  • Great little fan, works as advertised. Super quiet, even on high!
Love this fan! Great for power outages or outdoors- anywhere you don't have power readily available! Airflow is good on low or high and Wow, it really IS whisper quiet!

  • A BRILLIANT PORTABLE BATTERY POWERED FAN THAT REALLY WORKS
Wow... this is a must for me because I need to cool my large old body always! Of course this very versatile fan isn’t an air conditioner nor ‘swamp cooler’ that provides cooled and moisture added air flow. But this is what this fan is: a great portable design with a large diameter for air flow; both wired and battery power options; super quiet constant operation and truly awesome. Years ago I started thinking and then rhetorically asking why there weren’t fans like this available or even existing in this consumer friendly design versus high end expensive rechargeable fans used for many industries. I may have bought the first version of this fan and for sure wrote the first review on Amazon of it. Now several years later I am writing this review with a well improved version of this fan. The true unique and most important selling feature is the ability to use D batteries to power this lightweight yet nice diameter for air flow design. It also is able to fold into a even better smaller size that makes traveling and camping + any place... able to be added to, or by itself provide the so often needed flow of air directly with you. When used with the plug in power cord attached; this fan will provide a constant breeze like air flow that may not make super hot days into something cool or breezy! But it’s the fan and it’s great functions for the other times when it’s not the only device for cooling down that allows this portable fan to be truly appreciated. In the sum; this is the current version of a genius (thank you!) design that is even more brilliant and more powerful than the first!! ... show more

  • It's different from my old one, in both good and bad ways. Overall a great little fan.
This is actually my 3rd O2Cool fan, I like them, a LOT, but they keep seeming to grow feet and walk off every few hunting seasons. More specifically in a rush to get back to civilization before the ultra nasty weather sets in, somebody forgets to haul the battery fan out of the rented bunk house and it is never there when we get back next year... These fans have been around for quite some time now, this is the first I have found them on Amazon. Over the years a couple of things have changed, and this one has an annoying change, but let's start with the good shall we? The good. I have never had one of these die on me aside from batteries running out, not the fans fault per se. Durability with my use is good. I use this to shove heated air from a Mr. Heater Portable buddy around the bunk house, or tent to allow the heat to circulate instead of simply rise straight up and throgh the ceiling. It makes a massive difference in comfort anywhere away from the heater. And no, do NOT place this too close to the front of the heater! Operation is simple and smooth. I use the Amazon basics batteries for this, I need to upgrade to rechargeable D cells but have been too cheap to do so as of yet.... Battery life is good, can't really say how long because I don't run it 24x7, but on our camping trips we average 6 hours run time a night for weekend trips (2 nights) and a set of batteries has been known to last a full camping season. Compared to the earlier model with the swing over handle, and more rigid glossy plastic housing, this newer model seems more ruggedly built, fewer moving plastic parts to fail, a smoother switch, overall better fit and finish. Like I said the earlier model had a swing over handle that had to be more expensive to manufacture vs. the extended lip landle on the top of this thing, but the newer handle design I would think would be far less likely to be a failure point. Keep it simple. The one place where they made a change that left me scratching my head and I do not feel is an improvement is the closures for the battery compartment. Previously they were slide latches that you simply slide over with your fingers, the new design requires some sort of straight edge tool like a screwdriver, a coin, or a swiss army knife to open up, all of which I have in camp, it's just an extra step, and additional engineering that made me wonder why they bothered changing it. It makes the battery compartment harder to get into. Earlier models you could buy an additional AC transformer to run the fan off of wall power. Mind you, when I camp, if I have 110V power available, I am going to use an electric heater with a built in fan and don't need this, BUT I can see for RV users and whatnot, they might want this. The good thing is this newer version included the transformer, and unfortunately no way to stow it. Perhaps in future iterations they might consider designing in on board storage for the transformer to reduce the odds of it getting lost between uses. Overall I think it's a great little fan, 2 speeds, more than enough power to move air through a 10x12 family tent or 10x16 bunkhouse / hunting shack. If you need very portable, energy efficient, reliable, and effective air moving for a small space, this would be a highly recommended fan, just accept that it has foibles. ... show more

