She wore this to feel comfortable in the water and 3 months later graduated to swimming laps wearing the belt. Gave her buoyancy while allowing her to exercise. The float pad has good buoyancy for a 160 lb person. It works well enough for me to perform my deep-water PT exercises and for my aqua aerobics classes. It could be improved by a wider strap, because this one (about 1.25" to 1.5" wide) often turns over or slips off the ends of the floatation pad. That doesn't make you sink or anything, just requires a quick adjustment, a bit annoying. Friend's float belt just like this one has lasted 6 years just fine, so it's durable. ... show more

too early to comment on durability. it's small cross-section makes it perfect for pool aerobics where I need the belt to float up under my arms.
