  • Museum putty trick
As others have mentioned, if you are using this to hold a condenser microphone the base is not heavy enough to balance it. I put some museum putty under the base and it holds the stand steady on my desk. Museum putty only costs a few bucks and is non-damaging and easily removable.

  • Not very strong
I have to keep a heavy weight on the base or it can't support my microphone set up. And where the adjustment is for the mic, it doesn't tighten enough to keep the setup where I set it tilt-wise

  • So here's something I didn't think about...
I'm using this stand to mic a guitar amplifier where the center of the speaker is about 8 inches off the surface that the amp is sitting on. I want the stand bent over with the mic pointing to the side, so the arm is parallel to the face of the amp and the stand is out of the way. I've had a couple other stands (not sure where they are - I seem to have lost them in a move) and one thing I didn't think about when I ordered this one was what direction the mic would be pointing based on how the mic holder screws on. When I tightened the mic holder on, it was pointing the right direction for its intended use - sitting in front of someone with the mic pointing straight forward. I'm not sure if that was just coincidence or if the thread orientation is somehow standardized. Anyway, to get the mic pointing to the side, I had to really tighten it down, a little more than I was comfortable with. On a true boom mic stand with an adjustable length arm, you just put the mic holder on however tight you want it and then just rotate the boom when you adjust the length/position. That's not an option on is stand. Aside from that, it seems okay. It's compact, the base is heavy and the "quik release" adjustment isn't quicker than a traditional joint but it seems secure. But if I could do it again, I would try the Samson MB1 stand instead. ... show more

  • Tips over
I own another one (two actually) of these desktop mic stands that does not have a boom and I actually really like them. But this falls over with a Sure MV7 on it. The Sure mic needs to be up at your mouth and only then has a really good sound to it. This was sadly one of the few options on the market that might have done the trick aside from a clunky big spring loaded arm, that I can't attach to my wall flush granite desk top. I'd like to see onstage make another version of this with a SOLID base that can really hold the boom. This is not a rocket science product. They can deliver on this if they choose to. ... show more

  • Good for use on desktop with Audio-Technica AT2020
I purchased this to use in conjunction with an Audio-Technica AD 2020 USB condenser microphone that according to its specification weighs 2.6 pounds. I replaced the base that came with with a Samson SAMD5 standard base that I also purchased here on Amazon. It is heavier and has a much nicer appearance and finish than the On Stage stand's base. It balances the microphone adequately, a large part of that is what angle you adjust the arm affecting the center of gravity - so your mileage may vary depending on mic weight and angle. The machining and overall quality are fine. It came with a large "On Stage" sticker that was crooked and unsightly, and a white bar code sticker that was also unsightly. I removed them and used GooGone to remove the residual adhesive. It did not damage the black powder coating. I use mic for Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice recognition software and being able to place the microphone accurate has improved the accuracy. ... show more

  • One mod and it’s perfect!
I have purchased several of these stands as the posi-lock feature is great and the arm is perfect to reach out at a distance. Of course like others, using a heavy condenser mic caused it to be unstable due to the weight and leverage/cantilever. Simple solution: bought a 5 lb cast iron weight (1” hole smooth sides), some 15mm rare earth magnets and adhesive back felt cloth. Remove the rubber feet and put one layer of felt on mic stand bottom (cut round with scissors). Also add felt to one side of the 5 lb weight. Place 5-7 magnets on the weight opposite felt and then attach base to magnets. It’s sturdy and doesn’t tip at any angle. Works with the heil PR40 or MXL 990 perfectly. Extremely stable and it’s about a $12 mod. ... show more

  • Great for practical Use
I bought this with the intention on putting my bass drum mic on it. However I learned i got a better tone with the mic placed almost 3 inches away from the battier head, so this made this stand pretty useless at first I though. Then me and my lead guy came up with an excellent use for this "desk" mic stand. Instead of him draping his mic over his guitar amp he used this to position the mic in different positions for more of a studio look and this was perfect. It was probably the best sound he had gotten out of his amp since we had been gigging. So if you don't want to drop $30 on a small boom mic stand then this is an excellent buy. The base is solid and heavy and the small "boom" swivel arm is easy to adjust and holds very well so long as you don't try to hang a 7lb condenser mic off of it. ... show more

  • Good product with some minor flaws.
Overall, these mic stands are good but there are some issues. First of all, it will tip over with a nudge even while holding a ball mic so I wouldn't trust this if you are looking to hook up larger mics/condenser mics. The base needs a little more weight to add some sturdiness. The rubber feet on the base seem to be slightly uneven. So if the mic is on a completely flat table it might wobble a little bit which is very annoying. The one thing that is very solid and I actually love is the knob to adjust the boom of the stand. That really is a fantastic design. I bought two of these, they are good, but just beware that you could end up slightly annoyed with them at times. ... show more