  • Update after using for four years
Original post: We used this on a three-night camp trip into southern Iowa in August. It made all the difference for getting a good night's sleep. It created enough of a breeze on the low setting to give relief without blowing too hard. On the low setting there wasn't quite enough white noise to cover campground sounds or animals treading about but the high setting did a good job of covering noise. The batteries gave enough weight in the base for it to remain upright all night. We like that it folds up to a very portable size and doesn't take up much room among the camp gear. Update one year and three months after purchase: We returned the original purchase as it was defective and got a replacement without any issues. Very reliable fan. Ended up using it in the bedroom for white noise on the low setting. Folded up, it propped easily into the window. The high setting brought in enough evening air to cool the room for night sleeping and the low setting is perfect white noise. It has run for eight hours a night for 15 months. Other fans we've had tended to develop vibration noises after several months, very annoying and not conducive to falling asleep. Not this one. It sounds and performs the same as the day it came out of the box. The only caveat I have to add is that the covering on the cord separated near the fan body's plug-in point, exposing the little wires within AC adapter cord. It came as a result of the cord bending downward at the connector every night to plug into an outlet below the window. It's beyond repair and needs replacement. We tried a couple of power adapter cords from several electronic devices we have but none worked. I see that a replacement AC adapter cord is available from the manufacturer for $12, about half the price of the unit itself. Based on the performance of the fan, we figure it's worth it. The old cord will go to electronic recyclers. As a precaution, so the same thing doesn't happen again on the new cord, we'll probably wrap some electrician's tape around the first couple of inches at the connection to support and ease the bend in the cord. Overall, it's been a good little fan and worth the purchase. UPDATE FOUR YEARS AFTER PURCHASE: still going! Still using it every single night for white noise. Sometimes it makes a little squealing noise for a couple of seconds but giving it a quick smack makes it stop. ... show more

  • Great fan when you have no electricity
Let's talk about hurricanes. Last year, Irma knocked out my electricity for 6 days. It was September in sweltering Florida. No ice. No electricity. No cool air. I had bought an O2Cool fan YEARS ago (it was really cheap then $7,99) for camping. I dragged it down out of the closet and it saved my life! Seriously, saved my life. O2Cool is a great brand and that old fan works SO good. It kept me alive and cool till my electricity came back on. It takes 8 D batteries, so make sure you are stocked up. Hurricane season just started again. I bought this updated O2Cool fan (it's a little different than my old one - lighter weight, but otherwise pretty-much the same. I haven't used it yet because I haven't needed to. But, I tested it out and it works great. I put it back in the box and will hopefully never have to use it. This one came with an A/C cord (my old one didn't), so that's good for when I do have electricity. The fan would be great for camping or a picnic. It's super lightweight and is slim and would travel well. It has 2 speeds - low and high. This is a great little fan. The price $26 was a little high, I thought, but I don't care. When you are sweating to death in Florida with no electricity, the fan is worth it's weight in gold! All good. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Light weight, moves a little air. Packable
Mine came with a cord, so I don't know how well it holds up on batteries, but it wasn't the sturdiest of cords, so I fully expected to eventually migrate to batteries before I --- -tripped over it on the floor and broke it beyond repair (or, more optimistically, "became usable parts"). That said, it has a pretty good design in its capacity to fold. Will tip if you don't have the weight of batteries in the base. Might be good for travel as it is light, just protect it when you pack it. It is quiet, although the amount of air moved seems pretty proportional to the lack of noise. I've since bought two Vorados, and woweee, noisy, but also moving some serious air. This fan would be more ideal for a hotel room or a 10x10 bedroom. Enough noise for white noise, probably, but you won't mistake it for a jet taking off. The fan took a little bit of abuse before its death knell - fell several times and got squished a few different directions. Two or three weeks of use before my leg got tangled when I was trying to squeeze in behind my fridge and squarely landed a size nine foot on it, which it did not like. Was a little dismayed to see fine gauge electric wire handling the juice. I'd expected something a bit heavier, but as noted above, the wire on the AC plug was super fine, too, so expected? For the price, I suppose that's about right. I see similar fans going for $30+ at other sites for other brands. If I'd paid that much and it broke that easily, I'd be miffed, but it was a quick fix for a temporary situation and hopefully I can reuse some of the parts in other projects, so it won't be a total loss. If I were the manufacturer, I'd probably complement my product line by making a higher output, more industrial version of this fan. The overall design is pretty smart, using deep pitch on the blades makes a big difference, and there's potential to make it more of a "forever fan" with just a few mods. For this price (<$20), you're probably getting a pretty good deal. ... show more

  • Great using batteries or electricity
Excellent purchase, can plug it into the wall outlet but if we have a power failure it can also run on batteries. Hot summer brings storms which cause power outages despite the heat. This fan has been wonderful.
