I've been using the knit picks winder for the last few years and it has been nothing but problems right out of the box. Constantly having to rewind balls because the tension drops or the angle shifts. It finally broke on me not too long ago and was irreparable, happily forcing me to buy a new one. The ball winder in this set is smooth as butter and very obviously more sturdy than the knit picks winder. I am so beyond happy to have finally got a new one. I didn't really need a skein holder. I have one of those wooden one, I think I paid $100 for it. It's pretty sturdy, however one of the spoke thingies did break but I repaired it and it's still usable. That being said, the skein holder in this set is definitely an upgrade. It's better quality and has more features to it. The adjusting handle for skein width is very useful as it's a quick clip and release design. There is a very nifty handle at the top that allows for quick manual skein winding if you need it (very useful if you do not have a niddy noddy). And I like that it comes with a case to store it in. The clamp that secures this skein holder to the table or counter is a bit tricky at first. When mine arrived it seemed almost unadjustable because the screw tension was so tight and so the parts were kind of stuck together, but I tried a little harder to loosen the screw part and from there it was very easy to use. It will take some getting used to. Overall I definitely recommend this set. You are getting great quality equipment for an absolute deal. Whether you are a beginner enthusiast or experienced professional this set is essential for fiber artists working with yarn. I was going to go with the more expensive wooden set that I've seen here on amazon, but am glad to have gone with this one instead. Great quality and stores much easier allowing more room for my yarn stash. Happy winding people, may your yarn never tangle!

If you are considering purchasing this swift and wonder set, I’m here to convince you to do yourself a favor and buy it. I am relatively new to knitting and have been hand-winding my hanks. Honestly, it was probably the most frustrating part of the knitting process. Not only has this set made the winding process faster/easier, it has also motivated me to wind ALL of the hanks I've been accumulating. Because winding yarn is now an enjoyable activity! And I had no idea how organized having cakes instead of hanks/skeins would made my knitting collection! Seeing my stash now, as Marie Kondo would say, “sparks joy”. It’s also incredibly easy to knit with! Also, if the cakes start to unravel while using them (I transport a lot of my projects), I don’t sweat it because I know how easy it will be to re-wind them! I am kind of picky with the quality of my knitting products (I almost exclusively use merino wool, Addi needles, glass stitch markers, etc) and was worried that, due to its price (I paid $38 for the set), these tools would be sub-par and potentially damage my (fairly expensive) yarn. Since I wasn’t sure I even needed a swift/winder (I did), I did not want to invest in a pricey model (I’d rather spend my money on yarn and needles). But these work brilliantly! I have to say, the first time I used the swift the yarn was feeding downward and caught on the metal rungs. However, I quickly learned that the height of the swift can be adjusted (basically everything on the thing can be adjusted), and I lowered the swift closer toward the table so that the yarn would feed straight into the winder, eliminating the unwanted angle. You can see in the last picture that the metal spoke of the swift is below the plane of the table top- this is where I adjusted the height to make it even with the winder. And as far as the winder goes, it is also brilliant! The max capacity is 100g of yarn, and it winds that amount perfectly (so long as the yarn is taught and the tension is consistent). When I use the swift with the winder, the proper amount of tension naturally occurs. But when I was re-winding skeins into the cakes for storage, I had to control the yarn feed with my hand (which was almost enjoyable because it went so fast!). Also, I need to note that the yarn on the winder in my pictures (deep pink) is actually 130g - and the winder handled it like a champ! I didn’t even realize until I saw how big the cake was (compared to the others) and checked the yarn label. Needless to say, I was impressed! So, in short, if you are considering this set I HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying it. It will improve your knitting life for the better. And it’s a great deal. Such a small price to pay for knitting bliss!

So happy I bought this as it makes my yarn collection so much easily to store and keep track of. Definitely appreciate that it includes a Swift, especially for those especially tangly yarns that don’t want to work with you and buying skeins from local suppliers. A few cons I have, but may just be me misusing things. The ball winder works smoothly and does a great job but due to the placement of the wire feeder, you can’t make very big cakes. I was able to jerry rig it a tad and get a little more out of it than normal but it’s not much. The clamp also has trouble staying clamped on certain surfaces with continued use, and I’ve yet to find a surface where I haven’t had it randomly just jump off mid winding. Now the Swift, it’s nice and big, compacts to a very easily transportable size and glides readily. Cons; the gliding almost is too ready, especially when you get into a groove, and there’s no tension tightened to adjust that feature so I tend to have to still help feed the yarn to keep a decent tension on the yarn to fill my cakes out correctly. The other con would be it can feel a little flimsy and rattles some. It’s just metal rods attached to each other so they do bend if it’s too tight and such too. But as a starting set, definitely worth the money.

First of all the stability of this product ia amazing. I didn't know what to expect as I have never owned one before. But the instructions where phenomenal. It's sized perfectly to be packed away neatly when not in use. It can also be used rather quickly without getting caught up in anything.
