show more

I liked the length of the cable but the locking mechanism was a bit wonky for the dozen or so times I got to use it before it broke. Sometimes it would spin easily and sometimes it would be a little difficult to turn some of the numbers. This was a little annoying but usable until a recent camping trip when I had locked our bikes to a metal post. When I went to unlock the bikes the numbers where very hard to spin and the lock would not open despite attempts to line it up in various positions. Unfortunately no one in the camp ground had bolt cutters and it was a couple hour drive to the nearest hardware store. So I had to spend a frustrating 30 or so minutes pulling the plastic numbers off with a screw driver and pliers so I could access the defective mechanism and rip it apart. When I got home I grabbed my bolt cutters out of curiosity to see how sturdy the cable was. They went through it like a hot knife through butter. ... show more

One failed in 2 weeks. Could not insert or retract without significant force. Also, the tumblers became difficult to rotate. The second one could not be set up by a very intelligent guy who fixes motorcycles and programs a chemical plant control system.
