  • Epic piece of equipment [but don't use the bag]
Took it on my first solo tour, a little 400 mile venture, and it exceeded expectations. I had a nasty wreck into a 4 foot ditch at speed, and the Maya took the impact without so much as a dent. For perspective, the wreck was so bad that my rear bike wheel was bent into a banana shape. Here's a quick summary. Pros: pulls quietly and efficiently the welds are sturdy the kickstand is AWESOME detachable hub is AWESOME -- left my gear at the campsite and rode around town without the drag solid steel can be repaired easily Cons: provided bag is too big -- will pop horizontal side bars if filled with gear the instructions are a nightmare -- even my local bike shop was perplexed provided trailer tire is kinda cheapo, but it survived the tour OVERALL: If properly outfitted by the user, this trailer is better than the competition in price, long term durability, and convenience. Highly recommend. Good luck figuring out how to set it up for the first time. ... show more

  • Great little trailer for the price!
I am planning a cross country bicycle ride from Bangor, ME to Bangor, WA. So, I will update my review after it has been on the road for 3,500 miles. After spending nearly 2 days looking at different bike trailers, one-wheel, two-wheel, different ways they attach, weight, agility, etc. AND watching youtube videos of each one. I decided to go with the Maya Bicycle trailer for a few reasons. One of the big reasons I picked Maya is the price of course. I have used 2 other expensive bike trailers, and found the Maya to be just as superior (if not more so) than some of it's competitors, and for half the price! The Maya is also, slightly more light weight than the other trailers, which probably shouldn't matter if your loading up with groceries or bikepacking. I think the features of the trailer will be really useful on my long journey, I already don't know how i would be managing the awkward disconnecting of the trailer with the kickstand! The kickstand on the trailer holds everything upright, even your bike! SO, you aren't always needing to find someplace to lean everything up against, or having to lay your bike down. Which also makes for VERY easy quick release. Then, when you have been riding all day and are to tired to carry your gear, flip the arms around and use the 'wheel barrow' feature to wheel your gear over to camp. The only other big thing I noticed while using the Maya, is the turning ability. The other expensive trailers use a 'V' type arm to connect the bike to the trailer, which I think limits it's ability to turn. You would notice, turning, the arm will stop against the front of the trailer, and you have to take wider turns. The Maya trailer has a single arm, not a 'V' shape that connects the bike, so it seems to give it slightly more clearance over the frame of the trailer, and helps it turn better. Just don't overload the trailer. I threw 50 pounds of lifting weights on the first ride, and it rode like a ghost! But I could feel it in some of the turns. All in all, i am a pretty picky person when it comes to my gear, and I think you WILL be happy with this trailer around town for sure! I will let you know how cross country goes! I Leave August 2015. ... show more

  • Works well but some quality issues
I purchased this bike trailer in May 2019 (over 3 years ago) and have used it on three 3-day bike camping trips. Following the advice of others, I purchased the better quality quick release https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQOS3YO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and a better quality tire https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FTD9SPK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This of course increased the cost, which is still pretty reasonable. I attach it to my 2016 Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc hybrid bike (700cm wheels)... i leave the quick release replacement installed all the time, which works just fine (make sure wing nuts are tight). I measure the total weight of all the components at 15 pounds. Overall I like the design, it generally follows effortlessly behind the bike, it's low center of gravity helping keep things stable. The bag holds my sleeping bag, tent, air mattress, foodbag and some clothes... i still need some small panniers for other stuff such as water. Some negatives: The design and manufacture of the bag caused a weird badly sewed end of the zipper (basically a design problem of the bag) which I worked around with some loose stitches. The skinny side rails cracked off on one end after my last trip (on both sides)... not a show stopper, but may eventually give problems (work around is to have enough bungies holding things together)... perhaps a welding shop could come up with a proper fix. ... show more
