I really wanted sunlight in our bathroom. This helped tremendously as the sheer curtain I picked out was too see through- you can’t see through the window at all now! Like others said, my husband sprayed it until it was soaked. Installation was easy and fast (although he’s in construction so he’s WAY faster at these things than I would be. If time goes on and it peels or gets air bubbles, I’ll update the review but as of right now it’s 5 stars for an extremely affordable upgrade! Edited to add: after a few days there are a few hard to notice air bubbles in the corners and edges of some of the window squares. This is VERY possibly due to the corners not being cleaned as well as the middle, so I would say just make sure you clean the window very well anywhere the film will lay! ... show more

    • Removing the backing film was NOT easy
Well that took a forever amount of time. No word yet on whether or not it will help with heat control. Anyhow I could not gracefully get the backing to peel off. Fingernails, no. Thin blade, no. Could not get it started. Finally after half an hour & in desperation I cut into a corner & tore it like a savage. That did it. Could finally see the film, grab hold of it, & get it off. What everyone else said, plus: subtle sparkles! It's not constant, but when the outside light hits it in a certain way, it reminds me of how some beaches have sand that sparkles a bit. I previously had a different Coavas window film - the design that looks sort of striped, like a venetian blind effect. That one turned out to be less private than I needed, because of the alternating clear stripes. However what I loved about that film was how the "white" stripes (the color is actually named "Pure") had a bright sparkle to them. When I decided to get a solid frost instead, I didn't pay attention to which brand I got and ended up with something perfectly acceptable except ... no sparkles! I tried to live with it but not only did I miss the sparkles, the other brand's white frost just looked dingey to me; light in coming seemed dull; definitely not lively and bright like I wanted. So I ordered once again, only this time I got the Coavas Frosted Pure and ta-dah, there's my sparkles! REGARDING PHOTO: I recycled the film I didn't want -- DIY window clings with the kids. :) ... show more

    • Easy to fake home update plus keep peepers away

I live in a city where houses are right on top of one another. There are a lot of unsavory types around and i'd like to keep them from peeping me or my stuff. Normally I use blinds and curtains in the winter months when it's dark most of the time, but in the summer, i want as much light as possible but not put on a show for any dirtbag walking by. This stuff is rad. Goes up easily and covers, while obscuring people's view into your home. Lets in a lot of natural light without allowing UV rays to harm your carpet and whatnot. If you don't own one, get a cutting board with guide from a craft store and a decent X-acto knife. They're cheap. They'll help you cut evenly so you don't waste material or have uneven edges. Clean your glass first. Don't skip this. Then spray thoroughly with water. Use a squeegee to gently remove bubbles and smooth film. Prob should have mentioned remove the backup before applying film--if you spray with water. the backing kind of peels away much easier than if dry. I did the bottom half of upstairs double pane windows -fyi 1 roll does 1 average window...maybe two, but i'd go with 1 and just buy the extra rolls just in case. I'm pretty pleased with the results. i'm seeing some other things i may also try--use on basement window to create that frosted block look, maybe cover the glass shelving in a brass/glass étagère(yea i know not modern but i love kitschy retro). I saw a review that a guy used it on his car moonroof--i mean there's a ton of rad ideas you can do with this stuff besides as window privacy film. Pretty impressed with this product. I added the privacy film to the bottom half of our windows that look onto our porch. I wanted to block delivery drivers from looking into our office, but still have natural light in the room. It worked great! The photos shows one of the windows completed. Privacy: You can still see items directly in front of the window (ex: our porch chairs, about 6" from the window), but the view is much more distorted the further you get away from the window (ex: the edge of our porch, about 5-6' from the window). I'm very happy with the amount of privacy it provides up close and far away! Installation: Installation was a breeze. Measure twice, cut once. You'll want to cut the film just slightly smaller than the window to make it sit flat against the glass. I used regular glass cleaner in a spray bottle to ahere my film. Use so much spray that the liquid is dripping down, attach the film, then use a credit card to smooth out the bubbles. Excess liquid will drip to the bottom and just wipe it up with a towel. I couldn't get about a half inch of the very bottom to stick as it kept wanting to curl, which is most likely because the roll itself is smaller in diameter and the film is used to being curled. If I really wanted to make every single inch stick to the window, I could have cut the film, put something heavy on the curling ends and waited a few days, but the 1/2" that's not attached hasn't been a problem. I installed these two weeks ago and they look exactly like they did on day 1 of installation. No additional peeling or bubbles (despite all the sunlight they receive) have formed. My aloe plant next to the window (not pictured) is still thriving despite the film. ... show more

I really wanted an option to a curtain. This was ok for the window I could remove to put it on but for a window that is higher up and can not be removed not so easy. Patience is a virtue for sure. I would not want to tackle a large window on my own.
