  • Great card for local LLMs on a budget, watch for hardware constraints
Bought this card for local LLM usage and I'm absolutely impressed with how well it works. nvidia drivers are a bit of a pain under Linux but it's solid once configured. There are 3 caveats that you need to keep in mind if you plan to use this for LLMs in 2026 or later. This may introduce hidden costs if your hardware is not Titan RTX ready, so read before you buy. 1. Just use ollama with this card. Newer models are not getting vllm releases that support the 64k streaming memory limit of this hardware with quantization enabled, meaning you're stuck on models from 2025 or later OR you sacrifice parameter count since you can't quantize. The hardware constraints will fight you uphill. 2. These cards have beefy power requirements. You need 280w for each card. Granted, I can't get it to draw more than half of that under heavy LLM usage. If using enterprise hardware, make sure you have the proprietary crap you need for this to have sufficient power or be prepared to upgrade your PSU. 3. Not all motherboards with pcie slots are created equal. Your motherboard needs to be from 2020 and support these two settings or you're gonna have a bad time - chassis space and power support aren't the only gotchas. * pcie mapping above 4gb * reBAR (PCs) or mmio aperture window size (servers) - you'll have to search for your specific hardware on this If you are on server hardware pre-2020 that has dedicated pcie lanes per processor, you can probably get around this by isolating each Titan RTX to lanes controlled by separate CPUs. Note that this still halfs your capacity - a chassis with the hardware support for 4 GPUs would still only be able to use 2. ... show more
