  • Best performance per dollar
Very powerful machine for the price. I have had the heat and throttling issues stated in most reviews. During CPU benchmarks the clocks drop to around 3.3Ghz once hot then fans kick in (Performance mode, loud) and drop temps to around mid to high 70° which brings the clocks back up to 4Ghz sustained after a -0.150mV undervolt. Very impressed with GPU results as well. Metro Exodus is my latest benchmark game (demanding as well) and I'm getting 70fps on Ultra and 58fps on RTX settings. I play the game on Extreme settings with Ray Tracing enabled and its butter smooth. Monitor looks great and responsive. G-Sync on a laptop is impressive. Gets plenty bright but does not seem as bright as the online reviews claim. Colorful. I can see how they got the price down on this laptop and that's with build quality. Feels a bit flimsy and plastic. Hinge style makes the screen shake real easy. Keyboard feels good but the lighting is a joke. Very dim, only 4 zones and only ON or OFF without different levels of brightness. Coming from a Razer Blade Pro 17 this is a huge step down in build quality. I am able to look past that because of the performance of this laptop. Just know that it is a full size gaming laptop and not one of those thin guys. Excellent product at this price. Update 2/23/20: I have experienced the issue of GPU not being detected therefore making the laptop useless to me. Not sure what caused the issue but once it happened I Googled and found out that this is pretty widespread among this laptop. Some of these reviews mention it as well. Ultimately, I was able to fix this issue and laptop working like a charm but for someone less experienced or less patient might write it off as a dead machine. Driver issue. A weird one. ... show more

  • Pros and cons
This laptop is thick and heavy af , and when you gaming for five minutes, it hot as boiled water, also it sounds like the same as the helicopter takes off. The good thing is when I play the mainstream games(COD, Pubg, CSGO, Overwatch, and LOL), the FPS is stable at 150+, which really shows me how powerful the RTX 2080 is. The disk memory is also another problem, probably you need to buy SSD drive. A stand is also an important thing for you, as long as you are located in the south part of the country, I really care about what if the laptop burns itself due to high temperature. Overall, it's a good laptop for you to play the games, someone said the laptop graphic performance level should be cut off at least 30% which compared to desktop graphics, so just treat it like a 2060 super XD. ... show more

  • Performance bargain. Form and Function!
Graphics card uninstalled it's self. Made me panic a bit but I determined the problem to to be the PCIE controller and uninstalled the pcie controller drivers and upon reboot, windows reinstalled the pcie driver, and again was able to detect and use the 2080. Thank God. Has worked spectacularly since that snafuu. Also it has hung up 3-4 times not sure if that is the laptop or my games fault. Screen is great, speakers are decent for laptop speakers (no bass but sound accurate/pleasant). I have not stopped admiring how attractive and sleek the design is. Weight and size are also in a great range for the class of hardware this is. Update 5+ years later!: Laptop is still performing spectacularly. With the addition of a powerful laptop forced air chill mat, cooling is no longer a problem at all. Along with a GPU and CPU repaste, installation of 32Gb of better timed Kingston Fury RAM, a nice large Samsung M.2 SSD and an undervolt to the CPU and CPU cache, the laptop is running noticeably better than it did the day I bought it. Custom curved the voltage/frequency GPU circle and over locked the VRAM. I also re-thermal padded the SSD heatspreader and drilled a grid of small holes into the bottom cover to allow airflow to that area, which dropped the SSD temps from about 80c(!) to about 40c. That was huge. Just got a TimeSpy score of 9870 last night. The undervolt allows me to stay under the CPU long term power limit of 65w and maintain max turbo for ever at about 70-72C. The only thing holding it back are the locked core frequency multipliers. Anyway, it's been a workhorse for years and I'm very happy with its performance. ... show more

  • What battery life???
Fully charged, the battery will only last for a little over an hour. And, yes, I'm in battery saver mode. Something isn't right.

  • Top tier gaming performance at a great price.
Laptop works great! Runs any game I throw at it at high or ultra settings with FPS of a 100 or more. You must keep it plugged in though. You can game for about 45 mins to one hour before the battery gets to about 30 percent. If your doing light computer work then you can get about 3-4 hours on the battery. Overall for the price you can’t beat it. Any other comparable gaming laptop costs 300 or more dollars more than this HP Omen. ... show more

  • Does not work well with NDI Cameras
Update: I talked to HP Support and they fixed it quite quickly. Apparently it was a problem with Microsoft update and other people here have said the same thing. They uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics card and it has worked fine for over a week. They said the MS update issue should get addressed since they have made the issue know to MS. Original review: I have been having great difficulty getting NDI cameras to work on this machine. I bought this computer because it has serious cooling power and therefore can stay quiet during operation and not interfere with the audio in onsite production. It has been very finicky with NDI. I got it to work but then when I came back the video was stuttering so I restarted the computer before doing a live broadcast. The NDI cameras did not show and the NDI Tools Studio Monitor which got the cameras working at first all the sudden says : Your GPU cannot run Video Monitor. OpenGL Shaders not supported. It worked before and now it has a problem. I had to jump to my old HP laptop at the last minute, which although old it has never had a problem with NDI. ... show more
