Perfect fit for 98 Bayou 300 4x4, you'll need 8mm, 10mm, 14mm sockets and wrench. Install Directions: First disconnect battery under seat, then cut boot on starter wire, disconnect. Remove two larger bolts holding starter, pull old starter, dry fit in new starter. Now you need to go to other side of ATV. Remove HI/LO range selector with two bolts on face and one bolt behind lever (top center). Remove shift peg by loosening bolt underneath, remove heat shield. Remove pull starter assembly, now you need to take off the 14mm bolt in center. Take a flat pry bar (I used a cats paw), you need to wedge in between gaps in ring and brace to small 8mm bolt sticking out from case on right side. While holding it secure, use a breaker bar or long socket wrench to loosen, going to be very difficult but will go. After this is done, just take out the 8mm bolts around perimeter of case (left side only, leave transmission alone). Now you can pull the case straight off, be careful of wiring, carefully prop up case cover to the right. Once the case is pulled off, you need to align the gear on top left with splines on starter you already have in place, once you have the small gear started on starter splines, you can go back to other side and tighten down starter. Get both bolts started then tighten each side a few turns at a time until snug, you can now bolt the wire to the top. Once this side is done, go back to other side and reassemble in reverse order, there's one bolt that goes through the heat shield into engine case, make sure you don't accidentally install this one when closing case or you'll have to take it back out. When everything is done, reconnect battery and you're good to go. ... show more
